  • So in What order do i do i do this to get Rooted GingerBread on my Droid X STOCK ROM, Rooted.

  • Awesomedoscious

It was my first Rom and it was incredible. I’m really liking Gingerbread.

  • Pengy1133

is there anyway to get gingerbread without rooting the phone??

  • Anonymous

So I have been rocking out my droid x with gingerbread for the past week. I really liked all the new features but the motoblur completely kills the performance. I have a task manager and even after i kill all the apps, i still have 80 mbs left. I don’t even have a lot of apps installed, 4 at the most. I really despise motoblur. I am reverting back to froyo and maybe installing liberty 2.0 or fission. I can’t wait till there is a motoblur-less gingerbread rom.

    • Anonymous

oh what a difference having no motoblur makes. Fission ROM FTW!

  • Well I’m guessing it won’t work on a Milestone 2….

  • is the Gmail syncing for you guys post gingerbread on the X…?

  • Chris

It just crashes on launch on my HTC EVO 4G.

  • Regulator

The droid 2 download file link doesnt work. PLEASE FIX

  • Tyler Cunning

someone needs to port this whole rom and theme to the htc g2 PLEASE because i would love to have this and, the new motoblur quick text message reply thingy.

  • Dont know how much trouble I could get in for re posting this but here you guys go for people with broken links.

  • Kraz_jon

I cannot get any of this to work. I was once rooted and did the entire process for froyo, but was having major lag issues a week ago so did a factory reset of the droid x. I thought the one post said I could get it installed without rooting but nothing I did worked at all. rsd lite was the closest and it spit out an error before it did anything as well. thankfully I havent bricked it through this process lol. ugh.

Need a simple and too-tired-to-function free step by step from stock froyo to basic gingerbread!

  • the file download links are either invalid or in violation of Megaupload’s terms of service. What a tease!

  • Dratera

I tried twice, and each time it sent my phone into Bootloader 30.04 after rebooting…. what am I doing wrong?

  • TanookiTravis

So I made the upgrade and I have 2.3.3 on my Droid X. I’m running LauncherPro, not sure if that matters, and I have the data-syncing icon on the notification bar at all times. Is that icon always going to be there in 2.3, like the WiFi or 3G icons, or do I now have an app that’s constantly syncing? Thanks guys.

  • any ideas if there is another site to download GB

  • Wamz

Anyone have a mirror of this download? It seems to have been removed from the site.

  • Kennis

Is anyone else having problems with their keyboard lights not working ? Since switching to 2.3.3 my Droid 2 keyboard lights, as well as the menu, and home buttons on front, only work about 25% of the time. I don’t get it. I love the Gingerbread, my phone went from 1380’s on Quadrant to 1580’s. Im very happy except for this backlight issue. Helllllp

  • jjcoons

I’m confused.. Can I download this on my D2 WITHOUT being rooted? Or do I need to root first.?

  • I really don’t feel like reinstalling everything. Too many apps and customizations at this point. I’ll wait for the official update this time.

  • Kyle55x

If you want you can go and use the rooted zip. Thats what I did.

how can i get rid of this

  • I am interested in installing. I have only installed ROMs twice, but the only thing holding me back is the pain and agony of reinstalling all my apps and setting up all my settings again. Is there a way I can get a backup of my phone currently and just recover it onto the new ROM?

  • will this be coming to the motorola cliq 2 since it has the exact same specs as the droid x and droid 2 ?

  • Charles

Is anyone having a problem with the led notification not working for text messages?

  • digsoreos

It still has the timestamp bug!!! If you use an SMS backup app, incoming messages may not get backed up as they will appear to have arrived hours in the past. One message I just received shows that it “arrived” 5 hours ago. On the phone, it will display the correct time. However, if you back up SMS/MMS messages with an app like SMS Backup+ it will show the message as arriving at whatever the time was in Greenwich Mean Time. This seems like a simple enough fix. Not sure why it wasn’t fixed. Maybe it will be in the official release?

    • If you look Easy SMS fixed this, check the settings for “motorola timestamp offset correction”.

      • digsoreos

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, that app must not be compatible with this
leak as it isn’t showing up in the market.

  • so i backed up cleared cache and factory reset before installing this and after rebooting my phone ended up being stuck booting into the bootloader. i tried reflashing the sbf file with rsd lite but the instalation wont go through rsd lite doesnt shw any error messages but the display n my phone does. any one have any suggestions on a fix?

  • Tamarick013

    Can this be undone

  • gdubs

This might be a stupid question but can I just drop the file onto the SD card and install it or will the Droid X just brick itself?

  • digsoreos

Does anyone know if they added the screen capture feature that was rumored? It would let you take a screen shot of your DX’s screen without having to connect it to your computer and the SDK.

