Rumored Press Images of Google’s Nexus 7 Tablet Leak, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Reported By Another Source

Is this the Nexus tablet that we will see at Google I/O this year? The 7″ tablet is said to have a Tegra 3 quad-core chip inside and will sell for reportedly under $250. The folks over at Phone Arena have come across some alleged press image drafts of the front and back of the unannounced tablet and a few rumors to whet our appetite until launch.

The tablet will have an all-white front with a two-toned grey and black back piece. What looks even more interesting is the earpiece cut-out on the front of the tablet. The tipster to Phone Arena says that this tablet will launch with Android 4.1, which we have already heard is going to be named Jelly Bean. The way things are going, Android 4.1 is sounding like a feature-packed upgrade that isn’t a complete overhaul, similar to the jump from Android 2.0 to 2.1. Rumors are starting to get bigger and juicer. Do you like the styling in these images?

  • KOBALT

The whole picture and tablet edges are blurry…. yet the screen is black and crisp on all the edges… :/

  • picaso86

It looks like a Giant SG3!…

    • MeatspinDOTcom

      No it doesn’t

  • brad
  • Kyle Bailey

Really don’t like the two tone colour on the back, would’ve been nicer if it was one full colour. I’d still buy it regardless though, but here’s to hoping its fake.

  • Joshua Dudash

the front looks a lot like the Galaxy Note.. Not unattractive but the front speaker doesnt evoke a tablet… Its definitely large enough to be one though.

  • ArrTooDeeToo

Portrait orientated tablets are so awkward. I hope that have a 10.1 nexus tab for us landscape fans.

  • paul_cus

    Fake City.

  • http://twitter.com/Defenestratus Defenestratus

The side bezel is waaaay too thin to be on a tablet (where you hold the thing).

  • Knlegend1

That’s a Galaxy Note…come on now Asus uses an industrial design. They’re not going to change because google(software company) says so.

  • Benjamin Parker

That’s no earpiece. It’s the only speaker on the system.

  • Brent Stewart

I hope this isn’t what it looks like. This looks like a phone not a tablet at all. I don’t need a giant phone, I have a phone. I need a tablet. This thing is just ugly.

  • Butters619

Galaxy Note on the front….upside down O.G. iPhone on the back?

  • teevirus

I am skeptical of this image. In addition to what appears to be an ear piece on the front the back right has what also look like speakers. There appears to be a bump on the back top center where a camera might go but it appears blank in this image. I doubt this is a final version of the Google Tablet.

  • http://twitter.com/wungfu Mikey

    total fake

  • DROID DOES

I’m sorry, but this looks like a blown-up Galaxy note

  • http://twitter.com/JByckowski Jake Byckowski

I’m just not sure how that was post worthy.. I guess give me 15m in Photoshop and I’ll stretch out a picture of my Nexus for your next rumor post.. brb

  • Chris Wilkey

Maybe they are really looking to push Google Voice? That’s the only reason I could see the reason for the speaker up top..

  • TheWenger

Looks fake. The front is a photoshopped Note.

  • Adam

10.1 is almost always to big and 7 is too much like a phone…why not 8.9?

    • feztheforeigner

I would like a 13″ tablet, personally. 10.1 may be [almost] to big for some people, but definitely not everyone…

  • John

Can’t wait to get jelly bean on my galaxy Nexus……..next year

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Buck/100003482949493 Joe Buck

guess the good news is that its not samsung

    White Bezel = Losing

    • https://plus.google.com/110773438514346746273/ tjhrulz

They should make it match the Galaxy Nexus

  • Bionic

Im ready to spend my money

  • Knlegend1

And why do we need Jelly Bean?

    • Bionic

      why dont we?

      • Knlegend1

More fragmentation…can we enjoy ICS first. Its not even a year old publicly.

        • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Yeah, that’s true. Everyone knows the best way to advance technology is just to sit back and relax so people can enjoy what they have. Why go to Mars? Can’t we just sit back and relax and enjoy the moon landing?

          • Knlegend1

I doubt the moon landing too, but that’s another story lol.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

So you’d rather Android just stop at ICS? Like that’s it, they’re done?

      • Knlegend1

ICS is only on 7% of the devices. Some people are still using Froyo, Their feet is still wet with ICS. I’m not saying we don’t need it or for them to be in development but its way too soon to be talking about another version of the OS. I’m almost confident that if they were to do JB that it wouldn’t be that big of an improvement over ICS. To me its says this last version of Android really wasn’t good here’s the new one.

        • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Never look back, keep pushing. JB is going to be an incremental upgrade anyway so there probably won’t be any compatibility issues with apps or anything like that. Why should Google slow down just because OEMs can’t keep up?

“To me its says this last version of Android really wasn’t good”
If you’ve ever programmed, you’ll realize it’s never good enough. It doesn’t mean the previous version wasn’t good, but software should always be evolving.

          • Knlegend1

I’m not a programmer so I guess you can take my words with as a grain of salt. Also I haven’t received my ICS update yet so that also plays a factor in how I feel about it.

          • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Well I’m sorry you haven’t gotten ICS yet, but keeping Jelly Bean from releasing isn’t going to make you get it any faster.

    • https://plus.google.com/116879163037230501137/posts Cullen Maglothin

Because, ICS focused mainly on the GUI side of the development, with the exception of enabling GPU acceleration everywhere. Jelly Bean should enable better optimizations for CPU, like those that were developed by Linaro. This update should also include updated and more consistent GApps, and hopefully unify the look and feel of all Google’s widgets.

      • Knlegend1

I understand and I’m probably in the minority but I think it would be better to just update ICS then. I just don’t see that a brand new OS is needed. That’s just me though.

        • https://plus.google.com/116879163037230501137/posts Cullen Maglothin

This is why the number scheme has such a little jump. Only from 4.0 to 4.1. There is probably not enough of an update to warrant a large jump, like 4.0 to 5.0, but there is enough improvement to make the jump from one codename to another.

  • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

    So it’s a giant iPhone?

  • spickle

    me want.

  • Raven

Gah, hate the white face. I looks too much like something Apple would make.
All devices should have black bezels on the front, much better for viewing content.
Make the back look like whatever, but please not a white front.

  • Eric

Looks like the Galaxy Note minus the buttons. Terrible look, if this is it i’m not getting one.

    • ToraRTC

      It’s very obviously fake.

  • http://www.gizmoninja.com/ Tabe

Couldn’t the “earpiece speaker” simply be the tablet’s speaker? Makes more sense to me to have the speaker on the front of the device. Doesn’t necessarily have to be associated with telephony.

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

      Good point

    • RedPandaAlex

I agree, though I’d expect it to be at the top and bottom if that was the case

      • picaso86

        ^ Exactly what I thought…

  • InyRules

Not impressed with the aesthetics. It likes like a huge phone rather than a tablet. It might confuse some people. Really, the front looks like the Note.

    • ToraRTC

      That’s because it’s a phone photoshopped. It’s very fake.

  • cancerous_it

Fake unless you like talking to a phone the size of a cutting board.

  • Guest

    > interesting is the earpiece cut-out on the front of the tablet.

How thick is this device if the earpiece connector can plug in from the front????

    • truthb3told

      That’s not a 3.5 mm jack, it’s a front facing camera…..

  • Zane Lindsay

I wish it was bigger then 7″.

    • FortitudineVincimus

and then promptly left when she got a look at you

  • Answer2K1

Looks like a really big Galaxy Note…

  • Justin Duino

The front looks like a photoshopped front of a Samsung Galaxy Note

  • http://profiles.google.com/crazyrunner33 David Flower

looks pretty slick, you’d never guess that it’s only 250 or less.

  • @scottyfromga

yep….i like it. take my money!

  • http://twitter.com/sparty569 sparty569

Why is this coming from PhoneArena? Shouldnt it come from TabletArena? ;P

    • Bionic

      lame

  • Kaizen_2012

    Looks like a giant phone

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dmw017 Dominic Wagner

Wow it looks like a big i*hone

  • http://twitter.com/Defenestratus Defenestratus

Ew. Looks like a giant phone.

    I’ll pass thanks

  • Peter

I’m very impressed with ICS and how ever Google has managed to improve it in Jelly Bean will be really interesting. I don’t know if I’m sold on the tablet idea yet especially since I plan on getting an ultra portable laptop for school this year but I might get it to flash the hell out of it because that’s just how much of a geek I am haha

  • http://www.facebook.com/LuisElTiburon Luis Rojas

After seeing windows 8 tablets I want nothing less

    • JoshGroff

I want dual boot, just like my PC set-up, I like having one OS for work and one for play.

