Staples Offers $100 Off Coupon for Any Tablet Purchase

Anyone who hasn’t purchased one of this year’s first crop of tablets, still interested?  Staples just so happens to have a pretty decent selection and is now offering a $100 discount on “any tablet” that they carry.  After quickly cruising through their site, I noticed that they have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi, Toshiba Thrive, Asus Transformer, and Acer Iconia that are powered by Android.  Stores could be different, so you may want to call ahead and see which tablets they actually carry.  Not bad though – any tablet in the building for under $400?

*Valid in store only, if that wasn’t already clear.

Via:  Staples (coupon)

Cheers Brian and Craig!

I just spoke with a Customer Service representative for Staples, about when they might be restocking the ASUS Transformer.  She told me that they do not plan to restock that item, and they will no longer be selling it. Who knows if she actually had the knowledge, so take it for what its worth.  Guess I need to either drive the 100 miles to the closest Office Depot, or choose another tablet.

I went to a local OD & they were out but the employee said to go to another local OD since they had them in stock & there would be no problem. 2nd OD would not do it as manager said no deal. She called previous OD & the manager said that he would have done it if he had them but didn’t. I asked about transfer to OD that was out  & he said fine. Waiting for OD to call to inform transfer is complete. 2nd OD manager will back me up on the comment that the 1st OD manger said that he would accept the coupon. **Note though, as of 4:45 pm 072011 OD had put a note on their internal message board that this coupon is not valid for price matching** Will update as soon as the I get the call

    • Outcasthb

Update…got the transformer from OD for $299…..no further issues

  • Kcman

Every Staples I’ve looked at for availability does not even sell the Toshiba Thrive Tablet

  • wonka

got galaxy for 399.99 at staples. how often do people really use HDMI? No SDcard, but I stream everything from WHS/netflix/amazon/googly anyway. Content consumption device.

the only really  Big differences i see is  that the transformer batter only last 8 hrs while the Galaxy last 14 hrs an has  gps ..  anything else i am really missing here ..  how are they both to root ??

  • Poker_vol

Just had the clerk order me a 16gb Toshiba Thrive in-store at Staples via their online store for delivery at my house…$379.  Win.

    • Anonymous

Guy I just talked to said they can’t do that because it has to be paid for online and they can’t honor the coupon when it arrives. I envy you.

      • Anonymous

Since they’re quickly being sold out at all Staples stores around here, I just picked up an Iconia for $300. I figure that’ll give me some extra time to see if any store managers will ship me a Thrive with the discount, and if nobody will, at least I got the Iconia on the cheap. Just wish I could go home and mess around with it instead of sitting at work for the rest of the afternoon!

  • Stelv81

Transformer is out of stock in store and online at staples.

  • Guest

Ok, so looks like a no-go anymore for Office Depot because of the corporate wide memo sent out. (Unless you want a Playbook or Iconia Tab)  I also am afraid it won’t last long at Staples either.  Went I went in to the local Staples this evening, the person in front of me was literally trying with all he could to buy every Iconia Tab they had (even though the coupon says 1).  He had to have been trying to buy them to sell for profit.  The employee I dealt with said there had been numerous people in today, already, with the coupon.  I’m not sure if the higher ups in Staples realized how quickly this coupon would circulate. This store had 2 Iconia Tabs left and they were expected to be gone before the end of the night.  No Transformer at any store or online.  I picked up an Iconia Tab and couldn’t be happier though.  Just my two cents.

I visited two Office Depots and two Staples tonight to try to find my *Toshiba* that is not sold in Staples stores. The first Staples the girl wasn’t familiar with the Thrive but told me all about the $100 off sale that started today and initially thought it was valid online as well. She actually dug in the trash at the register to find me a used email that someone had printed out to give me for online, but then saw it said in-store only and gave me the code anyway to try online just in case (same code as on the coupon above; didn’t work online). The second Staples the manager took my printed out coupon and attempted to find a workaround to let me use it online but couldn’t do it. Point being: the sale and the coupon are real, nobody hassled me about it, but your likelihood of using it on items not in-store is low.