  • 11knives

Not sure you guys are aware but TBH has posted a new version with root already established.

  • Buckgrad

Went to Gingerbread yesterday with no problem, except…

The sync arrows (non-animated) stay on the notification bar and won’t go away. Also, battery drain is fast. I’ve noticed several places online that this is common if you don’t wipe data/cache before you install the update. True? If so, is there a way of wiping after new installation has occured? Is this the same as “factory reset?” Sorry…but I’m new to doing anything other than what the phone came with–still learning. Oh, mine is a Droid X if that makes a difference. Thanks!!

    • Buckgrad

Took a chance and did the factory reset on the X. It worked–no more sync arrows on the notification bar. Google is downloading all of my apps; my settings are all there; and I’m still on 2.3.3. Thanks everyone for your help…

  • Duffman

Pretty awesome stuff! Took me a little bit to figure out how to load this on to my phone but Im glad I did! Thanks forthe tip and i encourage everyone to fire this baby up on their D2 or X!

  • Is it works with Motorola Milestone 2 ?

  • Deple2005

my Droid 2 was up to version 2.3. And when activities require active devices, I do not live in America, then I need to do. I’m in Vietnam. Anyone help me?

  • Having a bit of trouble here. Im in the clockwork recovery menu, I select ‘install zip from sdcard’ and the screen goes black for a minute then back to the clockwork menu.

  • Chris

I am loving this! Everything just makes so much sense! So happy I found this

  • Emily

Motorola email is not a million times better than stock Google email app. You can scroll up/down and left/right at the same time! what a novelty….

    • Emily

And you can pinch zoom in and out. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW

    • digsoreos

You can scroll up/down and left/right with the Gmail app, too. But, you can’t pinch zoom in and out with the Gmail app like Emily said you can with the Motorola email app.

  • Upsman00

Doesn’t work for me. Tried it twice on my rooted X and both times it said the file was invalid and installation was aborted. I then was stuck at the M and had to SBF.

  • Faceonahead

will this work on milestone2 global version of droid2

  • MaQsr

followed the installation instructions. No good. Says install aborted. The word Bad was parantheses

  • normally

so how do i get the droid x back to froyo now?

    • I don’t think you can go back, I just got done, so I’m wondering: why would you want to?

      • normally

some apps aren’t running anymore. i’ll just go back to froyo, but can’t figure it out. i tried to download the SBF and it’s on my SD card but don’t know what to do now

        • Driverx125

you have to use RSD lite

          • normally

i’m guess you need windows for that? you just install the old froyo SBF using RSD lite and you’re back to normal again?

is there anyway to backup my contacts and installed apps? I hate having to ask for ppls numbers I talk to everyday, and remembering every app. I’d really like to try this release but this is whats stopping me.

    • Mr. Steve

Your contacts and applications are all tethered to your Google account. When you do the update and sign back into Google, your contacts will load in and all of your applications will start downloading.

where can i get that honeycomb wallpaper?

Disregard above as is for Droid 2. if you search this site you can find the SBF for the Droid X. If you are having issues with your RDSLite and are using a 64bit computer try a 32 bit machine should fix everything.

Google services are NOT the processes using sync. For me, it was Motorola’s “Contacts Sync” process (v2.3.3). This has something to do with the phone contacts being stored on the phone and synced with Backup Assistant instead of syncing with Google. You can Force Close the process but it always comes back to sync.I tried the option in the menu for Contacts (more -> settings) and tried to change the default account to store new contacts to Google from Backup Assistant. This seemed to not work. I guess without a data wipe, root will be the only fix. Not ready to lose my saved data untilI can use TB.

i was really only holding back because i do not want to buy a plan for tether. I would love to hear about how this works for you!
Anyone else able to use the hotspot feature with this down load of GB?
If it is a rooted phone, does this mean that it is STILL rooted after installing this?
Sorryif i sound like a total newbie, but,I am. I just rooted my phone yesterday morning using z4root because i wanted to try some different thing,INCLUDING a free tether app, which works like a dream,by the way.
I just do not want to instsll this and lose that feature.
      I have not installed a ROM,still running rooted 2.2.
i have been considering Rubix 2.0.1,but,would I be better off with this if i just want to have free tether and would still like to use the camera (a must for converting to PDF and attaching to e-mails for work related paperwork) ,the camcorder and mini HDMI out, since these are features tht prompted me to buy this phone the day that it was released last spring.
This phone is awesome even stock, compared to what we had available to us up to its release, but,i would love to get all that i can out of it,save battery and get more speed.

      OOPS!
This is a much longer post than I intended it to be,….SORRY!

        • jessicabyerly

I do not think I deleted anything..I just downloaded the z4root and Rooted..Didn’t delete anything that I could tell.

