Rumor: LG to Unveil G Pad Tablet at IFA, Could Sport 8.3″ 1080p Display and Quad-Core CPU

LG logo

LG could keep the “G” ball rolling at this year’s IFA, with the launch of a yet-to-be-unveiled tablet called the G Pad. According to the site Tech Blog out of Greece, the G Pad could feature an extremely crisp 8.3″ Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, 2GB of RAM, a quad-core CPU (no word on the maker) and a bezel/width so thin you can still fit the larger-sized tablet in your back pocket.

No images of the rumored tablet have hit the web yet, but its unveiling should take place in Berlin early next month. We can probably expect to see additional leaks hit the web before that, once we get closer to IFA. It’s going to be a fun month.

Any hopefuls for an LG tablet?

Why does everyone complain about the Optimus UI? I like it and its very similar to Touchwiz which many ppl her claim to enjoy.

    • Rithvik Rao

      THE LAG.

      JUST KILLS ME.

      • Ryan Hansele

I have the G Pro and there is no lag

        • Rithvik Rao

          I have a friend who’s a journalist…he showed me the G2.

Within five minutes of using it, full freeze requiring a restart.

And also the whole thing is ugly, at least when compared to a beautiful UI like in stock Android. Just look at the G2 notification tray if you still aren’t convinced. :)

          • Ryan Hansele

The pre-production model which he used had glitches. Just like anything else. If you like stock root and ROM it. Im sure there will be dev support for this beast.

          • Rithvik Rao

Yeah, very true. He was running the newest software release, same thing they showed to the press and that will be reviewed. I just can’t bear stock though… if I get this device it would be rooted before it was powered on for the first time.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Man being like Touch Wiz is NOT a compliment.

      • Ryan Hansele

I didnt think so but i see so many comments of people on here who like it.

        • Rithvik Rao

Some people do, but I think a lot of the hard core people including the DL guys hate how too much is packed into it. This absolutely kills storage space (read: Galaxy S4), and adds lag.

          • Ryan Hansele

Ya thats true there is a lot. I believe that in the settings you can change atleast what is shown in the notification bar to de-clutter it.

          • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

I kinda like it, I mean some of the enhancements are really appreciated but it seems like Samsung just threw every thing they could think of into TouchWiz without thinking, “Will the consumers actually use this?” Just look at the camera, do you really need a million different crappy filters and effects or could you live with half a dozen or so really cool ones?

  • Rithvik Rao

I’ll bet this will be an 8974 device with crazy high end specs and software making it lag anyway.

    EDIT: 8974 = Snapdragon 800

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

stock android and we’ll talk about it.

    • Daniel Walsh

No way it has stock Android. This is LG we’re talking about.

      • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

        Google Play Edition?

        • Rithvik Rao

          For a tablet?

Ehh…not so sure, especially right after the N7 comes out.

Who knows, we may be surprised!

        • sagisarius

I keep hoping they start doing that.

    • Rithvik Rao

More like TouchWiz minus the features you may actually use, with extra lag on top.

      • TheRealCBONE

        Haw!

      • turdbogls

honestly, my friends Optimus G lags less than my other friends S4. While LG’s skin may not be great, it sure lags less than touchwiz.

still wish they would go mostly stock android, slap their lockscreen and camera app into the phone and call it a day.

        • Franklin Ramsey

Keep in mind, lag can also be from any of those apps they have loaded on their phone that load at startup. The lag on either of your friend’s phones might be from those.

          • turdbogls

its no secret (if you pay attention to reviews) that the S4 has Lag here and there….and that is from touchwiz. But I know what you are saying….we mostly have the same apps installed on all devices, my Gnex and the Optimus G lag less often than that S4 does.

          • Franklin Ramsey

I’m just pointing out people often forget apps they add (and widgets) can cause lag sometimes. I know my Dad is always complaining about how his S4 starts lagging and I remind him to go through his Apps to see if any are the run on start up variety that he doesn’t need and downloaded to try out. You would think I wouldn’t have to keep reminding him since he is a Network Admin too, but ah well. I tend to keep having to remind the guys I work with too.

        • hkklife

The carriers would NEVER go for a store full of nearly-stock Android “clones”. Then they’d have to try too hard to compete on price, service, and network coverage/performance! But I still agree.
Agreed on LG’s skin as well. My boss’ G Pro lags a lot less than my S3 and that’s with almost no tweaking or optimizations on my part of it. And his Pro is a little less laggy than another GS4 we also have in most tasks (bear in mind that both of those LGs are nearly stock software loads with just 1-2GB of internal storage in use with user data and apps whereas my S3 is heavily loaded and stock)

  • Joshua Bailey

    Nexus 8!

    • Rithvik Rao

      No way brah!

