Gowalla has a nice look but no one is on it, its buggy, and there apparently is no true GPS function. It uses cell towers to triangulate locations and this leads to check in issues.
I love Foursquare. The Android version is good but not near as nice at the version for iPhone. I am hoping it catches up in functionality. But I am still addicted.

You root the phone and apply themes and custom ROMs. Check under Root on the to bar of this site and read through some of the posts, that should get you on the right track.

Updates like this are no longer optional, but downright mandatory if FourSquare has any hopes of holding on to their lead in this space. The phone interface is so much more important than the website, and I don't understand why thy neglected this fact for so long. The majority of the time you are going to spend with this is when you are on the go, you don't want to have to wait until later to accept friends and other such things. Grab the users when they want to see it... on the phone.

Personally, I like to use it as a sort of travel log, but for the critical mass of everyday people, they need to up their marketing and get more advertisers on board NOW, before Facebook sucks up all the ads dollars (coupons, freebies,etc) in this space.

I just received the OTA update & could not believe my phone storage was too full to update, yeeps! I went on a clear data spree but now can't get the update prompt. Anyone know how to do this on Nexus One?

Foursquare, a location based social networking game, is now available for Android. This game allows users to share their location with their friends. It has been one of the most popular apps for the iPhone and is Gowalla’s main competition. Usually apps ported over from the iPhone are not as good on Android as they were on the iPhone. But this app has a few features that the IPhone doesn’t; the most notable one is Google Maps integration.