    • Jamerson90

You needed to go to Koush’s bootstrapper in order to boot into recovery. What phone do you have?

  • Owattenmaker

how long should it take once you click on yes for monster_2.zip and it says “installing update”

mine seems to be stuck and wont fill up the loading bar

    just has

    installing update…

  • Wintergon

Upgrade went successful. Had an issue with a white screen of death (fixed by wiping to factory default) and extremely low sound (fixed with a reboot). Seems to run great so far.

    • scotty scott

how did you get to wipe to factory default? Mine has the white screen of death and the only things i can access are the browser, sms, and phone?

  • Ja3s0n22

My phone bricked from this I think…any suggestions? I lost battery life too, so now I can’t turn it on, and it’s not charging. I don’t know if the droid X has the same battery, if it does I’m going to charge my battery from my friends phone and try to fix this. I feel like I followed the directions fine…but it f-ed up anyways. Guess that just happens. I think it was stuck on the bootloader screen. Any suggestions??? Please…

    • Jamerson90

Thats not bricked. What happened is most likely your battery was too low when you started the process, and it sucked it dry. Charge it via a secondary source (friends phone is fine).

FYI – On the bootloader screen, it only sucks energy from the battery, the battery does not charge during that time. That is why phone manu. require you to have a certain battery percentage to update

Anyone know a way to get rid of the sync arrows on the notification bar?

    • Thrlckdkn

I’d like to know this as well – does ANYONE know???

I have the sync arrows in the notification bar as well. I’ve tried settings – no luck. Seems to be happening to alot of people…cmon Droid-Life community….please help….

      • danwray

i went into the account settings and it looked like reader was the culprit, so i unchecked reader sync and rechecked it and the arrows went away

        • i think you are referring to google books instead of reader right? i’ve actually disabled anything that syncs and its still there and boy is it annoying.

          • Rossmoore21

            Wipe data and cache.

          • RickX93277

Wipe data and cache from where? Didn’t see that in storage or apps

          • Mr. Steve

You should have (just to be safe) wiped data and cache before you upgraded. No worries though, just go into settings, privacy, and do a factory reset. You’ll loose your apps and data, but the applications will be restored by Google, just like your contacts and email will. Please note, for future reference, factory reset is the same thing as wipe data and cache except that wipe data and cache is done in recovery mode (mostly for ROM usage) while factory reset is just a factory reset.

          • Thrlckdkn

You say after you factory reset – you say the apps will be restored by google and your contacts…what about my phone numbers? Or do you just mean your contacts from your gmail account will be restored?

What exactly will Google restore and how? Thru Syncing?

      • danwray

  • dave

Does this wipe your phone to factory settings?

    • Wintergon

It did not wipe them when I first applied but per my other post I needed to wipe to get it to run properly. I typically recommend a wipe when applying a new rom. Things just seem to run better.

      • dave

Makes sense..so rooting and updating the software wouldn’t wipe, Just when I wipe it manually if I choose to?

however, I will say my Quadrant benchmark was lower after I put gingerbread than before. I did have some background processes running this time around so I will try it after eliminating them and post my results

    • Buckgrad

Mine did it a few times initially, now it seems to have stabilized.

  • Maybe, just maybe Motorola is trying to make up for the locked phone by putting out a user experience that is better than any of their previous revisions, (possibly with the exception of the og Droid).

Or maybe they just got lucky? Who knows….

The speed and stability on this thing is phenomenal, I don’t want to overclock anymore, don’t need to and it just plain works now. I actually am ok with the new version of blur and so far have gone a day without ADW for the first time in about a year, (or launcherpro or some similar app).

So I rooted and download Bootstrapper and GB update file. Does the name have to be changed from Monster.whatever to update.zip first or can leave it as is??

    • Tom

No, go into recovery and follow this: Make sure you are doing this in the Recovery menu: 1- install zip from sdcard 2- choose zip from sdcard 3- navigate to the Monster 2.3 file 4- confirm install

      • this is exactally what I’ve done and I still get the aborted message. just my luck

Take it to VZW, say that you tried to do an update and this is what happened. They will replace because there techs aren’t very smart.

  • Does it make a difference where I downloaded from? I downloaded the link from my phone. Still getting that “installation aborted” message.

    • Tom

No it doesn’t matter. Make sure it is named update.zip and not (update.zip.zip) and follow the directions carefully.

  • Hogasswildmc

Reading the latest comments, now I see Verizon’s wisdom in not allowing this version to get pushed out lol.

Haha I don’t know, I flashed (after wiping of course) and it works perfectly. Really loving it. I think you should wipe data for this to work flawlessly. Inconvenient but works wonders.

    • Tom

You don’t unzip the file. Please read the directions very carefully before continuing!

