Leaked Verizon Roadmap Reveals Potential Launch Dates for Stratosphere, Vigor, Bionic and More

The folks over at IGN may have just landed the ultimate Verizon roadmap leak for the next couple of months.  We’re not even sure where to begin with so many exciting things to point out including potential release dates, but we’ll do our best to contain ourselves and make this simple.  The big things of note are the confirmation of the Samsung Stratosphere that we’ve been talking a ton about lately, the HTC Vigor replacing the Thunderbolt, and a new LG Revolution 2 that we semi-confirmed the other day.

So here we go…

  • DROID Bionic:  (9/8 launch) – You already know everything about this device, don’t you?
  • Samsung Stratosphere:  (9/8 launch) – 4G LTE device running Android 2.3
  • HTC Vigor:  (10/6 launch) – Will replace the HTC Thunderbolt
  • LG Revolution 2:  (10/20 launch) – Will replace the original Revolution
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab P8 (November launch) – Could be the 8.9″ Galaxy Tab?
  • Samsung Illusion:  (9/29 launch) – 3G smartphone running Android 2.3
  • Samsung Plato:  (January launch) – whatever it is, it was pushed to 2012
  • HTC Bliss:  (9/29 launch) – Lower end Android 2.3 device; the chick phone?
  • Motorola XOOM 4G LTE:  (9/8 launch) – Assuming this is the date that the 4G LTE upgrade starts. Also when the 4G LTE version will be in stores.

Still no word on whether or not the Stratosphere is the Galaxy S2, but it could be battling it out directly with the Bionic should they both meet that 9/8 launch date.  Folks will have to wait for the HTC Vigor which will make its debut the following month to replace the Tbolt as one of the most anticipated devices we have reported on in a while.  And we could see some additional Android players on all sorts of levels.

So August may indeed be as boring as we predicted, but this fall is looking to be spectacular.

Cheers Derek!

I don’t believe any of these leaked documents.  We’ve seen them in the past, and they have been pretty much false hopes.  I can’t see Verizon releasing the Bionic and a Samsung product on the same day.  If they do, the Bionic is in BIG trouble.  I think people will opt for the Samsung just out of spite.  Or they may decide they have waited this long, what is another month and go for the Vigor or the iPhone 5..

    • Anonymous

if it is the samsung slider which was rumored to not be dual core than some will get the bionic just because it is dual core.

      • Anonymous

Can’t imagine Samsung putting out another single core unit.  What would make it any better than the Droid Charge?  Unless Verizon thinks people didn’t like the Charge because it did not have a sliding keyboard.  Personally, since Samsung used the word Stratosphere in their June Galaxy S2 promotions, I think it will be the GS2. But some of my Bionic predictions were wrong so who knows. :-)

        • Anonymous

Well if it is the slider then it would give those who want a keyboard a 4g option. Just saying it doesnt make sense to release two dual core lte on the same day but who knows maybe they will do I would love that but just doesnt seem like that will happen

  • Anonymous

I wonder what the revolution 2 specs will be? I would hope they make it like the g2x or other high end lg smartphone. Should be an interesting few months. Also that is a really short lifespan for the revolution also.

  • Eric815

    Verizon Adamant = iPhone5!!!

Does anyone know anything about a Verizon branded phone called Adamant??

My hunch is this is a place holder for iPhone5.

Think about it… Verizon probably is sworn not to publish iphone release. But they probably need a place holder so Adamant could be a code name for it. Apple starts with A. Adamant starts with A.

So Sept 29th seems like the release date. Timed after the Bionic starts to lose steam.

    • Anonymous

look over at what it says it is replacing the salute. It isnt the iphone 5.

  • Niemeyer2010

I would like some leaked pictures/info on the HTC Vigor! :D

  • Martelus

Played with a coworkers HTC sensation today, cool phone.  I’d like to see if that was the Verizon HTC Vigor.  Of course I’d also like to see if the HTC Vigor is this 720P 1.5ghz dual core ICS phone we’re hearing about.  Either way, Moto really messed this one up.  Releasing a phone 6 mos. late really threw it on the bottom of the list pretty quick.  Should have launched with the Thunderbolt, Rev and Charge and now it’s launching with their upgrades?  Lollerola, sell those stocks.

