DROID Bionic Extended Battery is 50% Through Verizon, Maybe This Weekend Only

Bought a new DROID Bionic over the last few days and need more juice to get you through the day? Might want to head over to Verizon’s online shop today, as they appear to be slashing the price of extended batteries in half this weekend (possibly til 9/30 though).  When you view the battery page, it will show as $49.99, but once you add it to your cart, you will see that you can purchase it for $24.99 as I have showed in the picture above.  Steal.

Buy.

Cheers @0mie and jarrod!

My new droid bionic battery lasted only 6 hours today with minimal use!!!!!!!

I get a full day out of the Bionic with an extended battery….My day yesterday for an example…Woke up and played 18 holes and used SkyDroid GPS, watched about 7 movies for 10 minutes each to see quality of conversion, a lot of facebook, a lot of internet and mail, NFL Sunday…nuff said, and ended off with Third Blade and Final Fantasy VII for about an hour each…The extended battery does make the phone bulkier but it is a good trade off…First time i’ve gone a full day with a smartphone since the OG was fresh out of box…

I just talked to a guy at Costco this morning, and he said that they (Verizon) are putting a stop on all Bionic shipments because of a battery glitch they found.  I can’t seem to find any verification on this yet..

All these delays and they couldn’t find this glitch until they started shipping?  WTF?  I’ve waited for this phone forever, and with all the stuff I’ve read, I’m probably gonna pass.  I have the original droid now, and with light use, I can easily get 1-2 days of battery life with it.  That’s much less than I’d like too.  I wish it could last a week.  Yeah, that’s not reality now, for these devices, but I wish it was.  My mp3 player has a 30 hour battery life.  30 hours of playing music that is.  Weeks between charges with light to moderate use.  Yeah, I know it’s a totally different device, but…

    • http://www.facebook.com/mtneumann Matt Neumann

I agree that smartphone battery technology is horrible, there is an article about it on gizmodo.  However there is no glitch.  Im in sales, think, how would you move someone to a charge or a d3 if you ran out of bionics?
People need to stop listening to reps, they are glorified cashiers.  I think one of the blogs would have hopped on that one considering theyve had it for a week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mtneumann Matt Neumann

It is the same as everything else.  Not as bad as the thunderbolt perhaps not as good or the same as the charge.  What do you expect when you drop a 6 cylinder in your 4 cylinder jalopee?  Its a great phone, and who knows what a 1.5 g will do the the battery hungry vigor, if you can wait for the nexus do it, but i love my bionic.

I bought the Bionic Friday.  A comment about battery life.  The battery
is at 50% after 5 hours of mostly idle time, with a max lifespan of
about 9 hours before requiring a charge.  If you have Bluetooth or WiFi
turned on the total life span is about 3.5 hours.  It is just awful. My
wife has the Droid Charge and that thing can sit for 36 hours straight
without having to charge (even with 4G).  My old Storm could go the same
with WiFi and Bluetooth turned on.If something doesn’t change quick,
the Bionic going back to Verizon and I will be getting the Charge, or
    waiting for Samsung’s next model.

just found it for 24.99 on vzw.com too…so it seems to be still active..

  • Bionicman

well i’ve recharged my battery about 4 times since i got the Bionic and now battery seems to be doing a bit better with 4G on. I’m about 3 hours since unplugging the charger and i still got about %92 percent charge after listening to music (local mp3’s) for 40 minutes and having push email (gmail and touchdown) enabled. my DInc would be about %80 at this point. i’m going to try leaving bluetooth off unless i have to talk since the battery manager says its sucking up quite a bit of power. i’ll post my results later.

  • http://profiles.google.com/austinbrister Austin Brister

Wonder if they’ll have an inductive cover for the extended battery…

  • Zo

The discount does not seem to apply anymore, as of 6:30 AM EST… I see a 25% down but I have it with my corporate discount, anyway.

  • Pnicuh

That’s pretty kool, just bought mine. That’s a steal.

    taking a phone vacation.

