Yeah I guess that's true. I had an screenshot app, but I really only used it once total. Uninstalled. But some people may have a good use for it. I think the reasons I listed probably have a wider fanbase:)

Don't forget an easy way to do screenshots as a reason for rooting. I create a lot of documentation for these phones and iPhones and it would be nice if that process didn't involve installing an entire SDK to get it working.

I had the OG Droid, I currently own the Droid X. I miss the physical keyboard, but I've lasted a test without it. Should I go with the D3 or hold out for the Bionic even though I don't have 4G in my area yet (mainly for the purpose of getting in while it's still unlimited to be grandfathered)?

Follow me on twitter (tomgillotti) and let me know what you think.

Bootloader situation I can (kinda) understand. Even though I'd prefer to NOT have my bootloader locked for obvious reasons, the PRIMARY reason is so I can upgrade the phone without having to wait around endlessly for the carriers. If the announcement a few weeks back that Google is going to work more closely with carriers/manufacturers in ensuring that updates are timely, then for me that takes away a big draw for me to root. With the insane processing power on this, not really a whole lot of need to overclock, so that reasoning is out as well. So that only leaves:

Custom Roms (I've been hooked on Pete's stock gb ROMS, so timely updates will wipe out this reason)
Bloatware (for Christ sake's load it up to the effing brim if you want, but just make it to where we can remove this happy horse shit)
Themes (I don't really use anyway so not really interested, and PS launcher pro is theme-able)
Overclock (with a dual core OMAP 4430 are we really going to need to OC?)
Updates (quit horsing around with updates and we're good)
Tether (I do this responsibly with wired tether only when I absolutely need it. This occurs MAYBE once a month, and I don't do dumb stuff like download torrents or play online games. And the wired tethering solutions on the market (PDANed, tetherberry) still work as far as I know)

So in other words, the only major reason to root is to get that effing bloatware off the phone. If carriers weren't greed stricken imbeciles they would make it to where you could uninstall. Don't they realize that now that Android is mainstream there will be more than enough morons who don't even know how to uninstall stuff? Believe me, Verizon, there will be plenty of dummies out there that you can constantly read their phone state and identity, private contact data, and the like with your crapware because they won't ever take it off the phone.