    • Anonymous

Considering the fact that the TBolt, Revolution and Charge all sucked, perhaps Motorola made the right choice instead of launching a failed device that needs to be replaced so quickly.

      • Tarsis Brito

lol could not agree more these stupid haters are just considering specs but not how the phone will function

  • J Dub

Seriously? No phones in August? You suck VZW. Seriously. How many months has it been since you launched a phone worthy of upgrading from an OG? More than I care to count. I’m sure when the GS2 does launch it’ll will be fudged up.

    • Anonymous

      The Droid 3 is nice.

  • Dean2359

I would say that it’s a strong possiblity that the Stratosphere is a slider only because the bionic is scheduled for release the same day. I dont think the strat is the Gal S2 because there would be too much competition between similar technology and features.

  • takaides

As I read this on my Xoom 3G, I notice on the far right column in the Xoom row, “3G to 4G upgrade process – could be one week earlier.” So… LTE update could come out as early as 9/2?

  • DBK

Damn, that’s a lot of devices. It’s sad to see that they are planning to retire/replace the Cosmos Touch. It is a pretty nice feature phone (my dad and uncle have one).

    • Anonymous

It is like they are releasing a bunch of phones in a couple months and then nothing for a few months. I mean the last LTE phone was launched what a few months ago?

      • DBK

It’s like they are getting out all their dual cores as quickly as possible so they can concentrate on their quad cores…..  -__-

        • DBK

          I agree with you, chris125, btw.  :)

        • Anonymous

they will get all these phones and then wait 6 months til others are releasing quad cores then continue with dual cores lol

          • DBK

            lol Most likely.  :)

          • Anonymous

Well I’m not complaining I just want a dual core lte I can only imagine the battery life of a quad core lte lol

          • DBK

I just want dual core, 512MB or 1GB RAM (I really don’t care),  ICS, and a decent rear facing camera. Is that so much to ask for?

          • DBK

so the curve will be 4g? Nice for a blackberry. And that just shows how much of a mess the thunderbolt turned out to be since it is being replaced so soon. Also it doesnt seem like the vigor will be lte since all the lte phones say 4g

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

      Yeea the thunderbolt was dookie

    • Eric Williams

I don’t know why they are getting rid of the Thunderbolt so soon. It has to be making VZW tons of $$$$ in extended batteries and additional charger sales. LOL

      • Anonymous

Because it is costing them so much in returns and replacements lol. I do agree they are probably making a killing on extra batteries and chargers.

    • The Observer

It’s replacing the Tbolt, which is 4G, so it only makes sense that the Vigor is going to be a 4G phone.

I just paid $ 23.87 for an iPod 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $ 38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 657 which only cost me $ 62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://to.ly/aS0Q

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OOO7GVPXWATBC75FGMUTLHJJME SjB

little skeptical of waiting yet ANOTHER month to get the Vigor because of the Bionic delays, but it’s gonna be so much better than the Bionic that I can’t justify getting it and then having something so much better come out a month later.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

You don’t even have confirmed specs

    • Anonymous

It will also be an htc which we can see how that turns out for battery life.

Is it me or is this carrier rebranding and dumb new phone names annoying?  Android manufacturers keep issuing incremental updated phones and rebranding them –  Apple atleast doesn’t have that issue.  WTF is an HTC Vigor?  I wish the Thunderbolt was named an Incredible 4G, a phone that has (or had) a good following and was highly successful.  Maybe the Vigor will be a slider, or could be a rebranded Sensation, or what the Thunderbolt should have been.  Who the hell knows, but maybe android phones would have more recognition if they could get past one or two models. My 2 cents!

    • Anonymous

Apple does the same thing they only make small increases in each version and who cares what a phone is named?

    wow nice job IGN!!!!

  • EC8CH

Wow says right on there Vigor is replacing Thunderbolt.

    That was a short lifespan.

    • palomosan

Yep, I noticed that too, regardless of what paper says, I was going to…replace my Tbolt with the Vigor.

      • EC8CH

        HA!

    • Pnicuh

      lol indeed it is

  • Anonymous

It may be that I have’t been paying attention but it was my understanding the the Bionic and the Targa were 2 different devices….but if my eyes are reading properly it says there “original name Targa” under the bionic….right?