The first Office Depot the girl went to talk to her manager, then came back and gave me the “no technology” line. The second one the guy looked at the printout and immediately said, “We’re not honoring that.” I asked why, and he said they only honor it for items that are actually sold in Staples. I clarified with him that they couldn’t give me a pass since Staples does have it on their website, and he said it’s only for items that they have on-hand and in stock at the store.

Oh well, good luck to the rest of you!

The local assistant manager claimed that the exclusion, which only names the Nook model, also applies to the Nook Color, even though the Nook is an ereader, and THEY ADVERTISE RIGHT ON THE DISPLAY that the Nook Color is a tablet, her excuse was “it is reading oriented”

  • Cpayne07

Just got the transformer from office depot with discount. First office depot i went to asked me to come back tomorrow when the managers boss was in to verify the sale. Second store didnt even verify the price at staples store first, or thatitwas not sold in stores or sold out online :-). Good luck to anyone trying to do the same.

  • Anonymous

Our store (Ukiah, CA) carries the Motorola Xoom, Acer Iconia and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.1, but not the Toshiba Thrive or Asus Transformer, just an FYI for those in our area.

I pre-ordered a Toshiba Thrive from Amazon and got it about a week ago, paying $479 for the 16 GB version, I was thinking of sending it back and getting it for 100 bucks cheaper at our Staples, but as I stated above that’s a no go ;) We don’t have Office Depot or Best Buy here, just WalMart and Staples.

  • http://twitter.com/iamtyy Tyler Collum

So I went to Best Buy, and they wouldn’t match the coupon price, so I went to Staples, and the manager said he would order it for me and honor the price, once the tablet is in stock online.  I sure hope it gets in stock soon.

  • TurbineTech

I know this has been beat to death, but I can’t find this coupon on the Staples website. I’ve searched high and low and would like to be able to back it up in case I get any flak. Anyone have any pointers to locating it?

  • Probbiethe1

Hopefully i can help. I just picked up a dell streak for 200 dollars. I talked to easy tech and they said they did have a 50 dollar coupon last week but now its 100 dollar coupon so sorry for the people that bought last week. Just print off the coupon that is shown and take it in. its legit

I also pointed out how the coupon says not eligible with the nook but it doesnt say not eligible with the nook color which now thanks to the new nook (the black and white 6 inch ereader) are two different things. When i pointed that out a manger was there and they couldnt combat my statement so you might be able to get the nook color for 150. if they do give you a hard time show them there current ads because i looked at there ad and right in there it listen the nook color and the nook. so two different things

  • http://twitter.com/TeddyO1971 TeddyO

I ended up getting 2 Transformers. Ordered 1 for my wife that’s arriving next week via staples (Processed an online order instore so they would accept the coupon) and picked up one at my local Office Depot (No issues accepting coupon). I will be selling the two Sprint Galaxy 7″ tabs that I received from Woot last month to make up the cost. Great Deal.

    • mark

how much for the galaxy tab 7’s? good deal for both?

  • Jakesjunk2005

Office Depot is giving me a hard time, saying that their policy for accepting competitor coupons exclude technology items, since their own coupons exclude similar items. I called BS and showed them their own policy and how technology was not categorically named in their list of exclusions. So, they called Staples, verified that they don’t have any Transformers in stock, and denied the coupon because their price match policy does stipulate that the competitor must have the item in stock. They got me there. Now I’m gonna see if Staples will honor the coupon with a special order.

    • Jakesjunk2005

Well Staples couldn’t honor the coupon even if they wanted to because they’re completely out of stock both in-store and on their website. Best Buy said no, they do not accept competitor’s coupons for the price match either. So I’ll try one more Office Depot that I pass on my way home.

      • Jakesjunk2005

The nice girl at the second Office Depot was ringing it up for me, but her Asst Manager came up with a printout from their corporate HQ that refers to this Staples design. The printout, which I read over, says that OD can only accept the coupon on three models of Blackberry Playbooks and an Acer Iconia. Not even the manager was willing to give me the deal on the Transformer. I don’t want the Acer.

