Google+ Invites Have Been Stopped for Now

As many of you noticed, we pulled the Google+ sign-up post from last night.  For those that missed our message on Twitter, we did so because the invite system was taken down by Google after an overwhelming number of new members joined.  They want to keep this bad boy stable and continue to roll it out gradually to everyone.

There are potentially a couple of work-arounds to get you in the program, but we’re hearing that they have started to patch most of them.  If you do know some though, feel free to post those up in the comments below.

What we will ask, is that DO NOT POST YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNTS IN THE COMMENTS.

  • Anonymous

Hopefully they don’t take too long, otherwise the buzz will fade and they’ll miss their opportunity.  No fun logging in to seeing 1 person.

Just sent you an email from my Gmail account.  Please give me an invite!

  • Austin

I DON’T KNOW IF INVITES ARE WORKING BUT I GOT IN BECAUSE SOMEONE POSTED ON THEIR STREAM WITH MY EMAIL ADDRESS AND I CLICKED JOIN AND NOW ITS WORKING!!!

    • Anonymous

I just tried that and it worked.  I was able to get one of my friends an invite by posting something in my stream and hitting the share button and selecting his email.
      btw, fix your caps lock.

      • Austin

Yah I realized that after I posted

  • Austin

ATTENTION IT IS BACK UP. I JUST GOT IN!

  • http://twitter.com/AndroidEcko Bonifacio

I created a New Google account, posted it so someone can invite “me”. Planned on inviting my myself (my actual account that I use daily) afterwards.

  • Mneighbo

Glad I got mine last night. All hell broke loose. It was a frickin free for all. Over 3700 comments on the Droid-Life post when I checked it this morning.

  • Austin

Google is screwing themselves here. If they don’t let people in soon people are going to loose interest and not want it anymore.

    • http://www.facebook.com/nulton.2 Matt Nulton

They’re screwing themselves by keeping a beta service that has just now started to get media coverage small and stable while they further develop it? Have patience, I promise you it’s worth it. It’s far beyond where facebook was in it’s first 3 years of public access and its not even publicly released yet

  • Booboolala2000

So, when I try to access the site via mobile (thank you Mr Martini) I get a message that reads, “You need an invite”, when on Laptop it reads “Over capacity, check back soon”. LOL, I really hope that this is planned out well. Even ,my iPhone friends are looking for an alternative to facebook. Posted the video of Google+ on facebook and about 25% of my friends are wanting invites. I haven’t told them that it is closed yet, because I don’t want them to lose interest. Like people have done with Path.

  • Austin

Nope they shutdown all new users from joining. :(

  • Lopezb1331

Can anyone send me an invite?

  • Blackmar_cdla

I got in last night. It took a while but finally was able to squeeze in and then10 minutes later they shut down ppl from joinin

I’ve been invited and I can send invites as soon as they turn the invite system back on so shoot me a msg or reply to this and we can get in touch!

  • Anonymous

I got in last night with an invite from this forum. I came back and returned the favor the best I could. I only got two invites out before the “invite” button disappeared from my page.

What sucks is I did not get to invite any friends. A social network site without friends is not much fun. I don’t see myself doing much until I can invite friends and family again.

  • Booboolala2000

As much as I want to use this, if it is not open to the public in two weeks it’ll probably fade away. Just my opinion. The Fourth would be a great day for a national launch.

  • http://twitter.com/AndroidEcko Bonifacio

I just want to get onboard before this gets all lame like Facebook.  I want to give this a try with my circle of friends that are Android buffs.  I am still standing my ground, I never had a Fakebook (not a typo, most people are fake on FB)!

  • SprottheDestroyer
    • SprottheDestroyer

      • SprottheDestroyer

      • http://twitter.com/nosnhojm nosnhojm

        This worked for me!  Thanks!

    • http://twitter.com/UFSanity Curtis

Even then, you get the “Already Invited? We’ve temporarily exceeded our capacity” message.

  • http://profiles.google.com/pdenson Paul Denson

I got an invite last night and signed in with no troubles. Its pretty much just really quiet in there.

  • kingtenor

RIght when they had posted the google+ invite post, my internet started acting funny. After fixing it about a few hours later, it was too late. The invite that got away

  • http://twitter.com/tittlemanscrest Stephen Parker

I like how you guys say don’t post your gmail accounts and people are like “OH EM GEE! HERES MUH EMALE!”

    haaaaaaaaha.

  • Tdpietrini

so I got an invite email last night (someone from the forums invited me) but it never let me through. when I signed in it would tell me I needed an invite? Any ideas?

    • Austin

      Same happened to me

  • http://profiles.google.com/kevincburns Kevin C. Burns

I’d like an invite when the system is back

  • http://profiles.google.com/makmagic Random Acts of Entertainment M

I was one of the morons that posted the gmail account. Would LOVE an invite if anyone can get me one.

  • Bill Bob Knob

they are doing it to bring up the hype! people want what they cant have….makes it a big deal. I really like it but there is no one I know on it right now. NOT a single Person. So it is useless to me as of now. We wiill see what happens in a few days. I think it will be the next big thing. Google you are the SHIT!

  • Jeff

I got on last night. but now i’m just sitting around like Kip Drordy on south park ( you have 0 friends) episode.
    “I have 0 friends”

    • Twofourturbo

      HAHAHAHAHAHA.. SO DAMN TRUE..

    • John

      lol. love that eps

  • Corporaljohnson

        Same

  • Anonymous

Anyone know how many comments that last post had? Last I checked before kellex took it down it was around 760. I’m sure it must have been a record for droid life!

    • http://www.facebook.com/stevenindy Steven Ege

      3000 + if I remember correctly

      • Anonymous

        WOW!