    • Eric Williams

The Bionic was to be release a while ago. It kept going back to the drawing board. At some point Moto decided to rebranded the up and coming Terga as the Bionic.

      • Anonymous

is that what happened? like a merged project? hopefully that quad core with a 13 MP camera targa we saw will launch eventually……though if the trend continues we can pretty much change all those 2011 dates to 2012

        • Eric Williams

I think Motorola Mobility, through a lot of setback, has lost their direction and drive.

  • Itstimemoto

Will the HTC Vigor be a 4g or 3g?

    • Eric Williams

With the specs that have been flying around I would say 4G. If you put 3G in it that would be like a ferrari with a 55 MPH speed governor installed.

      • Itstimemoto

Oh so the HTC Vigor will be the the same as the thunderbolt just better specs? Thanks

  • Knightcrusader

I have a feeling the Stratosphere is the slider we’ve been seeing, at least I hope it is cause that is what I am waiting to get. Wanting it aside, would VZW really push out the Bionic and SGII together on the same day? It makes more sense they have the powerhouse Bionic launching with a slower slider instead.

Of course, when has VZW made sense…

      • J Dub

I see what you did there.

  • Jikhead

This is all bad news for Motorola.  The price they will pay for the countless delays.  Now I will look into the Stratosphere and the Vigor as viable options instead.

  • Johnjr68

Take a look at the Bionic.  What does “Upgraded to a level one launch mean?  any ideas out there?

    • Eric Williams

I would assume it means that it’s the highest level and soon we will see tons of Bionic print and electronic ads like we did for other flagship devices. Based on specs I would call the Vigor a flagship more than the Bionic. But I guess it comes down to $$$ paid to get that level of displays

      • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

We don’t even have confirmed specs of the vigor

      • Anonymous

What specs have you seen for the Vigor?  Please post for all to see.

  • me

So do we officially know that the vigor is not a tab

    • NOT A TABLET

It runs Android 2.3.4 as of now so it definitely not a tablet.

      • Anonymous

Isn’t the HTC Flyer based on 2.3.X?

        • http://twitter.com/NemaCystX NemaCystX

Correct, which is what I thought it might be if its not a smartphone, but it clearly says its replacing the ThunderBolt so its most likely not a tablet.

Android 2.3 is running on the HTC Flyer / EVO View along with Sense 3.0

  • http://twitter.com/Scotty_Braun Scotty Braun

Damn, I really wish that Vigor was coming out 9/8 as well.. Its so hard to keep holding off for new phones, Ive been waiting so long as it is.  I don’t know if Ill make it to October once the Bionic and samsung come out, but I really want an HTC phone this time around. Well, worst case scenario, Ill have 2 upgrades to use, and Ill use them both if I have to!

HTC Vigor ten days before my B-Day would be nice gift to myself thanks to both my parents upgrades I’ll use my last NE2 to get DROID BIONIC, Then use my pops to get the HTC Vigor, then hope verizon gets Nexus 3 and use moms upgrade. That is if I like any of the phones. Nexus 3 I’ll hold out on till the words “Verizon WILL NOT recive the Nexus 3″ come from Google’s mouth. Then I’m in the same boat that I started in

oh man I am so happy to see the release date of HTC Vigor, I just wish we had more info on it, like screen size n pics of it….Thanks Kellex

I have to agree, and I hope thats the case since the Function should be coming out this month to fill the void.  It will be a great start for Q3, especially for Samsung and the way they talked about LTE during there earnings call, there “preparing to expand the Galaxy SII lineup with techology such as Long Term Evolution and HSPA+”

        • Destroythanet

Gonna be hard to knock Apple off their high horse. I hear the Verizon’s version of the old iPhone 4 outsells all their LTE phones combined by a landslide.

It’s more about recent advances in technology (especially processors) that are driving new phone releases. In fact, there would be even less time in between releases if manufacturers didn’t have to sell the old cpus before releasing the new ones.

    BOTTOM LINE:

    GSII = Stratosphere = REJOICE
    GSII = Plato = REBELL

    • http://www.techefficacy.com JD

Stratosphere was previously know as Aegis …. Aegis was rumored to be a Netbook.

Samsung making netbooks…. I doubt it. More likely a phone with a full qwerty keyboard.

