Well, you have people that are on at&t and at present they can’t use the appstore. You have people crazy enough to buy products like the Motorola i1 which can install the appstore. You have the people too stupid to figure out how to allow “not market apps.” You have the crowd that refuses to set up a 1-Click account because they don’t want to “pay” for their free app.

So there is definitely a group that would download the ad supported free version, either because they are stuck… or stupid.

While it’s “DRM” leaves a bit to be desired, I find not only its UI far more pleasing than the standard Market but as you indicated the sheer number of promotions they have been running since its rollout, and now with their fantastic music cloud, I don’t see the reason to keep dousing Amazon with Haterade.

Which is why I choose to support the official Android Market. Amazon did a great thing with their app store and their large payment to Rovio to give them exclusivity and take off the ads to Angry Birds Rio. If people want it they can get it, but it isnt that simple. You have to download something, download the game, and keep the store installed to play the games. Whereas the Market comes on all major android phones and is known to most people. The ads really dont bother me to be honest and sometimes perk my interest. If you want to get it from Amazon thats fine, I respect that. Then let me also choose to get it from the Android Market, no exclusivity bullcrap.

Free AD FREE app…make that appS. I’ve read people who write that they don’t like running Appstore for Android to play a game…you don’t. You just have to have it in your app drawer (and how is this different from having Market in the drawer? It isn’t). As for long download times…not sure what their deal is there. The appS I’ve downloaded took no more than 5 minutes at the most. Competition is a good thing. Believe it or not. And I’m loving Swiftkey, a paid app, which by the way, I got for free.