        • Smeckle

Yeah, they gave me the “no technology except Blackberry” line as well. Gonna try one or two more in the area and see what happens… :-(

          • Jakesjunk2005

The “no technology” line turned out to be BS, because the corporate office sent out a memo stating the four tablets that they would price match using the coupon. It just happened that the Transformer that I wanted wasn’t one of the four.

          • Guest

            Well Office Depot policy states

“If you find a lower price at another store on a new, identical item, show us the lower price at the time of purchase and we will match it on the spot. Or show us the lower price within 14 days of your Office Depot purchase and we will pay you the difference. Our price is the final price you pay after any discounts, coupons, instant savings and mail-in savings are applied. We will match the other store’s point-of-sale price after deducting their instant rebates and coupons.”As far as I’m concerned, that goes against their policy.

          • jakesjunk2005

I agree, but the fact that the competitor (in this case Staples) doesn’t actually stock the item (a standard requirement in price matching policies), means that I’m still out of luck as far as the Transformer. Now, if there was another tabelt that both stores had in stock, but wasn’t one of the four (3 playbooks & the Acer Iconia), then we’d have a problem.

          • Alexmishchuk

Go to different office Depot don’t talk to manager, just grab one and go to the register and give them a coupon. Went to one store no go, try second same thing, 3rd store got one $299

          • jakesjunk2005

  • Ntrddragn

the coupon say said no copy or fax. so office depot is ok with it?

  • Guest

Went in to local Office Depot in an attempt to get a price match and they said they aren’t a “competitor” to Staples and won’t honor the coupon. lolwut?

  • Guest

So…….. Transformer at my local Office Depot or Iconia Tab at Staples…….

  • Guest

closest staples to me is 71 miles away =/

    • Anonymous

I have 3 Staples within 4 miles of me.  Sometimes it’s nice living in a city ;)  (btw, only one had the 10.1 in stock, snatched that bad boy up)

  • http://twitter.com/masroorhussain Masroor Hussain

just asus T 16gb from office depot as staples are running out of it…thanks

  • Chris

Just walked in and grabbed a Galaxy Tab 10.1 for $399!  Thank you so much!!!

  • Anonymous

I just got bust buy customer service to price match the transformer. $299.00 plus 7.99 for shipping :)

  • Zebra

Just got back from my local Office Depot. They had no problem accepting the Staples coupon (its their policy) and I was out the door with a Transformer for $299! So if you don’t live near a Staples but have an Office Depot, its worth a shot.

    • http://twitter.com/masroorhussain Masroor Hussain

yep I got the same asus from office depot…they didn’t even try to validate just entered into system…
funny because the sale’s man ask three tims to buy 2 year warranty plan for 200$….nop thanks

      • Justin Moseley

So I went to two Office Depots today and I just got chewed out by a manager at the second Office Depot for trying to use the coupon. In between his rant he did manage to convey that since Staples doesn’t carry the Asus Transformer in their stores here in GA that they are not supposed to honor the coupon. Meanwhile the first office depot store said “Sure we will honor it! But unfortunately we don’t have any in stock so visit our other store”. Needless to say I will not be shopping and Office Depot after my experience there today.

        • Teknolazerpewpew

sorry chief, thats everyones policy, not just Depot. so not shopping there will do them a favor keeping tards out =P

    • Meltown00

Pulled this off today as well! Staples had no stock but the office depot I went to was real nice and gave me the deal with no problems! I love my new transformer!

  • Tnfan2k12

Staples just told me that this is a fake coupon and wouldn’t accept it. What’s the dealio

  • ChiuOnThis

Thanks to this article, I just picked up a Dell Streak 7 for $199.  They didn’t have it at my local store, had to drive  37 miles one way.  Hey it still worth it.  FYI, at this location, they only had the Streak 7, Xoom and Playbook with this deal.  Better call your local stores, to find out which tablet is included in this great deal, before heading out.