      • Joshua Bailey

Lol. I know. It would be sweet, though. 8 inches is the sweet spot…

        • Rithvik Rao

          Agreed.

But you need to try the new Nexus 7… IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL!

          • Joshua Bailey

            Watching it now… Hilarious

        • Franklin Ramsey

          That, is what she said.

          • Joshua Bailey

Geez it took like 16 hours for this response…I expect more.

          • Franklin Ramsey

I am sorry the others let you down. Maybe they are all larger than 8 inches so don’t have that sweet spot?

    • sagisarius

would love an 8 or 9 inch nexus

  • Tyler Durden

And no bezels? How am I supposed to hold it?

    • YARDIE87

Seriously… Tired of people yapping bout bezels & i$h… You’ll continue to buy the products regardless

      • Tyler Durden

I don’t care about bezels, but on a big device, I need a way to hold it. Since it gets used in landscape mostly.

        • Rithvik Rao

Yeah, form factor on a tablet does not decide anything for me. It can’t be held in hand or put in a regular sized pocket anyway.

I’m all for ergonomics on these huge devices.

        • hkklife

I personally use my N7 90% of the time in portrait mode due to its reduced width and for ease of typing and e-book reading. Only when gaming or video watching do I rotate it. But I do agree, 8.x”, especially on a 16:9 ratio device, is nearly perfect. I am still stunned why no manufacturers other than Amazon, Samsung and junk no-name brands are on the 8″ to 9″ bandwagon.

The single biggest thing I’d like to add to my N7 is another 3/4 to 1″ of screen real estate.

    • XphoneTroll

      With your hands :-)

      • Rithvik Rao

        But…but…the screen will get dirty!

  • Tyler Durden

I’ll take a Nexus 10 with Snapdragon 800. Please. Thanks.

    • Michael Nyitrai

Agreed, nexus 10 2013 edition or bust

      • Rithvik Rao

I really do hope Samsung doesn’t make the Nexus 10 this year… probably will find some way to stick the Exynos 5 Octa in there.

        JUST GIMME MY SNAP800!

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Asus is making it. Samsung rumor is dead.

          • Rithvik Rao

Possibly. The thing is, the Asus thing was a rumor. The Samsung thing supposedly was said by Sundar Pichai himself, which gives it a lot more credibility.

          • xpyroxcorex

unless samsung pissed off google and things have changed since he stated that

          • Rithvik Rao

            You’ve got a point.

    • Godzilla

Agreed. Im not a fan of bigger tablets but it would be a Nexus for sure.

I quit engaging at shoprite and currently I build $35h – $80h…how? i am operating online! My work did not precisely build Pine Tree State happy therefore i made a decision to require an opportunity on one thing new… when four years it absolutely was therefore onerous to quit my day job however currently i could not be happier. Heres what I do, http://www.Pro67.com

  • Daniel Walsh

Who cares, but the Nexus 7 bezels are HUGE. Also First

    • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

The N7’s bezels may be huge but they’re perfect size for gripping onto the device with one hand (the bezel keeps your palm from hitting the screen).

      • Michael Chediak

        I agree..for landscape use it’s perfect.

      • Rithvik Rao

Agreed, just look at the iPad mini — very similar size, save for the increased width.

My N7 looked ugly the first day, now I think it is just perfect.

        • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

Originally the N7 seemed like it would be a horrible device for watching videos / movies but after using it for a while I found it to be amazing because a 720p movie would fill up the entire screen instead of like on the iPad mini where you end up with huge black bars on the top and bottom! I haven’t used the new N7 but I would imagine the experience would be similar.

          • Rithvik Rao

            Ditto, with the 2013 N7.

  • silver_arrow

Good. I would like to see more 8′ tablets that are not Samsung made. Also good to see LG getting back into the tablet game

    • Rithvik Rao

8 foot tablets? I didn’t know Samsung screen sizes went up THAT high.

    • Heath Canterbury

Also new this month is the Pipo M7 Pro ($255) — available through T ablet Sprint which for roughly the same price as the new Nexus 7, features a much larger 8.9-inch display with 1900×1200 screen resolution, a Quad core processor, along with built-in GPS navigation — and is packed with features that compare to the new Nexus, and offers premium speakers, WiFi with both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz frequencies for greater connection — and a 3G HSPA+ version is available for $25 more and an Android phone SIM card maybe used interchangeably with both phone and tablet.

T ablet Sprint also offers a new Miracast TV adapter($39), similar to Google Chromecast – but with a lot more features and performs much more like Apple Airplay technology.

      • Jason Bittner

Did i just read a commercial?

        • Franklin Ramsey

          Certainly seems that way.

          • TeresaWaters1

Check it out and read a few reviews — Pipo M7 Pro is a pretty nice deal

      • sagisarius

I’m intrigued… but that sounded a lot like spam… useful spam, but spam.