      • 1papachi

Hi Tom, sorry for not explaining it correctly. After i download the zip file on the sdcard and reboot on recovery, I’m unable to flash the new zip on the phone. I get the “file error/not good” message. I tried restoring and wipping off teh memory to factory settings to try to flash and still get the error message. Do you have any tips to flash the zip flie on the phone without getting this error message?

        • Tom

Make sure that you have been bootstrapped. Also make sure that the file isn’t named update.zip.zip (this happens sometimes). Thats all I can think of to solve the problem for now.

Is anybody else experiencing that wierd lightblue/white color switching when scrolling in certain apps… for instance the market or facebook app… also, when you scroll to the end or beginning of the page, a wierd blue-ish thing that seems like a glitch…. maybe they meant to do that, but i hate it…

    • Mr. Steve

The scrolling light thing and the bottom of the page glow effect are new and were originally added in the stock gingerbread (except it was yellow). Nothing is wrong with your phone.

  • Agacom24

i dont know how this works? I bought bootstrap recovery for my Droid 2 and i try to click the bootstrap recovery button within the program and it says failure, error running exec and a whole bunch of other jibberish…..help? i really want this GB on my phone!

    • Mike V

you have to root your phone first…

  • Ryan Meyer

I’m getting a “Parse Error” trying to root it…

    • Tom

What are you rooting with? Try z4root.

      • Alejandrorfernandez

I used z4root, and when it says its rooting, the program closes. doesnt prompt a reboot or anything and when i check if rooted, nothing

        • Tom

          is superuser in your applist?

          • Alejandrorfernandez

No, superuser not showing. This is all post GB install. Just trying to get wireless tether to work

          • Eishas

the 3g mobile hotspot , came on mine , and didn’t show anything about a tether plan ….does that mean I got the hotspot free?

          • Tom

            no

          • Tom

thats a good thing for the most part. You need to get superuser pushed over to your phone and installed. I am working on this now. Follow @tomabrad on twitter, I will update there once I have successfully rooted.

        • Tom

          is superuser in your applist?

      • Eishas

        are you rooted Tom?

        • Tom

No I have 10 minutes left on my update.zip download. Then I will install the system. If I cannot get root through z4root, I will try doing it through command with ADB.

          • Eishas

Let me know if it works , I tried with Z4 , and it never did anything

    • Tom

What are you rooting with? Try z4root.

  • BigRed4X15

Is anyone having issues? I have a D2, and the volume on the phone is messed up and I cant activate the speaker. anyone?

  • Alejandrorfernandez

So is there a way to root the new GB to allow such progs as wireless tether?

    • If you flash the TBH 3G Hotspot hack before you flash the GB update, you’ll keep the free tether. After going to GB, get your hotspot going and connect a laptop or anything to it. If it didn’t work, a verizon page should come up telling you about tethering plans. If that doesn’t come up, you should be good to go

Any love for the Droid2Global? GB will be awesome when it gets rooted. Waiting for that :^)

  • Alejandrorfernandez

Im a n00b with this, so if i install the new GB, will it act as an upgrade and keep existing files? or will it be a fresh install with nothing saved?

    • Mike V

It will be an update if it goes smoothly, but if you get a boot loop and have to “wipe Data” per the instructions, then it will be a clean install… I recommend that you use titanium backup to back up your apps and data, then move them to the sd card, so they are still there when you update….

  • apps automatically redownload but you will have to put all your pws, data, etc in again. Took me around 30-40 min but worth it imo.

  • Jeff

This may be a dumb question…but will I have to redownload apps, backup and restore texts,etc..

  • Djardito

As tempted as I am, I’m waiting for Gingerbread to be rooted. I really wanna try it out, it looks great… but I think I’ll wait.

    • Johnatthebar

ditto. I really wanna do it, but I know I will have some random and critical need for tethering or something. plus an extra couple days for handcent and others to patch any weird issues will be helpful.

  • Handcent notification light doens’t seem to work on GB, anybody got that to work?

I just checked for a system update on my dx and it asked me if I wanted to download 2.3.340, is this gingerbread?

  • AWOL

So let’s say I accidentally tried to flash DX version on D2…on a scale of 0 to bricked, where would you say I am? Boot message:
    Bootloader

once somebody gains root access, it should be as simple as running your backup file you created or running another stock image…. I just hope somebody gains root access soon! I cant even restore my apps , cuz titanium backup isnt working without root

  • Woobaker

I did this last night and it replaced the bloat programs I previously uninstalled.
Seems fine now. My root is still intact.
I have the sync circle arrows constantly up top now. Not sure what could be syncing, my stuff is all still there.
    Any ideas?

  • Does anyone else get a lot of random reboots? Mine has rebooted about 3 times already in less than 2 hours.

