Liberty ROM 2.0 Released for DROIDX and 2

JRummy and Kejar dropped Liberty ROM 2.0 on us this morning for those of you that have not upgraded to Gingerbread or are willing to flash an SBF back to 2.3.340.  This new version includes a revamped theme by @davekover, new wallpapers, a tad bit of Blur for stability issues, and a crazy new Toolbox.  The previous versions of Liberty were top notch, so you can bet this will be too.

In order to get it right now though, you’ll have to donate $5 by purchasing the Liberty Toolbox Pro which will then download version 2.0 automatically.  If you aren’t down to drop $5, then just wait a couple of days for it to go fully-public.

Download Liberty Toolbox Pro.

*WILL NOT FLASH OVER GINGERBREAD. YOU HAVE TO SBF BACK TO 2.3.340.

Changes in 2.0:

- Redid some of the base of the ROM
– added some blur framework back which was causing battery and stability issues
– New default Liberty theme by Dave Kover
– A TON of changes to Liberty Toolbox. So much I can’t remember
– Updated wallpapers
– sysctl enabled by default. HUGE!
– Raised default minfree
– Set dalvik vm heap to 48m
– Add interactive and conservative governor support
– Redid init.d and cleaned up startup and other scripts
– Update busybox to v1.17.2
– Remove kang check script
– Enable cron schedular (Thanks IMosey On)
– Set default colors in Terminal Emulator to Liberty gold/yellow

Full support can be found at this thread.

I never thought id pay for the toolbox until now. Im currently running Verizon 2.2 SBF, due to some trouble i had yesterday; first with Liberty GB0.4 (dunno if thats the same as Liberty 2.0).

GB0.4 was AWESOME!!! Loved it! BUT, had to update baseband; and i screwed up my carriers 3G service (my carrier is Iusacell, mexico); I found a baseband zip udater that screwed my Liberty GB and sorta bricked my phone… i went through a HUGE ordeal to fix it. Including multiple SBFs and Wipes and a Stock Nandroid Backup and some other baseband.zip…. Good news is i now know EVERYTHING about my phone and now im not afraid of bricking it; as i know what to do… anyway; i just paid for the toolbox, to get the nightly builds.
again, im running Verizon SBF (thats system version 340);  Android 2.2 and WANT Liberty 2.0 (or GB0.4…. for Gingerbread!)

Also tried a GB build called Monster…. AWFULL!!! It was a Verison-filled build with ALL blur…. SLUGGISH!

Ive been using Liberty 1.5 for almost 6 months, and it was definately the best 2.2 out there. Hope Liberty’s GB will work fine on my baseband…

Droid X…150 bucks with a 2 yr contract, downloading liberty tool box…5 bucks, installing custom rom that restores pictures of your ex g/f from 7 mths ago so your new g/f can see them and say oh honey i loved seeing your ex g/f’s ass :|….priceless

  • http://profiles.google.com/bsbabcock Scott Babcock

Liberty GB initial 0.1 revision is out.. Available through the donate toolbox.. I flashed from froyo to gb liberty in a few minutes and it’s running great as an initial offering. Smoothest rom I’ve run yet on the DX. Bravo! Looks like GB, acts like Liberty.. Blurless, Bloatless.. Nothing but goodness. Not bad for a rom that admittedly “still needs work”.

  • Jeeper_Slick

Looks good, but I love my Rooted GB on my Droid 2. Overclocked to 1.2 I get consistent 2100’s in Quadrant.

  • Skyskioc

purchaced the toolbox and installed. This thing is the shiznet ! Works like a champ. Thanks JRummy ! Props to you and the team. Thanks…

Another Liberated droid X from Ptown (Placentia)

This ROM is flawed and Jrummy won’t respond to my problems. I paid 5 bucks for at least an answer on a simple question. After I load the rom Liberty 2.0.1, then open liberty toolbox, and load a cool theme like Liberated HC, afterwards i start getting all kinds of force closures. for com.android.system, swype. And the Liberty tool in the settings menu wont work…. Forget it!!! I am back on Team Black Hat Ginger Blur with the Gingercomb theme and it is stable and fast!! Sorry Liberty, to little to late.

  • Mcneilmoe

this rom is well, FAST! It is only based on froyo though! when the gb version comes out, the speed will shock us all!

For everyone, the fix for the FC error on Liberty settings is easy.

Go back to the market, redownload the donate version, and run it. When you do it will inform you of the 2.0.1 patch. Check back up ROM but NOT “wipe data and cache”. Takes a few minutes and you will be back up and running with no more error.

ALL HAIL TO ME!!! LOL. Actually, Android Central Forums…. ;)

  • Anonymous

Keeps force closing when Liberty Settings are selected.

    Anybody got a fix suggestion?

  • Anonymous

Donate and download but not install?!? Umm ok. Can I have some money too?

