Rooting Your DROID X? Here are some Warnings.

by: | posted 07.23.10 | DROIDX, News, Root

Rooting instructions for the Droid X are out there and you can conquer the task today, but there are some things you need to be aware of before doing so.  One of the biggest reasons for gaining superuser access to your DX is to remove all of the bloatware that Verizon and Motorola forced upon you and we can’t blame you.  Just be warned that not all of this stuff can be removed.  You also should know that there is not a way to make a proper backup at this time since we don’t currently have a custom recovery option.

Here is a running list of warnings that has been started up…

1. First off I am posting this for reasons that were obvioulsy not too obvious.

2. If you chose to delete anything other than something that can be downloaded from the market, YOU took that risk. You have potentially just bricked your device.

3. DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING THAT HAS “BLUR” IN ITS FILE NAME.

4. DO NOT try to flash a custom recovery via Rom Manager then wonder why your phone is stuck with a cool new Motorola logo.

5. This thread will be updated very frequently, before posting questions and what not, just post your problem, no questions please, I will be using this to help as many of you as possible.

6. Most importantly do not mess with the framework right now, there is many $600 papers weights laying around now.

7. DO NOT TOUCH BACK UP ASSISTANCE UNLESS ITS WINDY IN YOUR HOUSE OR OFFICE AND YOU NEED A PAPER WEIGHT.

If you have anything to add, please let us know!  And be careful!

How to: Take Screenshots with the DROID X

by: | posted 07.22.10 | Tips

This guide is almost exactly the same as our guide for taking screenshots on your Droid 1 without rooting, but wanted to make sure all of the new Droid X owners out there knew the process.

The tutorial we’ll walk through will first of all help you install the Android SDK which enables you to perform all kinds of fun without being rooted.  The most most important though, might be the ability to take shots of your beautiful home screens.

Follow the entire process after the jump!

DROID X Orders Shipping Early, Today Actually

by: | posted 07.22.10 | News

If you missed out on the first batch of Droid X orders last Thursday and were stuck in limbo with a 7/23 or 8/3 shipping date, you’ll be pleased to hear that many orders actually shipped today and will arrive tomorrow.  We’ve heard from a half dozen readers today who all received shipping confirmation that their DX is on its way!

Nothing better than adding to the 2,300 people who voted yesterday as rockin’ a Droid X!

Cheers to everyone who sent this in!

Video: A Dirty Unboxing of the DROID X

by: | posted 07.22.10 | Videos

Luckily we spared you from the 10,000th Droid X “unboxing” video once we got ours, but there is still one you may not have seen that is worth at least 4 minutes of your time.  Revision 3 has put together a new series called “Unboxing P*rn” that is actually pretty funny.  Like I said, you can turn it off after the 4 minute mark…(SAFE FOR WORK!)

“Well that’s OK for…a screen.  We’re talkin’ about the screen right?”  Hah.

How to: Boot into Recovery on the DROID X

by: | posted 07.21.10 | Root, Tips

This little trick probably won’t be used much until the Android hacking/developing crowd gains root access to our new Droid X, but you might as well know about it now.  Practice up people!  And no, this won’t brick your phone.

Instructions…

1.  Turn your phone off.
2.  Hold down “Home” and press “Power” until the Motorola logo appears.
3.  Release  ”Power” and continue to hold “Home” until an exclamation appears.
4.  Release “Home” and press the “Search” button once.
5.  Your phone will now enter recovery.

To get out of it, simply use your volume up and down buttons until “reboot system now” is highlighted and then press the camera button.

Simple enough?

Verizon Responds to DROID X Screen Issues, Not Widespread

by: | posted 07.21.10 | News

There was a minor outcry for a “displaygate” after a few new Droid X devices started showing up online with flickering screens, but Motorola and Verizon actually have some class and have jumped all over the issue.  Apparently less than 1 in a 1,000 DX’s have run into screen problems, but no need to worry as the problem has been fixed…

“Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of DROID X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display. Motorola has resolved the issue and is continuing to ship the phones. Any consumer who experiences a flickering or banding display should contact a Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless.”

Any of our readers experience the issue?  If so, were you able to get a replacement immediately or do you now have to wait a week or so for the next shipment?