  • Peter Bartholomul

cool. so what if i get one of these $100 off coupons and buy a $600 tablet. by using this coupon i will only pay $500 and then i sell it for $550= profit.

  • kpurdu1
  • Zachary Ervin

I just drove almost an hour to the one store of all the stores in a 30mile radius that DOUBLE confirmed with me on the phone, “Yes sir we do have them in the store”. Only to get to the store and have the idiot tell me, “Oh, I had someone come up and ask me if we have them earlier and I said yes, but I though they meant Acer, and just were’t pronouncing it right…..” And he seemed genuinely amused by the screw up.It doesn’t appear that Staples carries the Asus in any store. Just a friendly heads-up for people who got way to excited like me :-(

    • Anonymous

One store told me – over the phone – that they’d honor the coupon and order the Thrive (2 day delivery).  Another Staples told me the deal is good only for items in stock.  So, I don’t know who to believe.  I’ll try the first Staples, of course.

Their items in stock — don’t want any of them.  Junk.

  • http://twitter.com/rabingham Ryan Bingham

A Dell Streak 7 for $199 (before they add tax, of course) is a very compelling purchase when you consider how far HoneyStreak development has come along.

Oh, if only they were selling the Asus Transformer in-store, though.

    • Anonymous

Love my Streak 7! It’s the best kept secret in Android tablets (though many would probably take issue with the crummy battery life).

  • Anonymous

So with this, my staples rewards and gift card for father’s day, I could get an Asus for $200…..

Almost too good to pass up…

I do love the look of the GTab, but I like the option of expandable memory (and $100 less for first gen hardware) ;)

  • Msturner79

Just got me anouther ACER A500.  It was $300.  That is crazy.  I love my A500.

  • Msturner79

  • joesred

ok…nobody can give a link to this coupon?

  • Zebra

FYI if you don’t have a Staples near you but have an Office Depot, you could always try using the coupon there. Many Office Depot’s accept Staple’s coupons.

    • Mentalspaz

did this after buying the Iconia at Staples this morning, was indeed able to get the transformer at Office Depot.

  • Nater

How do you get to the coupon from Staples.com? Was it an email link, or is there an easy link path to it? This would help out with managerial questions…

    • Peter Bartholomul

just bring your computer with you to staples. connect your computer to a wifi network while at staples and show the coupon on the screen to the staples employees. i suggest a plastic bag to transport your computer.

  • joesred

kk..I am going to wrangle with Best Buy and have them price match with this coupon.  Where exactly did this coupon originate?

    • joesred

not seeing it on the Staples website

    • Anonymous

Best buy denied price match. They claim coupon for extended warranty only. They wouldn’t hear otherwise so now I’m at staples. Well see if they accept.

  • Michael Suriel

Can I ask that you check your source because Phandroid had a $50 coupon just like this a few days ago. I went to use it on a Transformer and it didn’t work because the system wouldn’t accept it. The only way I would have been able to use the coupon is if I could have shown the manager where I got the coupon. I told him that I got it from Phandroid and he said that I needed to have gotten it from Staples themselves. He then said that the origin of this coupon was probably a promotional email from Staples and since I had no idea who the coupon belonged to I couldn’t use it. Sorry for the long story but I just wanted to warn you guys about this before you guys get disappointed like I did.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1236278449 Greg Gerhardt

      It’s on the staples website.

      • Josevazquez

Where on the website?  People might need to prove it…

  • Anonymous

Wtf, no Staples within 100 miles of me sells the Toshiba Thrive in-store? :-(

    • Michael Suriel

You dont wan’t the Thrive anyways.

      • http://twitter.com/coreno coreno

        What’s wrong with the thrive?