I’m a hardcore phone user. Constantly playing plants vs. zombies and checking my facebook and such. I unlock my phone at least one every minute or two. I send emails, texts, use the internet, watch videos, take pix/vids, and just play with my live wallpaper basically 24/7. My brightness is up to 100%. I’m the definition of someone who over-uses their phone. I get about 6 hours on the regular batter and a little over 9 on the extended battery. Thats with 4G and wifi on at all times. I suspect anyone should get at least this much seeing as how I never stop using my phone and managed to achieve this much. I’m more than satisfied.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cameron-Carey/567445212 Cameron Carey

For people that run out of battery life all the time, get an extra charger for work and buy the car dock/charger.

    • Granted

Yeah actually, with all smart phones can, and have to do these days,i still find it hilarious people composition about battery life. All these phones are pretty much all going to have the same battery life, and there are options to extend that as well. It’s ridiculous to bitch about it. If you’re upset because you can’t use your phone 24/7, without having to charge it…. will I think battery life is actually the least of your worries.

Nice. Just picked up an extended for my thunderbolt for 25.

  • Tony Allen

Not showing up for me.. still $49.99. I am happy with my battery life on 3G though 15-20 hours with moderate use. Had 4G for the first time today west of Cincy when I was having dinner. great stuff. Battery drain for sure though.. it happens. Won’t have it at my house for a long while, so it’s not a bother. Pulled some crazy awesome speed tests though :)

  • me

Bought the extended battery and haven’t used it yet. I’ve been able to pull 8-10 hours on the stock battery. Now to figure out how to root it :)

Went to my local Verizon store yesterday and after talking to one of the reps he evcen admitted that the battery life is suspect at times he wasn’t too happy about the battery life either.

After spending about an hour with the device I came away not thinking to much about it.  It’s just ok, I held up the Samsung Charge next to the Bionic and the screen was was like WOW the Charge really made the Bionic look dull.

Don’t get me wrong the Bionic was very smooth ,but when I compared the download speed to the Charge it was not that much faster, a hair of a tenth of a second.  The build quality was nice and i liked the feel.  I see what Kellex was talking about in ref. to the edges capturing lint.

Nice device but niothing to say WOW!!  IMHO I will wait for the Nexus Prime!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/mtneumann Matt Neumann

It always helps to know what youre running to see where your perspective is from.  Has no one mentioned the fact that you will most likely need dual core to run ics well?  Sure, buy a charge, a better screen over better technology, sounds like someone who buys a car for the color it comes in.

  • Andrew

So on LTE in the two times I’ve had it running on battery it has lasted under 6 hours both times. I see people getting battery lives twice this amount. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Did I get a defective battery? I ordered the extended, and it should be in Wednesday. I absolutely love the speed of the dual core and LTE, but I’m very disappointed with the battery life. Anyone got any tips?

    • Anonymous

Same here about the battery life, and I tweaked it till it can’t be tweaked anymore, I don’t know how these people are getting 15, 31, 2 days, that’s just talk, because Standby is no where near 15.

      • Dylan Hageman

There might be some defective units out there hahahah, I’m literally only getting 13 hours on just standby with barely even using it. It’s killing me.

        • Anonymous

I don’t know about defective, but the overall major compliant is the Battery life, so I don’t think it has anything to do with defective units out there, but more so once again, another device that doesn’t live up to all the hype; and that is why they’re practically giving these batteries away. I brought a Charger for my Bionic on the same day as the Bionic got it for $22 and it came with an extra standard battery which can’t even make 6hours of standby.

I got the extended the same day, it may standby for half a day but as soon as you start talking, streaming music, or Netflix you may get through a movie but you gotta charge it again or in my case switch out one of the standard batteries, I’ve never switched batteries so much with any of my Droids until Bionic.

So No, don’t believe its a defective unit, just one of the areas that Moto need to continue working on. And I’m still waiting for my Damn XOOM upgrade, the month is halfway over and still no email.

This deal alone makes me want to buy a Bionic!!! Darn you, Nexus Prime!!!!!!!!!

    • Anonymous

If the Nexus Prime is really gonna be 4.65 screen size, that’s just to damn big – Get the Bionic, perfect form factor

  • Kebova1

This also works for the thunderbolt extended battery making it $25 with free Shipping…. I’m in for one!