      • RogerDroid

There is the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook…

but I’m [REALLY!!!] hoping for a Galaxy S2, as I had my OG stolen and have been holding out for a month now waiting for a worthy replacement.

it clearly says android 2.3 smartphone

GSII fans are in for a big letdown I think, you’re looking at it on that list…as the Samsung Illusion (similar vein as Fascinate), meaning it won’t be LTE.

The Plato I bet is an ICS phone…
No way VZ launches the GSII on the same day as the Bionic, the Stratosphere is out

      • Anonymous

So you’re betting that the Stratosphere will be the keyboard phone that was leaked a couple weeks ago, that the GSII won’t launch until the very end of September and that they’ll be letting at least Sprint get ahead of them with 3.5G on the GSII. I just don’t see why they would wait so long to release the GSII if 4G wasn’t holding it up.

And people have already commented on how Stratosphere would make sense for the GSII from all the quotes from Sammy. An Illusion/Fascinate similarity is at least as much of a stretch.

        • Anonymous

“” I just don’t see why they would wait so long to release the GSII if 4G wasn’t holding it up.””

Are you serious? How about beyond a silly signup page, Samsung has made NO official announcement of GSII arriving on ANY US carrier. You can hold out all the hope you want about the Stratosphere, but VZ has never released two similarly spec’d phones on the same day, and that’s not about to change. I have no doubt the Strat is the keyboard LTE slider we saw, now is it possible that that is a GSII variant for Verizon? and that’s how they got around LTE in the GSII form factor? Plausible but I still doubt it. Samsung just released a candybar LTE phone not 4 months ago (Charge)  and there’s no sign of EOL anywhere.

          • Anonymous

“How about beyond a silly signup page, Samsung has made NO official announcement of GSII arriving on ANY US carrier.”
The Sprint variant has already passed through the FCC (http://www.droid-life.com/2011/07/27/galaxy-s-ii-for-sprint-hits-fcc-with-wimax-device-sales-pass-5-million-globally/)…pretty sure that’s pretty solid proof that Samsung is releasing it to US carriers…and will probably release sooner than 2 months from now…

          • Anonymous

haha really? That’s your argument? That’s a leak at best. Where’s Samsung’s actual announcement? Don’t confuse fact from rumor. No one’s denying it’s coming but until Samsung does the big event like last year with all the models out, it’s vaporware.

          • Anonymous

An FCC filing is rumor? Wow.

          • Anonymous

I called it a leak, but whatever floats your boat man. FCC filings have no bearing on release dates beyond, eventually. Doesn’t change there’s been no event to confirm a US launch on any carrier, and since they did it last year, and did it for GSII for every other region, and that press event hasn’t even been announced so you are still at LEAST a full month from launch. Truth hurts sometimes.

          • Sheabyrd1

dude why must you crap all over the speculation of others and NEVER contribute other than bash ideas? You seem more and more like a droid-life troll than an informed enthusiast. ‘flame suit on as I am SURE you have some BS comment’. ;)

          • Anonymous

troll? what? I just want to stick to the facts or really good leaks. Is that so hard? Everyone here has become an emotional wreck wanting things so badly basic common sense has gone out the window hanging onto any ASCII character that arranges with GSII. It’s an awesome but do we don’t even have a picture, or even a NAME for the damn GSII and people are all out arguing and DEFENDING it’s getting released in 3 weeks. Coming back down to reality isn’t trolling

          • Sheabyrd1

“GSII fans are in for a big letdown I think, you’re looking at it on that list…as the Samsung Illusion (similar vein as Fascinate), meaning it won’t be LTE.” Pretty bold statement for a guy who needs FACTS. However I DO AGREE with you on this. Just do me a favor and read the last 10-15 of your posts and ask yourself why you are so negative and obtuse. With your logic 95% of this site is pointless to you….But you still read the posts/articles/fanfare. Remember why you are at this site bud. Contribute don’t hate. I know you will respond to this but my point has been made. What phone are YOU waiting for if  (as it seems) you poo poo on “speculation”.

          • Anonymous

The irony of you quoting me was i clearly said “I think” meaning, just like everyone else, I’m wildly speculating there. You could also speculate the the GSII isn’t on that list at all.