    • I think this is due to the PowerAmp lock screen. I switched over to the stock music player and so far, it’s not rebooting.

      • OK, this definitely isn’t a PowerAmp issue.

  • Mike V

Ok, so I installed it … everything looks fine except a couple of little things… but i decided i want to wipe the data and reinstall it, just to get a clean install….

The problem is that now I dont have root access, meaning I cant run the recovery software… So am I just stuck with this firmware now? How do I install my backup file if I want to ?

  • Jeremycase00

OK DID THIS LAST NIGHT LOVING IT SO FAR BUT WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO GET BACK TO STOCK IF NEED BE.

    • digsoreos

I think that’s the fear that many users have. If there’s not an easy way to get back to the current official build for when the official Gingerbread release gets approved by VZW, it’s probably better to be safe than sorry. Also, I haven’t heard anything about why this build was rejected by VZW. Hopefully, it wasn’t so more bloatware could be loaded. I don’t think that would be the case because it would be great PR for VZW to have the first phone running an official build of Gingerbread (not to mention, Motorola).

  • 11knives

Looks like I’m going to be diving into this soon as I get home from work. Hopefully by tonight someone gains root access!

        • AWOL

K nice, I’ll try that out. Thanks!

  • Firelight

Just installed on top of APEX 1.4.1. I wiped cache but not data … everything running smoothly. All apps and data still in place.

And let me just tell ya – this baby FLIES – animations are smooth – I’m loving it. It’s like someone stuck a turbo-charged V8 into this puppy.

Am I going to miss rooted apps on here? yup. For the week or so this apparently will take to get root. Even w/o it though – this thing really sings.

Way to go @P3Droid and TBH!

  • I’m waiting until a root becomes available. I need to be able to use Wi-Fi Tethering for my Xoom. Does anyone know of a non-root app for FREE wi-fi tethering? I’ve just always used the “Wireless Tether for Root Users” app.

  • surf2

can someone please tell me if you need to be rooted to do this?

No, you just need the bootstrap.

      • Kwest12

Which means you need………………………………. to be rooted lol

        • Anonymous

Not really. You need to be rooted to install the bootstrap, but you do not need root once you have access to recovery.

          • Jamerson90

If you need to be rooted to run the bootstrap, then you need to be rooted. No not really about it

  • Buckgrad

Okay, newbie to rooting here and in the process of going to gingerbread…but a couple of questions so I don’t screw it up.

I got Astro File Manager, then got (and rooted, I hope) Z4Root from XDA. Have downloaded the file for Gingerbread, and am getting ready to get Bootstrap. When it takes me to the Market to get it, it says not to download it if “you aren’t comfortable using an SBF.” I have no idea what this is…can someone enlighten me and help me through the process from here out? I’m really afraid I’m going to screw something up BIG time…and I can’t afford to replace a bricked phone. Thanks in advance!!

  • i’ll probably just wait for until this is rooted and there’s an easier way to switch back if i don’t like it instead of 1. trying to find the SBFs and 2. messing around with them at all. might just wait for the OTA too

  • vinnie

Do I have to be on a stock build to upgrade to this, or can I upgrade right from Liberty?

  • Anonymous

Of course there’s a download link on here. Instead of trying to download from that terrible TBH app. I’ve never had luck downloading on there and I was on wifi too.

im on liberty rom and this install gets aborted when I try to install the zip file

    • I would probably do an SBF before or at the very least return to a stock nandroid backup

  • Branshaw09

Are there any mirrors? I can’t get the download to complete.

  • SpectrumGoggles

I wish I could get this on my OG Droid. 🙁

  • Falexander115

Does this mean that the official OTA update will be coming soon?

  • Flacmonkey

I tried it and am going straight back to Rubix. Motoblur still looks like some chewed shit and is an abomination unto android.

    • Timpjudd

how were you able to get back to Rubix? I am having problems….also I working on a Mac if that means anything.

  • Way to give credit to TBH

  • Mcneilmoe

tried it, but flashed back to 2.3.20 cause liberty is better

  • Azilla

Works great on my D2, enjoying the stock new blur, do love the fact a stock rom allows for changing of dock icons

  • Calumnium

i’m loving gingerbread so far but i gotta say, i don’t like how they cleaned it up with the white and blue theme, i loved the dirty black and red

  • Jquinones618

Ok am I clicking Reboot recovery or Phone recovery? I’m not sure

  • Velhym

Works perfect. Love it, though blur is still a tad ugly for my tastes. Using Launcher Pro for widgets and just enjoying how much faster everything is.

