Quick Tip: Long Press in Flash for Full Screen Videos

by: | posted 06.18.10 | Tips

If you’ve rooted your Droid and installed a Froyo ROM plus one of the Flash 10.1 betas, then we’ve got a little trick for you.  While watching a Flash video on any website, you can long press on it, prompting an option to go to full screen.  As you can see from the sceenie above, the grey box in the top left of the video is what it should look like.  And if you decide you don’t actually want full screen, you even get an “X” to close out.  Sweet right?

Any other Flash or Froyo tips out there that we can’t live without?

Cheers Aleks!

Tip: Market App Issue in Froyo

by: | posted 06.12.10 | DROID, Root, Tips

We’ve already had 2 Team Chaos Froyo themes posted this week and it looks like we’ve got another gem from them.  Bgill55 posted a Froyo market fix the other day that should allow your Droid to see all apps available.  It is my understanding that this fix simply tweaks the build.prop to trick the market a little.  This is an easy one…

Download: market_fix_bgill55.zip

Instructions:

1.  Download the market_fix_bgill55.zip file to your SD card.
2.  Open ROM Manager and choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
3.  Navigate to the location of the file you just downloaded and tap on it.
4.  No need to backup/wipe data and cache, so press “OK.”
5.  Phone will boot into recovery and flash the market fix file.
6.  Done!

Tip: How to Bypass Android Activation Screen on Motorola Droid

by: | posted 06.10.10 | Tips

A reader just sent over this tip and I’ve got to say, this is amazing.  I had heard of this maybe once or twice before, but completely forgot about it and also assumed it did not work.  Apparently I was wrong!

So here’s the tip…

If you are ever stuck at your activation screen and want to bypass it, you can press the 4 corners of the screen in a clockwork fashion and your device will jump straight to your desktop.  Amazing right?

And why is this useful?

Well it’s useful to anyone that doesn’t want to actually activate a Droid through Verizon.  There are developers out there who work on devices like the Droid but don’t use it as their main line.  I’ve also run into a situation where after flashing a new ROM, I was unable to re-activate because of an issue with Verizon’s activation service.  With a trick like this, at least you can get back into your phone to use wifi, play with apps, check email, etc.

Tip: Froyo Market Now Suggests Apps

by: | posted 06.09.10 | Apps, Tips

As you can see from the two screenies above, Froyo being on the left and 2.1 on the right, one of the new features of Android 2.2 is app suggestions for misspelled words in the Market.  Pretty handy right?  I’m actually surprised it took this long seeing as Google is known for well, being a top notch search engine.

Any other tips out there for the Froyo leak we gave to you yesterday?

Cheers Scott!

Tip: Use Chrome to Phone in Froyo

by: | posted 06.08.10 | Apps, Tips

Remember all of those amazing new Android 2.2 features we were introduced to at Google I/O?  One of them being Chrome to Phone, which allows you to send directions, URLs and even files straight to your device without connecting it?  Well, now that we have a full leaked version of Froyo in the wild and available for download, you can finally take advantage of such brilliance.

Instructions…

1.  Visit the Chrome to Phone project site.
2.  If you are using Google Chrome, install the extension they have into your browser.
3.  If you use Firefox as a browser, install this add-on.
4.  Download the Chrome to Phone app to your phone and install it.
5.  Open the Chrome to Phone app, and select “register device.”
6.  Once it finishes, you are done.
7.  Now navigate to a website on your Chrome browser, and tap the cell phone extension button.
8.  It will likely ask you to login to a Google account. Login with whatever acct you registered.
9.  Link sent!

Pretty sweet right?  Are you starting to realize the potential this app and extension have?

Additional Froyo Tips for Motorola Droid

by: | posted 06.07.10 | DROID, Root, Tips

In the video walk-through we did of Android 2.2 on the Motorola Droid earlier, we failed to touch on a couple of shortcuts or features that definitely need to be mentioned.  There are just so many new tweaks and minor adjustments made to Froyo that it’s hard to grab them all at once.  We seem to be finding new gems almost every hour!

Found these tips yet?

  1. New auto-brightness feature on power widget
  2. Multiple Gmail calendars
  3. New camera software
  4. Threaded download history
  5. Show numbers with keyboard up-swipe
  6. More recent shortcuts (long press on “home”)

What else have we missed?