      • Anonymous

Why not? I’ve messed around with it a couple times at Best Buy and tried out the USB port with a flash drive I had on me and I like it. The interchangeable battery, USB port, and full-size SD and HDMI are things that no other tablet has right now. Plus it supports external storage up to over 1 TB between the USB and the SD. I’d like to read your thoughts, though, if you have any specific reasons for why the Thrive is not a good option. I know some people complain that the screen doesn’t look too good outside, but the chances of me using the wifi outside aren’t too high anyway. :-)

        • Peter Bartholomul

the name alone is a disappointment. “xoom” sounds much more manly.

          • Anonymous

The Xoom reminds me of those “old” Mazda commercials going, “ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM!!! ZOOMZOOM ZOOMZOOM!!”

More of an annoying name to me in that connotation ;-)

  • Sylense

I’d say its about time I snagged me up a tablet before the 30th. Transformer $299, I think so.

  • Br_hermon

For anyone looking, I’d recommend the Transformer. The new Galaxy tab doesn’t even have a Microsd slot! The transformer also offers usb & hdmi out and on top of all that it’s $100 cheaper.  For those who are concerned about “in-store only” There’s a round about way of using this coupon online. Do this… Head to the store, point out to a salesmen that they don’t have any Transformers on their shelves but sell them on their site. You can purchase the transformer, through their site with the help of a salesmen and still use the coupon! Ship it to their store for free shipping.

    • http://twitter.com/rabingham Ryan Bingham

The problem seems to be that Staples doesn’t offer the Transformer in store. It seems like no one does– I was shocked to see a Best Buy display model, but it said it was out of stock until next month.

      • Anonymous

As long as you buy IN-STORE, they will apply the coupon.  Go to the store and buy “online” and they will ship to you (for free) and give you the coupon.  I just got a Galaxy Tab 10.1 32Gb and it will arrive Wednesday.

        • Justin Moseley

Tried this as well and the Staples store said they got a call from corporate that they are not allowed to use the in store coupon online as described above. Looks like if you are in GA you are out of luck for getting an ASUS transformer for $100 off.

right after I get my refurb xoom from woot D:
i mean, it’s still awesome, but i could have a new xoom or tf or 10.1… *facepalm*

      Same exact situation here! lol

    • rogmon

Awaiting my Xoom from Woot as well!!  Just saw that it shipped yesterday via FEDEX and should be here on Friday.. can’t wait!

Yeah, but this is like getting the keyboard dock for $50 and the Transformer at full price.

  • http://twitter.com/john_ecko js

what are the chances of amazon price matching??

    • Speedyrulz8

      They don’t match online prices

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, GrabPenny.com

  • Mentalspaz

Asus only available for ship :(

    Acer any good?

  • http://twitter.com/Cory_OBrien1029 Cory O’Brien

Too bad you can’t use it for a nook color.  You could root that sucker and have yourself a nice little tablet for under $200.

    • D.R.

Last week I tried to use a $50 coupon from Staples of the exact same nature for a Nook Color for my wife.  The manager said the system couldn’t do it, but he went ahead and took $20 off himself.  So it might be worth trying.  You could possibly get $40-50 off.

Damnit, I told myself I wasn’t going to spend any more money.  $400 for a new Xoom or Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a good deal.  Just got to choose between them…

Galaxy Tab 10.1 seems the way to go. I never liked the Xoom.

    • http://twitter.com/Technogasms Sean Riley

Based on its size alone I’d say go with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the fact that it is the device devs got at I/O I think clinches it.

    • Anonymous

As a Xoom owner I would recommend the Galaxy Tab. The Xoom is an excellent device and is (generally) first to get updates, but damn the Tab is sexy in comparison and runs equally well. And for this price you would almost be crazy not to. I am considering picking one up and throwing my Xoom on Craigslist.

      • Anonymous

I have the Xoom and am in the same boat. Unless you really need SD and HDMI out…? which the Galaxy has, you just have to buy the adapters. I used the HDMI out on my Xoom once since I got it and that was just to see if it worked. The size/weight is what matters most to me. Plus the Galaxy’s dock looks good for a carputer setup, something the standard dock for Xoom struggles with.

    • JCZ

No SD card for the Galaxy Tab is a deal breaker for me. Otherwise it looks great.