  • Dritnul

With some minimal use my bionic has been unplugged for 31.5 hours and still has 50% charge left. I got the extended battery in store for 25$ on launch day, but haven’t needed it so far.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Monkdn Ray Baker

Had a similar experience… I beat the air attack demo, and did about an hour of gun bro, surfed the web a little but not a ton.  And I took a pic of me pluggin it in after it hit the 2 day mark…

My suggestion to any bad batter-lifers, turn it off high performance, and turn the night mode on (or at least change the hours to when you do sleep – says phone calls still works just doesn’t push data except for intervals you choose… mine is 30 mins

    • Dan

how the f are you getting that much battery? what settings are you using? ive got mine on what i think is a pretty conservative setup and i use some wi fi (like an hour) and some 3G, no 4G at all and the max i can get is like 15 hours

      • Dritnul

It was kept on 3G since I have shady 4G coverage at my place (it switches on and off dropping my data, but is fine all over town) I have the built in task manager set to autokill everything, just using nighttime saver otherwise. default screen brightness. facebook to never sync. I only have 3 widgets, power manager, quick contacts, and data monitor.

would be interesting to see what it gets with background data off. I used to get 2-3 days regularly out of my stock OGD battery.

        Im 35 hours and 40% now (46% standby 43% idle 8% calls 3% display 3% system)

The half off discount also applies to the standard battery. Can pick on up for $20

You can also pick up for half price the Battery Charging dock that comes with an extra standard Battery. I picked up all of these on Thursday for a steal.

      • http://www.elliottblufer.com Elliott Blufer

How? Couldn’t get that to work, and I want the standard dock. $40 on Amazon instead of $50 at VZW, at least.

  • Anonymous

I got 29 hours off the extended battery, it was that price Thursday, with heavy usage and a movie.

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

    Just bought it. Awesome deal!

  • Princesation

Anyone know if the atrix laptop dock work forty the bionic? And also when I restart my bionic, some of the apps I put on the sd are gone? Help?

    • fartbubbler

the atrix dock will not work with the bionic.  thanks, Motorola.

      • Princesation

That sucks. That proves how money hungry companies can get

  • fartbubbler

I got 15 hours off my regular stock battery yesterday.  Almost 4.5 hours of screen/ display time on.  (I’m not in a 4G area- yet, so this is all just 3G), but still darned satisfied with battery life. I don’t need the extended battery, but for $25 I gotta pick one up!

    • Dylan Hageman

Might as well pick up two and sell the other one on eBay!

Thats bad, Mine is no where near that bad. I rooted and removed mostly all the built in stuff though. The DLNA, IM and Social Apps where continually discovering network shares and i removed them and battery go a whole lot better. Wifi is definately a drainer though and not sure why.

      • http://www.facebook.com/TJHRULZ tjhrulz

custom roms should hopefully fix that

        • Dylan Hageman

When they crack the boot loader…

    • Anonymous

That sounds bad.  I got the Bionic the same day you did.  Let’s put it this way.  I had the Tbolt and I could charge it all night.  It’d already be down to 95% as soon as I unplug.  I’d listen to music on the way to work (a 20 minute drive) and it’d be down to 65-70%,  just checking email, google+, foursquare, twitter and I’d be down to 40%.  This is less than 2 hours after unplugging.  I don’t think that anything could be worse than the Tbolt.  I’ve yet to plug my Bionic in to charge since 6am.  It is now 13.5 hours later and I am at 15%.  I’ve been using it as much as I would my Tbolt… I just ordered the extended battery.  Let’s see what happens with that bad boy.  Luckily I bought the holster/case combo that accommodates the extended battery.

      • Anonymous

How about sharing what holster/case combo does fit the extended battery.  I bought one, as well as an Otterbox defender, which doesn’t fit the extended battery.  I am curious to know what else is out there…

        • LegalAmerican

I have the slider case for mine.  It has a hard plastic shell on the phone, and then that slides into a holster for your belt.  29.99 at Verizon store

      • Justindnesmith

Where did you get the case that fits the extended battery size?