” With your logic 95% of this site is pointless to you….But you still read the posts/articles/fanfare”

Sadly you’re right here. There was a time this site was a lot more about tips/rooting/updates/specials and much less on the speculation unless there were solid sources to things. This flipped I’d say in the runup-hype-delay of the Thunderbolt and stayed that way ever since. Granted, life was simpler then, less devices and what not, but still. Where else are you going to go? AC? They should be renamed Sprint/evo central. I do contribute, a lot. But I can’t not call out stupidity when I see it. And telling me that because some phone made it through the FCC for ANOTHER carrier means verizon is going to get it, and it’s going to 4G AND release soon violates an insane amount of logic.
As for my next phone, no idea. I’m ok with my X for now, but living in the middle of an excellent 4G city I’m foolish for holding out on LTE much longer.

          • Sheabyrd1

If you still are keeping up with this thread I think I am in the same boat as you. Running my DX OC and on justice I really don’t see a need to upgrade as I think LTE is still in its infacny and depending on the bionics battery life and thickness I don’t think that the technology has matured enough yet for me to switch. Plus our verizon rep has told us end of this year early 1st quater of 2012 they are flippin the switch here where I live. Just curious about anothers opinion. I DO think you are a informed andriod fan but I just feel I needed to call out the negativiy comming from your posts as of late. NOT trying to make you look like a cheese weiner lol.

Please, 90% of the comments on this site have degraded into nothing but completely irrational speculation, hate and FUD, particularly towards one brand.  There is very little discussion based on fact going on here, it’s all biased nonsense.

Samsung’s CEO said the GS2 is coming to America in August (about two weeks ago).

          • Anonymous

He said America, that would hold true if just one carrier gets the phone in August; they don’t all have to.

So uh, Curve is a 4g smartphone?

  • Andrew Akker

    Also, Vigor’s 10/5, not 10/6.

    Poor Bionic

    • Anonymous

i dont feel bad for the bionic at all, it will no doubt be a beast of a device….and a stable one…at least it better be stable theyve had 100 years to perfect it

  • Patrick Da Silva

Can we please stop with the semen jokes already?

    • I’m Kick-Ass!

Actually… that was me. I just jizzed your pants. Sorry about that Chief.

  • Patrick Da Silva

before i upgrade i’ll wait for the vigor
i was in doubt between bionic and sii
but i think i’ll go with the vigor

  • Alex Lock

i wanna know more about this “Stratophere ” and “virgo” ASAP

  • Anonymous

I am thinking that if the Stratosphere is indeed the GS2 and it is 4g then the bionic will not stand a chance.  This is probably how Sanjay got away with saying the bionic would be the first dual core 4g, because its going to come out on the same day as the other 4g dual core.  At this point i might be getting the Samsung out of spite for how well Moto has screwed me with my XOOM 3g with maybe sd support tomorrow maybe.

Or the Illusion is the GS2 and 3G only . It has to be because we know for sure the Samsung slider is 4G and there’s no other 4G Samsung device anytime soon.

      • I’m Kick-Ass!

No NO! Please not a slider.

  • Djlowproz

My last NE2 upgrade is 9/25 so I will have to wait till after that, im thinking Bionic if is not a bust.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000106808261 Keith Sumner

Just so you know, they don’t do NE2 anymore.

      • Anonymous

        You get one more.

      • dr154

We still do NE2, just after they use it, no more afterwards Keith.

So if you work for verizon, can you you confirm if the roadmap is true?

          • dr154

i cant confirm nor deny this supposed roadmap

          • I’m Kick-Ass!

Translation: If he indeed works for Verizon, he doesn’t have access to this level of sensitive data.

      • Djlowproz

yes it shows it on my verizon account im elgible for a upgrade right now but if I wait till after 9/25 I will be able to use my ne2 discount and retire my D1

  • Brian Maresca

Damn I still have my OG Droid…….should I wait the extra month after the Bionic’s release now and get the HTC Vigor?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1639081047 Joseph DiPierno

I am really liking the Vigor so far… Hopefully the Thuunderbolt will have Gingerbread by then!

This season’s phones were so horrible they are getting replaced the same year they came out :P

First gen 4G LTE never stood a chance.  They were all phones built on last year’s tech.

      • Patrick Da Silva
