Wait what? I'm very confused. You rip on Chromebooks because "you can get all that with a regular laptop with better specs and a better battery for almost the same price" and yet you say you want one?

I've thought since the Cr-48 that $250 was the price where Chromebook use would grow. After 22 months, technology has caught up with that goal. My Cr-48 display hinge is loosening, but it's been a transformative and heavily-used machine for me.
I use a 12-thread Windows 7 workstation at work, and have XP and Vista (not mine!) at home, with Ubuntu 12.04 on my main home and older kid's machines; there are two Nexus S phones in our house, two Sony Google TVs, and there's are small Windows boxes where I teach college part time.

The Chromebook has mediated all that environment beautifully. G-Drive spreadsheets have replaced 80% of my Excel usage, Cloud Print has unified printing everywhere I go, and I've even found use for Chrome remote desktop. Very many of those things I wouldn't have tried if I wasn't testing a Cr-48.

*IF* the performance on these new Samsung Chromebooks is OK, then I'm sort of hoping that our local elementary school will see the virtue in getting 4 of them instead of a single MacBook. As soon as students start collaborating within a class, I'd say it's the Chromebook that is more capable. ;^)

I've been wanting to get one of these for the longest of times. Since I spotted a chromebook add on some website I've researched my butt off on them. Not a lot to work on, but still enough for me to know that this was the "laptop" for me. However, the pricing has been much too high for me but now I will most certainly be getting one of these very freaking soon.

Considering that most technology is being replaced around the two year mark (think of your cell phone), I imagine it is Google's intention to come out with a better spec-ed version every two years. The original Chromebook was released (as a testing device) in December of 2010 (http://goo.gl/gKfGR for source), so here we are two years later and they are offering a new version at a more competitive price point.

And if you do the math, it's $5/mo for 100Gb of Drive storge. $5 * 24mo = $120. So in all honesty, Google is giving you nearly half of the cost of the next upgrade (assuming it keeps the same price) in giving 100Gb for free for two years. Can you save $130 over two years?

Just pointing it out since it wasn't mentioned in the post. Since it is a $150 value, I thought it should be noted. As people may buy this for its portability, and one place people like to use their computer is on the plane. And since this is based off an internet connection, I saw it as a good move on Google's part, in addition to the 100gb free cloud storage. And I am actually unemployed, but if you could hook me up with a job promoting Amazon, I wouldn't mind.
