We’re just splitting hairs now. My point is, the root and unlock methods have to keep up with the OTA updates. The app will probably be updated as OTA’s are released, but sometimes, their tricks get patched. If they don’t, there could be issues. I mentioned the Incredible as an example of a phone that was rooted until the GB update. Then, you had to downgrade hboot just to get root again. HTC unlocked the bootloader and it was still a pain to get root (obviously not for devs). Here is a quote from the developer that posted the unlock method ”
Let me make this clear. If Samsung updates your device’s bootloaders, using this tool could potentially brick your device. Once you apply this, never accept a factory update without first flashing the Odin Packages in the Original Post of this thread. As a general rule, you want to be the last guy to apply any Samsung update. Run custom.”

It certainly wouldn’t have been planned. This makes the developer version of the phone entirely pointless.

Has verizon ever patched an exploit to a bootloader ever? I’ve never heard of them doing so

Careful. If any OTA is released by Verizon, this tool will be useless until they come up with a new unlock method. If you wait too long to get an S3, it may already come “patched” and unable to root or unlock the bootloader. They managed to lock the original HTC Incredible after the gb update. It took forever for them to figure that one out, and it wasn’t pretty. This app could brick your phone otherwise.

Working very well. Long sms messages get split into two and netflix will not work at all. I could not find a way to get camera to save to sd card. Data and all critical things seem to be working perfectly.

It wont let me download the app from the Google Play Store directly from my Droid X. I plan to get the Galaxy S3 and want to keep the G S3 Bootloader unlocker app in a safe place till I get the Galaxy S3. I downloaded the app from the official Rootzwiki topic and uploaded it on my Box.com account.

There’s a difference in a signed bootloader and an encrypted bootloader. Pretty sure Moto is rocking a signed and encrypted bootloader. From the sounds of things what us SG3 owners are rocking are more along the lines of a leaked unlocked aboot.img which is a different beast.

I’m running Synergy’s latest nightly. Does anyone know if I can use this to unlock and keep running Synergy, and if I have a problem can I restore a nandroid? Can this be relocked if necessary?

Actually I believe it is more of Samsung sucks at keeping internal software internal. Someone leaked an unsecured bootloader for the phone that is likely used for internal development purposes.