  • Tiptoptommy

    stuck in bootloader wtf

  • HammerCivE

Went from 3.0 themed liberty 1.5 to 2.3.3 and never looking back

    • vinnie

Did you SBF back to stock first, or just use the update.zip

  • Ray

So no love for the d2g I honestly wish I never got this phone.one Tom to choice from that doesn’t get updated now this arrggghhhh

    • LivinFree

there will be just give it a little time. Don’t worry TBH will get you taken care of as well as PRO owners.

Still no GB love for the OG……Guess those rumors are looking a little more accurate now…DAMNIT!!!

    • Anonymous

It will probably get GB as the last official update, DX and D2 are on priority though because they are the newer devices.

  • Anonymous

well this is the first time i messed with my phone so the guide was a little less self explanitory for me but i made it through and am now running gingerbread. my dx is way faster now.

  • Anonymous

Installed, and it is working great. All my settings were all there, and no issues so far. Even with all the Motorola crap….it seems to be working really fast.

  • Mr Blurryfingaz

Does it work on the droid 2? Does anyone know the answer to the damn question that’s been asked operand over

    • Mr Blurryfingaz

      The D2G? I meant to say…my bad

      • Angelrod111

NO…dont try it on the D2G.

  • JP

  • Bruno Almeida

Anyone know if the Droid 2 Gingerbread Realease it`s working on Motorola Milestone 2 ( European Edition of Droid 2) ?

  • Miguel Caballero

can you post a link to the sbf for stock

  • Chad

Do I need to change the bloatware apps back to .apk files from .fal, which I named them to remove them after I rooted, before I install this?

  • Tim242

That download link only downloads a 21kb file. I think I’ll just keep my sweet rooted FroYo.

  • Anyone else seeing charging issues after upgrading their DX? Been charging for about two hours to go from 50 – 60% Everything else works great though.

  • Burl

Also came up with a weird warning taht I was roaming. How do I activate the phone? All I’ve got is blank screen

  • Burl

Looks great except I’ve got no home screen, just blank grey, and nothing works except the notification bar. Droid 2 original.

    • LivinFree

you need to boot back into recovery and wipe data and then it will be fixed. I had the same issue with my sons D2

      • Nprill

How do we reboot back into recovery if we cant get the app drawer?

        • ram iii

If you’re using the d2, you need to hold down the X key on the keyboard and power on the phone, when you get to the android with an ! then you need to push both volume buttons at the same time to bring up the menu, go to wipe data, hit the power button to select, then wipe data and reset.

    • TheMaster

If this happens to you, follow the “bootloop” instructions – shut down, hold down power and X and select the “wipe” option. You will lose installed apps, etc but the phone will work again. Droid 2 Gingerbread is awesome!

  • Arthur

Wait, so is this the same gb/motoblur update that Verizon rejected? What could they have wanted changed?

  • drinksprite

awesome. downloading right now. just wondering…is it possible that THIS may be made into an sbf file?

  • Burl

stupid question: will this erase my contacts, etc?

    • Anonymous

not stupid, it will re-sync with the google servers

      • Anonymous

but only if they are listed as “google” contacts. If they are stored as “phone contacts” they will not re-sync. I had this problem before and couldn’t figure out how to switch them from “phone” to “google” contacts. You can always export the contact data to your sdcard and then import it after you install the new ROM. At that point it brought mine in as “google” contacts and all I had to do was re-link them with the corresponding facebook contacts to get back to normal. The next time you reflash it will do it automatically.

  • is this root able??

  • Can I still this over Apex or do I have to wipe?

  • This is nice thank god ii returned that POS thunderbolt

    • Tim242

Not one person that reads your posts believe that your dumb ass ever bought the Thunderbolt. You are crazier than an apple fanatic.

      • Anonymous

I have a thunderbolt.. and i am going to sell it.. but more because I realized I like moto hardware just so much more, sense is awesome but the cardock vs the moto dock is complete crap, I am amazing an optimizing battery but I for the life of me can’t get the thunderbolt to give me half a day even with 4g turned off, and there have been little things like the TB unpairing from my BT in my bmw (once in a week, but DX never did since I bought the car in October) I think I’m just a little homesick.. and I got VZW to replace my DX with a brand new one right b4 I bought the TB so I have that sitting there waiting

here is your proof of all my current phones if you were thinking of calling me out

        http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/1439/phonesg.jpg

I have an extra droidx because I haven’t shipped the old one back yet

        • Tim242

I have no reason to call you out. Brian is a troll that trolled every
thunderbolt thread for the last few months. No way in hell he bought it.
Anyway, I switched from Sprint and the Evo to Verizon. I wanted the
Thunderbolt. I got an Incredible due to the delays. I finally decided to get
a Droid X. I am sick of HTC’s poor battery life. I’m lovin having my 4.3″
screen again! Charging once per day is awesome as well : )

  • Adrianl623

When I reboot, it automatically goes into recovery since my last root. But the last update made it so my phone wasn’t rooted.