I have the donate 2.0 version. Install went well. Very snappy and transitions like a dream. You quickly get a feel for optimization on this ROM, which is my first foray.

Anyone else having force close with Liberty settings? I really wanted to get a full taste but I guess we have to wait until its out of beta.

How will the final version be installed? Will it be a patch or will we have to SBF and start from scratch?

  • Anonymous

Installation went will with the donate version. Very snappy, quickly transitions, and you quickly get a feel for optimization.
Liberty settings force close every time. Hope there is a fix for that soon as I would like to get a full feel for this ROM, which is my first one on the Droid.
Anyone else having a similar experience. How will we be able to upgrade to the final 2.0 out of beta?

  • fmspat

So if you flashed liberty over GBrooted and you are in a boot loop like I am…How can you get RSDlite to recognize your device to move back to froyo?

  • Dudehonestlywtf2

will the honeycomb theme work for these?

  • Tjborrell

I downloaded Liberty and having some troubles. Is there anyway to take off liberty and get my phone back as before downloading liberty?

  • Anonymous

Damn it! I probably would’ve held off on rooted gb if I had seen this. Now that I’m on rooted deodexed overclocked gingerbread I’m not leaving! 2,000+ quadrants @ 1.25mghz is too bitchin’ to make me go backwards.
I love liberty though good job guys!

where is the GB Liberty come out….

  • http://profiles.google.com/bleulin Bruce Lin

    Not GB?

  • Pchpoochie

No not changing from gingerbread loving it on dx. Gingerbread, shell new launcher yes I paid 14 dollars but I’m so happy wit my dx

OK now…i had the gingerbread and had nothing but probs with it..i had to keep rebooting my phone cause i kept loosing internet connection. weird….liberty no probs what so ever!!!! none. With that said i have the liberty honeycomb theme.zip file installed( great theme) do i have to uninstall it before i put 2.0 on my phone…looking foward to installl…

  • Traviswaller7976

    hooked it up!

  • http://twitter.com/Tojiro Brandon Jones

I absolutely loved Liberty 1.0 and 1.5, as they represented the first time I felt my phone was finally living up to it’s potential. That said, Gingerbread has given me about the same performance and better stability, (not to mention, it’s freaking Gingerbread!) so I’m very reluctant to leave it for a Froyo based ROM.

As soon as you guys have a version of Liberty based on GB though, I’m all over it! Please make it happen!

    • Harrisons004

      couldnt of said it better.

  • Anonymous

Does the toolbox come with like a file manager and stuff similar to jrummys absolute system? I’m still on an old ROM so I don’t know if he still uses that?.

  • http://twitter.com/3DFigueroa Rodney Figueroa

Gonna be hopping off of GB to Liberty 2.0. Love the options. love the customization. I’ll move forward when GB is finalized.

  • Anonymous

Now that I’m on Gingerbread, it feels like I would just be going backwards. Good job though.

  • Rickerbilly

I am on Liberty 2.0 now, loving it. Worth 5 bux.

Little new to the rooting thing….I flashed the new rooted gb…and had liberty rom before that what exactly do I have to do (please explain it to me cause I am a noob and don’t exactly know how to use and)

  • Dinofan01

Anybody know what contacts/ dialer this rom is using? Thats one of the few things that keep me on APEX other than my theme.

  • Stang30290

If I have a nandroid backup of my 2.3.340 can I just go back to that from gb and then flash liberty.

  • Sean27030

I’D LOVE TO GET THIS IF I KNEW IT WOULD FIX THE ISSUES I HAD WITH LIBERTY 1.5… TONS OF RANDOM REBOOTS… NO HDMI SUPPORT… AND THE CRAP DIALER REINITIALIZE THE SCREEN AND WOULD CUT YOU OFF IF YOU TILTED YOUR HANDSET SIDE WAYS LIKE YOU’D HAVE IT HOLDING IT WITH YOUR SHOULDER WHILE TALKING…

HEY SEAN I GOT A GOOD IDEA THAT MIGHT WORK FOR YA! TURN OFF YOUR AUTO ROTATE FUNCTION. IT COMES PRE INSTALLED BUT YOU CAN EASILY DISABLE IT SO ITS PRETTY KEWL. ..

        • Sean27030

Nope.. not an auto rotate issue… just tried… try yourself.. make a call cover the proximity then tilt the phone back to horizontal the screen will come back on.. if i’m not mistaken this is the same dialer as on the OG Droid… had the same issue with it…

          • Anonymous

That’s never happened to me before must be some temp bug that might go away.

    • http://profiles.google.com/chad.walber Chad Walber

Sean, Try making sure that you are at the 2.3.340 before you install Liberty. I had all the issues you jsut described, and then found out that for some reason I wasn’t at the 2.3.340.