        • c3

          Mine came with it.

      • c3

With my old HTC Incredible I used to rotate 3 batteries daily, so when I switched to the Bionic I purchased two extended batteries and an external charger.  That turned out to be overkill; I *easily* get 18+ hours on a single extended battery each day.  I rotate them once a month just to keep them in use.

        I love this phone.

    • Anonymous

I clocked just over 6 hours with a full charge, nonstop video play with bluetooth/3g on in the background. So I find it hard to believe you get 9 hours idle. The battery isn’t the problem with this thing, it’s the screen.

    • Anonymous

You’ve got a bad unit or battery.

    • http://www.facebook.com/michaeljmcgrath Michael McGrath

you need to break it in.

battery life sucked on my droid x and thunderbolt until i had a few charging cycles.

put it in your cart, the sale price doesn’t show up til then

  • TheRedBull

The big question is…are there holsters available to fit this bigger battery cover? That’s the only thing that is holding me back at the moment…

    • TheRedBull

Just saw the post from Jarrod. Thanks bud!

  • Jarrod

ALSO! She said that the sell %50 price is for any 4g Phones Extended Battery not just Bionic.

  • Jarrod

I picked one up and it doesnt add much. Also the extended battery fits in the Extra battery charging dock perfectly. It took a while to convince the Lady at Big Red that it was 24.99 but it finally rang up correctly and i was like see i told you…. lol The case that came in the bundle is made for the extended battery and also the media docks have space for the extra battery room.

  • http://twitter.com/ChrisCorp ChristopherCorpening

With this kind of deal I am wondering if I should upgrade my OG to the Bionic or wait out for Nexus Prime goodness?

  • BIONICMAN

I’m about % 70 percent battery left and a I’m about 9 hours since unplugging from charger. found out wifi ydrains the battery less than 4g.

    • Anonymous

Indeed it does.  Which is a major bug that needs to be addressed.

      • Madcow06

He said less than 4G, did you think he posted wifi drains more than 4G?

      • Madcow06

He said less than 4G, did you think he posted wifi drains more than 4G?

        • Jeffwoolf95

that must be the case. I have had mine off the charger for just over 18 hours and still have 50% battery.with wifi on i get less than 8 hours.

          • Bionicman

if i leave 4g on it drains faster than using wifi only. keep in mind i disable mobile data through the battery settings. i only do this when im home btw

      • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

Yeah, less than 4G is correct. Wifi is the best thing to be connected to.

      • Dylan Hageman

I’ve been getting 32Mbps in my area which is 12 Mbps faster than my home network haha. But seriously, they need to fix the wifi from draining so much battery.

  • John Doran

Looks like it still rings up as $37.50 if you are on a corporate account with a 25% discount, FYI. Just sign yourself out and try reloading to get the $24.99 price.

    • Edi

Thanks for the tip, it worked perfectly.

Quadrant is the pos and you’re a dipstick.  If you used the Bionic for any length of time you’d know how fast it is.

      • http://twitter.com/wingdo Doug

Nothing like using a meaningless benchmark test to determine if the phone is good or bad.  I am currently on a TB, and DasBAMF (ROM) has a ‘uberquadreant’ setting which does NOTHING for the actual speed of the phone, but I can pull Quadrant scores of 3750 with ease.  Using your logic, the TB is 1000x better in every way over the GS2.

        • DJ

Yeah, Only not so much XD   Did you actually think before you posted that or are you talking out of your as*… Just out of curiosity?

  • Sgtblack

Just picked one up minutes ago Its a really good deal and the extended battery does not add that much thickness only sticks out a tiny bit from the bulge but its designed as well as the stock battery cover.

  • Raj

I started straight out with the extended battery and the battery runs down pretty quick.. How are people doing with the regular battery?

    • Denise

I just returned the extended battery for a refund today, (which I bought when I picked up the Bionic on rollout day for regular price…no one at Big Red told me about a price break!).  The extra bulk and weight it added was not worth the minimal time extension, in my opinion.  I was 2 days on the extended and since last night on the regular, and I don’t notice a difference in how fast it drains.