Do I need to root again to use this?

I dont use many rooted apps, And so I updated. and Man what a difference. Fast and fluid. This blur is great!

Better then any custom rom ever.

  • Hotpipes

Which z4root program do you use to get root back?

  • Peurifoyd

I’m rooted using z4. How do I get back to stock? To update OTA

  • Javonte

Can u install this and backup your rooted rom so if u wana go back to your previous rom you can do so by restoring it? I’m assuming no since this build isnt rooted but I’m just making sure

  • I don’t know this seems like a kind of stupid thing to install right now with this not being rooted. I think I’ll wait a day or two till someone releases a rooted version and then jump on board.

  • Can we get this on Droid 1? i like the blur skin on GB

    • no. get GPA and be happy

    • if i cant get it on my d2g you cant get it on your d1

      • Droidx

Its probably because the d2g is a phone for women and there aren’t many female devs. more people have droid 1 and it is more likely to pop up than for that thing u call a phone

        • Anonymous

Don’t be evil. Business men or frequent travelers use it too.

  • Hey if you DX boot loops when you first do this let it do it like five times and it should come on up that s what mine did 🙂 just don’t panic and pull your battery or something.

    • how bout just wipe if it bootloops instead of waiting. somethings obviously wrong when it bootloops.

  • How do I create a backup? Is this necessary?

  • BigT

Wanting to see a video of this new Blur before my TB return period runs out. Is it good enough to save the Bionic?

    • BigT

Well for anyone feeling the same way if you click the DX reference there is a video. It looks alot smoother than icky atrix blur, this is gonna be a hard decision with the big TB’s Dev support. What do you think?

  • scottyscott

i did it on my D2 and seemed to be succesful. I activated my phone but it says the process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. please try again and the hope sceen is just white and i cant acess anthing. any help?

  • Anyone know if I can go back to a backed up Liberty if I decide I dont like this?

    • Anonymous

the instructions say that you can’t. If I had to guess I’d say you need to SBF back to 2.2 before applying any 2.2 ROMs… but don’t hold me to that because I’m not sure how that works with a locked bootloader

  • Mfalse

I’m still unclear then. So this is a no-go for a d2g? If so, any rumours of how long Verizon is going to take on the official release?

    • LivinFree

As for the D2g there is work being done on a GB build alreayd. Give it a little bit and I’m sure you will see a leak of it for the D2g by TBH also.

  • M1ghtysauc3

I love my Liberty too much to do this.

    • Anonymous

      i was thinking the same thing. decided to give it a shot, anyway. this 2.3.3 srsly makes it feel like a new [faster] phone. D2 {formerly on Liberty 1.5}

    • tjhrulz

I went back to liberty I like my stock android too much, and I dont have time to play with my phone this week. 🙁

  • Joe

Looking for a little help. Was running Liberty 1.5 on my DX and installed this update. On restart it went to a red Moto logo for a few seconds, then reverted back to the silver liberty logo with the spinning eagle. Then it started flickering rapidly and freezing. It’s been at it for going on 10 minutes now. Any idea what might have gone wrong, or how I can repair it? At this point I can’t even get into the operating system.

    • You can sbf the 2.3.340 zip file back to stock so you can get the official update.
(This is for the Droid X)

  • Agacom24

does anybody know where to find the original .sbf file for D2 in case i need to revert back to the original build?? Where is it located “in the wild?”

AND…..how do i get bootstrap on my phone anyone?

    • Moron

I wouldn’t do this if u don’t know what that is but search the market. Its like 10 on top paid apps why are people this dumb…

      • Agacom24

ok i found the bootstrap and my bad i dont know how to go deeper into cell phones…but im trying to to learn, everyones got to learn somewhere….one last really dumb question….where do i find the original sbf file so i can go back to the original build when the official release comes out

  • Devomorph

So, I’ve never done anything of this sort before but the idea of gingerbread on my X is enticing… does this wipe everything currently on my phone?

    • You have the option to, (when you install) but it is highly recommend you do and I don’t think it will work without.

    • Anonymous

be forwarned, it might be a bit of a bear getting updated with the OTA “official” update once it hits. I haven’t had to SBF before but I know a lot of people seem afraid to do it or at least reluctant to mess with it.

  • how else can you use bootstrap? <_<

Question for someone? Anyone of you guys running a stock not-overclocked 2.2 build, what are some of your benchmark scores? I knew there were some optimizations, but these numbers are sweet! I’m only hoping for a boost like that on my Incredible. If I can pull another 450-500 mflops, that should be quite noticeable in everyday tasks. Are you guys noticing a much smoother running UI, or other improvements?

it’s been a long time since i’ve romed anything (original droid). do i NEED sootstrap or can i make this happen with rom manager

    • Jleejordan

      so sootstrap should be bootstrap

  • SugaShane

    I’m not scared … you’re scared.