      • Sean27030

Thanks man.. I’ll give it a try… i was coming from Apex 1.3 did the wipe and all that may have been an issue with that… I appreciate the attempt at helpful advice instead of heckling.. :)

    • mikex

I had the same problem with 1.5 but found setting the proximity to always be on in the settings helped that. I just didn’t like the dialer or any of the options as much as the blur dialer.

    • Guest

If I remember correctly… Blurless ROMs = No HDMI support.

  • droydhead

I’m switching.. I’m bored with stock GB already.

  • fartbubbler

so if I’m on Liberty 1.5, I don’t need to wipe and clear cache? I just download 2.0 from the market??

    • SoDroid

      Wiping is still recommended

  • http://www.facebook.com/ThornfullessRose Devin Jones

Nah dont feel like going back. especially with all this gingerbread goodness i have already.

Can’t wait. I loved Tranquility 3.7. Was the best ROM for battery life and performance.

I don’t know why I never tried it but that seems reassuring and something to look forward to for GB.

    we need benchmarks for this!

    GB leak Vs Liberty 2.0!

    • John

why? do benchmarks REALLY make a big enough deal to your day to day phone usage for it to matter which u use?

not trying to be a smart ass, honestly asking..

      • Interstellarmind

it provides a nice comparison tool between both ROMs. I consider myself a power user, so yes, it does matter.

also, before i get flamed: i am well aware that quadrant benchmarking is criticized for being easily exploitable. but when comparing two ROMs on the same device, i think it provides a nice equal comparison (two different devices… different story)

        • Bkcharter

I don’t know how to post screen shots but I had liberty 1.5 and at 1350mhz I would average 1500-1600. So 2202 on same overclock with GB is quite a jump. Can’t say on liberty 2.0 but I can’t imagine it being that high. Aside from possibly meanilngless b.enchmarks, GB feels smoother, flash is better(still not perfect) , and my browser seems to load pages faster. Battery is noticeably better and my phone runs cooler.

    no love for Droid 2 Globals, the forgotten phone D';

    • Anonymous

Pretty sure that phone was forgotten a week after release. Why would anyone make 3 different versions of the same phone (besides the money) for any reason. I knew that was coming so I stayed away from it completely and happy again with my Droid X all thanks to LIBERTY!!

    HELL YEAH!

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve0mac Steven Cornea

sorry, stickin with GB, maybe in time liberty

    • Anonymous

After going to GB there is no going back for me. GB feels faster than Liberty 1.5 so I won’t be trying 2.0.

I also wonder if this is their Droid X swan song since they own Thunderbolts now.

I will download and donate, but will not be installing. This is the first time that I have owned an android phone and was perfectly happy with stock. Liking Gingerbread, new Blur, and Blur’s Launcher. Who would have thunk it!!!

    • http://profiles.google.com/nicholas.foote Nicholas Foote

I had Liberty 1.5 but it was acting odd. Freezing a lot and rebooting itself often. I got the rooted GB rom and everything that bugged me about the FroyoBlur has been fixed by GingerBlur (except the sometimes laggy lockscreen). When they come out with a Liberty release built around GB then I will revisit and re-evaluate. Til then, Gingerblur is actually good.

  • Anonymous

That was a short lived run on stock GB. While Blur was definitely a step up, I think I’ll side step it all together for now.

  • http://twitter.com/thmcdonald1 TJ McDonald

Why can’t you flash from gingerbread? I thought the deodexed and rooted GB were there so we could have ROMs?

    • goblueboy

you can’t because they have been working on liberty 2.0 for a while now. gingerbread just released and they have had no time to make a rom for it yet. it’s only been like a day since we have had deodexed. do you think roms are just made an in a day like rome?

    • Anonymous

Yes, but only Gingerbread Roms. We had this same issue when we upgraded to the 2.3.340 Leak.

    • Anonymous

Gingerbread has a different kernel, and possibly a different radio than Froyo. Liberty is a Froyo only rom, at least for now, and thus you can simply load a Froyo system when you phone has a Gingerbread kernel/radio. Well, you certainly can load one, but you’ll most likely end up flashing an sbf.

Looks like I’m switching back to Liberty from Apex!

    • Nemesis099

Same here although I’m debating on testing out GB.

    • SoDroid

How is apex? Been thinking about trying it out, I just love liberty so much!

      • Anonymous

My first ROM was Apex 1.3 then switched to liberty 1.5 when that was released. Apex has always been smooth and quick for me, minimal force closes. When I was running liberty 1.5 Apex 1.4 was released so I switched back to Apex solely for the fact that liberty 1.5 would force close or feeze up on me multiple times each day. Other than the force closes I preferred Liberty over Apex, I just couldn’t stand the bugs Liberty 1.5 had. Liberty 2.0 seems to have those problems worked out. I’ve only been running 2.0 since yesterday but so far its fantastic, no major bugs so far, easier to customize than Apex. I really love the Liberty toolbox. I think I’ll be sticking with Lib for a while
