  • Well, I will try to update this preview version of Android L on my Nexus 4 to experience it, once it get fully charged on wireless car charger dock. This is the only reason why I purchased Nexus series Smartphones over others because it comes with a guarantee of being upgraded to new versions of Android before other devices.

  • So they are killing the version numbers so people can’t see what versions they have? It’s a good way to hide security updates being so late and prevents Apple from rubbing their latest OS adoption rate in their face.

  • I’m confused. Will it always be known as “L” or will it be given a dessert name eventually?

    • its a wild guess but maybe switching to “L” then “M” and so on… maybe “L.1”

  • Cm team might not even release the ‘L’ Rom as it’s a dev preview and things might change.(Stated by koush on G+)

  • Hey I got a question, I’m sort of a noob when it comes to flashing but I’ve done it a few times successfully back when I had my Droid X and also on my Razr. Anyway I want to try and flash Android L Preview on my nexus 7 2012 and when I click on the link above it brings me to a page with like 3 links “tree” “parent” and “parent” my question is which one do I click on/use if I want to put Android L Preview on my nexus 7 2012. Any help would be appreciated. thanks ….oh and if you know any How-To links that might help me that would be appreciated too. Thanks

    • Lol,dude,as the writer stated,no flashable images available as of yet.Read before commenting.

      • sorry my bad lol I feel stupid now after reading the article again, like I said I’m a noob when it comes to this. But how do you get it on your device? Whats the correct way? Like if I want to put Android L onto my nexus 7 2012 how do I do it? thanks. any help would be appreciated.

    • I’m pretty sure it was Google’s choice to stop supporting the Galaxy Nexus. But yeah, I agree, Damn you Verizon.

      • TI stopped supporting their chipset. The last “stable” drivers being for 4.1, which passably worked in 4.2 and 4.3, but are completely broken in 4.4. Reverse-engineering or hacking around a broken firmware is not something you would expect from a company like Google, and without anyone on-staff who completely understood the TI chip from top to bottom, getting spun-up on the development would have taken a pretty long time as well. So they did the prudent thing and cut their losses. Kind of like Nvidia hanging HTC out to dry with KK and the T3i chipset. If the chipset OEM doesn’t want to invest the money in updates, there is jack-all the ODM can do about it but suck it up, apologize, and move on.

        • IDK, Shiny ROM has been really good on my GNEX with 4.4.4. It must be smoke and mirrors he is doing it with.

          • my buddy uses that on his gnex as well… data seems flaky for him but its his daily driver

      • Peyton . true that Jessica `s
blurb is shocking, last monday I got a gorgeous Peugeot 205 GTi after having
earned $6860 this past 4 weeks an would you believe ten-k this past-month .
with-out a doubt this is the easiest-job I’ve ever had . I actually started six
months/ago and pretty much immediately started to bring in minimum $84… p/h .

    • Wow I have a friend with a GNex and I make it my duty to inform him that his phone is as old as dirt and completely obsolete every time I see him. Please just upgrade already.

  • Sweet to know as a Nexus 4 owner. Perfect last update hopefully. Official anyway. Hoping it gets this update.

    • It’s great for Nexus 7 owners too. I was worried I’d be stuck on Kit Kat less than two years later

  • Bill Yi posted on Google Groups to point out that this was an update for some GPL projects, but it’s not a complete platform update. Subsequent comments revealed that an l-preview branch was created for many non-GPL licensed projects, but the contents of those branches match the current state of their related Master branch. There’s still a lot to be taken from this update, but full custom builds won’t be possible yet.

  • Ok, so it’s “Android L”? Thats it? I’ve been reading and watching and waiting about the new version of Android, but we’re just going with a letter as the new name? No new sweet name? I thought key lime pie was better than kit kat, but whatever. I remember waiting for Gingerbread….now i wait for “L”…what’s the L for? LAME? Why the break in the tradition? Anyone know?

    • They will most likely reveal the name when it is officially released in the fall. “L” is just a placeholder.

    • Dude, don’t get your panties in a bunch. This is a preview, the final software will be released, as usual in the fall with a dessert name.

    • Android L sounds fine to me. I don’t see why you have your panties in a bunch

    • I wish my life was as awesome as yours so that little details like this would matter.

      • Wow… What an awesome community this has turned into. /sarc…. It was a question. My panties are not in a bunch. I don’t remember calling kit kat/key lime pie Android K. Which is why I asked. What I didn’t ask for was rude comments….

        • I wonder if they’re calling it L while trying to find a marketing partner, like they did with Kit Kat. Maybe they’re trying to strike a deal with Life Savers or something.

    • So no Paranoid on my G2? Sad day!!! I’m sure it will be ready in a week.

      • Even if Google did release the whole source. The Paranoid Android team may chose to wait until the final “L” release” to start building with Android L. Cyanogenmod has already said they wont do anything with the preview build.