  • Anyone brave enough to try this on their D2G? I’m glad to see so many others asking the same. I wish there were more developers for the Global, Team Defuse seems to have fizzled out. No Rom related news from them since early January.

    • cbkcc1

maybe this with romer applied to it… i will ponder doing it

    • LivinFree

Don’t use it on the D2g, just hang in there I know for a fact there should be a GB build for the D2g in the not to distant future as well as a GB build for hte PTO.

    • Samii182

DO NOT download on the global. I decided to be brave(or stupid) and try it, and it bricked my phone. Now I have an incredible I got off ebay… I in no way blame Team Black Hat, but it’s not a good idea to try it on the global.

  • mr. kellex does this work on the d2g?

    • Anonymous

No. Do not try to install on D2G.

      • Elpeterson76

The D2G is just too good of a phone to constantly get squat humped by moto like this.

  • Anonymous

I’m assuming it doesn’t work but anybody try the D2 version on the D2G?

    • Anonymous

I would not try to do that.

  • Edgar

Moto did an awesome job on the new blur. I don’t mind it one bit.

  • NB

Do I use bootstrap or normal recovery mode to install GB??

    • DroidzFX

      bootstrap

      • NB

        Thanks!

  • JRummy16

Not installing. Too early of an untested release 😛

    • DroidzFX

Really? whats the worst that can happen? You have to sbf. Its worth checking out.

      • Agacom24

where do i find the sbf what does that mean?

        • Ya what is an SBF?

          • google it for the Droid X, or just search the site here. The sbf is the recovery file that allows you take your phone back to a specific official build.

          • Kwest12

            Not sure… what’s a droid x?

        • Ya what is an SBF?

For weeks I was running the last rom they put out that had the updated Blur. It has been the best rom I’ve ever used and did not change away from it. I never had a rom on my Droid X as long as the one with the new Blur. The only thing I would replace it with would be this. And if this is nearly as good it will without a doubt the best rom out there and it would keep people from trying all these other roms… in my opinion.

I purchased a new Thunderbolt but still have my X at the moment. If I keep it much longer this will be the rom I put on it.

      I don’t think it’s untested at all.

      • DroidzFX

I was running the new blur also and thought it ran well with great battery life. With other ROMs there is always something that doesnt work that well or at all. Most of the time it happens when you really need it. That moment comes up and your trying to take a picture and your saying hold on my phone is trying to get there.

    • MaQsr

Good advice. Ive purchased your apps in the past. Your comments are what i was looking for, I’ll wait.

  • Mr Blurryfingaz

Is it for the droid 2 global?

  • Skyskioc

can you use this if you are running Liberty 1.5 ? Do I really need this ? Any help appreciated

  • DroidzFX

The new GB is epic. Easily better than any Rom I ever ran. Google and Moto did an awesome job with this.

3G hotspot app is working for those scared to lose root you will still have this feature.

    • I agree.

    • Zenman0007

Yeah, but, you have to pay,if you are referring to the stock app,or are you talking about something off of the market?
I love the Wireless Tether app,I don’t think that i could use it with this GB.
      Won,t it “un-root” my phone,basicly,if i install this?

  • I want to try this but I’m still scared of Blur and I use too many apps that require rooting. Still exciting progress though.

    • DroidzFX

This is what blur should have been.

      • That’s what the general consensus seems to be. I’ll probably give a try, but until I can root it probably won’t be a permanent solution.

  • David

Think I’m gonna wait till liberty 2.0 drops instead of this

    • pj

Wow! What were you getting on stock 2.2 blur builds before this?

    • Pcrowley59

Stock TBolt getting 1829, don,t need to root this one for speed……

  • I actually got bootloader’d when I tried to flash, but I don’t think I ever updated to the newer leaks, so that may have been my issue.

  • Is this Droid 2 only? or droid 2 global as well?

    • Droid 2 global is the same thing just global added should work still

  • 1752 on my first benchmark score

    • pj

What kind of scores were you pulling on stock blur builds before? Those are crazy scores!

      • I believe like 1500-1600ish with Fission ROM but I’m not 100%

        • pj

Sorry. I edited that. What were your scores on a stock build? That’s all this is right?

          • Yeah this is stock now. I can’t remember what I was getting on stock 2.2 it’s been a while.

          • Anonymous

            Stock gets around 1200.

  • rob

    YES

  • surf2

    you have to be rooted?

    • Buckgrad

      My question as well…

  • To bad we need root re-established for this build

    • anyone know if this will be coming to the moto cliq 2 since it has the same exact specs as the droid x and droid 2 ?
