I have updated Galaxy S to some popular, quite stable ICS ROM at some time out of curiosity and it was quite a good experience (some things improved, some worse in terms of experience and performance – that’s a pretty old phone already so I understand) but I downgraded it back to Samsung’s stock TouchWiz ROM to have testing environment similiar to millions of S1 and S2 owners.

As those ROMs improve regularly, I would recommend it to anybody to install custom ROM on old, popular phone. 4.0+ is worth occasional bug.

Seriously. There are one click root apps out there. My Droid Incredible is running Android 2.3.5 as of tonight and I’ve had Gingerbread since January.

In the end – I don’t know why anyone would still insist on waiting for those updates from manufacturer as rooting and flashing Android phone with custom ROM is one click process. Maybe there are issues with carriers in US, I don’t know, I’m from Europe and I have Gingerbread 2.3.4 on Samsung Galaxy S and video-chat on Skype enabled so I’m just happy.