    • http://profiles.google.com/gonnadie4thegov Jeremy Wray

i think it was at 2600-ish last night when i saw it

    • dandroid05

last I saw this morning, it was 3400+

      • SprottheDestroyer

it was over 2k in less than an hour. definatly over 3000 before i went to bed last night around 1am central

    • Anonymous

AndroidPolice allegedly had the record for most invites out of everyone in the G+ system.

their site was so hammered I cudnt even post my email into comment for an invite.

    • Anonymous

it was somewhere in the area approaching 3000 comments when i saw the post finally :P got my invite right as the doors closed leaving me out in the cold…

  • http://iamandroid.co/profile/rocktoonz Rocktoonz

if anyone figures a way to get some invites out, I’m dying to try this PLEASE! :)

    • Austin

Even if they give you an invite there is no way to join

  • http://twitter.com/ChrisCorp ChristopherCorpening

What really sucks is that I missed this entire google+ invite all together. I am a loyal google fan and remember being one of the invites to try out gmail when it first launched. I really want to try out google+ but they haven’t sent me my invite! Grrr google….

    • Bill Bob Knob

do you need vagisil for that sad yeast infection?

  • Blunt-Trauma-

if you can still send out invites, don’t refresh your browser or close it as you will lose the ability to send them out!

  • Spencer9663

Once again I figured out the hard way that you have to be 18 to join. I am 17….

    • Anonymous

Sucks for you. At least you’re honest about your age.

    • jojo4747

Don’t worry people 13 and up will be able to make a Google plus. The website just isn’t secure for teens yet.

  • McLovin

    Ah..I’m in. LMAO

  • TheAndroid1

If they want this to even stand a chance against Facebook and other social networking sites.  They need to open this up to everybody NOW.  The only reason Facebook was able to start with a smaller group was because it was released to ONE college.  Everybody using it was in one general area, on the campus.  With this, there are just going to be random people on it from random places.

    • http://profiles.google.com/gonnadie4thegov Jeremy Wray

its in beta, they arn’t following facebooks growth of starting small. they just need to make sure everything is working correctly and their servers can handle it

      • TheAndroid1

How long are they going to wait, if they wait too long the excitement is lost and they will have to fight an even steeper up hill battle.

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Why is NOW any different from a day from NOW?

      • TheAndroid1

NOW they have excitement. Every day that goes by they lose some of that excitement. It is already going to be hard enough for them to get the critical mass. Each day they wait it will be harder for them.

Lucky I posted about seeing if anyone could send me an invite yesterday on Tumblr, which I have linked to my Facebook fan page. A friend from Facebook that I use to work with was kind enough to send me an invite, luckily before that workaround was patched.

  • Anonymous

I wanted a google+ invite but didn’t want to post my email so all can see and take. I’m stingyer with my email then I was with my verginity.

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Im sure there are alot more people that want the former…

      • Anonymous

        That’s very true. lol

  • http://twitter.com/ant_fallin Anthony Fallin

I’ve got a buddy that works for Google, he’s supposedly sent me an invite…We’ll see…

  • Scott Baugh

Not being in google+ yet is more stressful then not having a .edu email address back in 2004.

  • http://twitter.com/OreWaZero Christopher Zoellner

Meh of course they would close it.. assholes. This exclusive BS is like gmail all over again

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Would you complain this much if you had gotten in and then constantly recieved server time out errors..

  • Bullet Tooth Tony

So what you’re saying is you’ll be sending me an invite??? ihavenopatience -at- gee male -dot- com!

  • http://profiles.google.com/potentialender james netzer

They sent me an invite a little over an hour ago.  :) Glad I got in.

    • Anonymous

      Lucky you :(

  • The Observer

Glad I got my invite last night. Loving Google+; now I just need to be able to invite more friends and family.

  • Jeremy Gentry

and i quote “There are potentially a couple of work-arounds to get you in the program” how the hell do you trick an invite system that is shut off into giving you access to it? WTF?!

  • Anonymous

I’m sorry, I posted my gmail address last night… I was just so damn excited for an invite!!

Thanks for keeping us up to date!

  • Pat Morton

Trying to decide – are you trolling or did you just not read the article?

      • tjhrulz

He wanted to be first to fail XD

        • Pat Morton

lol like i said. it doesnt matter wut im first at. the fact is that i was first and not u. so just take a deep breath and get over it. u were not first and u dont have to be jealous

          • Pat morton

I posted it to b a douche. Lol

    • Anonymous

      haha wow.

    • John

      sigh RTFA

  • tjhrulz

You could have just modified the original one again, also first

    • Pat Morton

      nope. u r a few seconds off. u r not first. I WAS FIRST

      • MrWolf

And you were the first to fail at reading comprehension.  Good on you.

        • Pat Morton

i read it. why do u think i posted my gmail?

          • Anonymous

            to be a dick?

      • tjhrulz

        • Pat Morton

it doesnt matterwut u meant to say. lol. u cant deny the fact that i was first. no need to be upset or jealous

          • tjhrulz

If you were to do that you would see who won, stupid trolls are everywhere these days

          • Pat Morton

yea. i was first. therefore i won. it doesnt matter if the first post was stupid, smart, or annoying. I was first

          • Bullet Tooth Tony

Actually… you weren’t first… go ahead and sort by “oldest first”…. it’ll shatter your whole world and what appears to be what you thought was the greatest achievement in your life thus far…

    • http://twitter.com/udnaan Adnan

Another reason they took it off was because there were way too many email addresses in the comments section. I imagine that that would have become a honeypot for spammers, if they didn’t remove the article.

      • tjhrulz

Didn’t think about that, so good point