  • Bauce40

It looks like the Galaxy Note on the front (hence the ear speaker). Total fake.

  • AMGala

Why would it have an ear speaker like a phone if it were a tablet?

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

      My thoughts exactly….

      • Stew

They wouldn’t try to market it as a giant phablet with phone capabilities do you? Assuming these are legit…

        • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

Until we get some official info from Google and Asus, then who knows. A 7″ phablet just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me :-/ I’m curious to see how this pans out!

          • http://twitter.com/thehammerofthor Jeff Helget

I’m dying to see someone hold this up to their ear… Google and ASUS would be trolling us all

          • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

Well, two hands are needed, naturally! :P

          • mikeym0p

IDK, I can easily one hand 7″ tablets such as the Galaxy Tab 2 7″. Perhaps it’s just the loudspeaker? There have been plenty of complaints about the rear mono speaker on the Transformer tablets.

          • florious80

Transformer tablets have stereo speakers on the sides. I’m looking at mine right now. Did you mean ipads?

          • cmonnats23

Nothing beats a good ole Thats What She Said!

          • 123

Nothing beats a good ol’Thats What She Said!

          • hkklife

Pantech’s Element is a very real tablet with oversized phone-style styling (front speaker etc).

          • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

Again, that device doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me lol

          • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

People always seem to forget that the Original Samsung 7inch Tab was a Phone everywhere else but the US.

          • michael arazan

a dedicated phone in a tablet using a blutooth headset would be nice.

          • justincase_2008

What about the people with 12 inch heads they needs phones that will fit….

          • Stew

Maybe if this is legit they’ll just throw it out there like it’s just a speaker and let VoIP clients and consumers take it like they want to. I think Google and Asus are at least somewhat smart and wouldn’t market a 7″ phablet… that’s just stupid…

        • blix247

          Probably internet calling only

        • Josh Nichols

I doubt it would be $249 as rumored if it were a phablet..

    • Bionic

to make phone calls using google voice

    • Liquidretro

Ability to do private google voice calls?

    • http://twitter.com/orrehho Chris Sung

The Galaxy Tab’s here (7 inchers) in Korea have ear pieces. I see folks putting their faces to their tablets all the time making VoIP calls. Just sayin’.

    • Jake

From what I read, it’s not an earpiece. It’s a front-facing speaker in the spot where an earpiece would be if it were a phone. If this is a real leak (I’m not convinced that it is), I’m not crazy about the tablet looking like a phone, but I do like that the speaker is front-facing. That’s currently one of my biggest problems with most smartphones and tablets; the speaker is usually facing away from me.

    • TCStheSecond

maybe its not an ear piece but rather a speaker?

    • GazaIan

I wondered the same thing, then I remembered the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

  • TheMan876

The back looks like an HTC phone and the front looks like a Samsung phone

    • Butters619

The back looks like an upside down original iPhone.

      • Trevor

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw it!

  • http://twitter.com/mjnitz02 Matt Nitzken

It looks like a giant Phablet…. It reminds me of an extremely stretched out Galaxy Note. What are we supposed to do with an earpiece on a 7-inch device? I am super excited by the concept of a cheap and decent 7inch tablet directly from Google, but this isn’t exactly what I had in mind.

    • Bionic

      make calls with google voice

      • PixelDestiny

I sure hope so, and it should be very easy to hold with one in portrait due to the very thin bezel on those sides. The display is 3.6 inches on the shorter side, so I’d say it will be less than 4 inches across, back pocketers rejoice! So glad to finally get a leaked image. Also, white is good, we need more white gadgets!

  • http://jordanhotmann.com/ Jordan Hotmann

    Good looking tablet.

  • RedPandaAlex

So when are we going to have a wild speculation thread about what’s going to be in 4.1?

Also, makes sense to me that 4.1 would be JB. I don’t think there’s been a new nexus device launched without a new version of Android with a new name.

  • HerroMoto

So far are rumors pointing this to NOT be a 10.1 inch tab? :(

    • JoshGroff

Yep, that’s why I bought a LTE Xoom for now, plus I’d prefer the option of carrier data if I so need it.

    • Stew

Yes. most rumors point to the Asus one being 7 inches. There have been rumors here and there about a 10.1 inch from Samsung that’s also a Nexus

    • Bionic

there was NEVER a rumor saying it would be 10
