Toshiba Refreshes Their Excite Tablet Line, Features Tegra 4 and Android 4.2

Toshiba

Last night, Toshiba unveiled their new lineup of refreshed Excite tablets. In total, there are three new models, the Excite Pro, Excite Write and Excite Pure. Both the Pro and Write models feature a glorious 2560 x 1600 PixelPure display, as well as being powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 processor, a chip that we are happily starting to see be adopted by manufacturers. As for the Pure tablet, it runs last year’s Tegra 3 chip in order to meet a low $299 price tag, while also offering exceptional performance.

All three tablets will come out of the factory running Android 4.2+, but both of the higher-end models will be equipped with 8MP back-facing cameras, while the lower Pure device features a 3MP shooter. They feature microSD slots, micro HDMI out and stereo speaker setups.

In terms of pricing and availability for each tablet, it goes like this – The Pure, priced at $299.99, goes on sale through select retailers on June 25, alongside the Pro ($499.99) and the Write ($599.99). National availability will begin sometime in early July.

Word to the wise, if you buy these, you will NOT be seeing any OTAs for 4.3, KLP, or other Android OS updates. You will need to buy a new tablet to get the new OS.

You might, my Toshiba tablet went from 3.1 to 3.2 to 4.0, but you’re right, their updates take forever and end quickly. Perfect for my parents though, they don’t like change…

If the new Transformer Infinity comes in at $399 ($499 with keyboard) then there is no point to buying these

There is also a brand new tablet out with keyboard that runs dual Android and Windows. You can also plug it into a monitor as well

the Write model looks really interesting (if a little pricey).

    So…what’s that stylus all about?

    • Mr E

the write one has an active stylus digitizer like the samsung notes

Oh. Strange they didn’t mention that in the post.
