DROID RAZR 6.12.173 Fastboot Files Released

by: | posted 02.19.12 | Downloads, News, RAZR, Root

Fastboot files for the latest DROID Bionic build were released on Friday from daywalker04 which had us hoping that he would drop the new DROID RAZR 6.12.173 as well. He did just that. So for those of you interesting in rooting your RAZR, flashing ROMs, or hacking on it in general, you will want to grab this file before it is gone. This is your ticket back to safety should you soft-brick your device at some point.

New Dropbox Beta Released – Instant Camera Upload Feature, Free 500MB of Extra Space, and No More File Size Limits

by: | posted 02.03.12 | Apps, Downloads, News

The Dropbox team released a new beta version of their Android app last night, bringing with it a handful of features that you will enjoy. The first and most important is the instant uploading of camera photos. You can set the app up to either upload everything you have taken in the past or just the new stuff going forward. Once you upload your first camera shot though, they’ll tack on another 500MB of storage to your account. They also removed the file limit size for uploads, opening your Dropbox world to all sorts of new possibilities.

The rest of the changes:

  • Automatically uploads photos and videos in the background using Wi-Fi or data plan
  • 500MB of free space on first photo uploaded automatically
  • Upload files of any size (no more 180 MB limit!)
  • Support for resuming file uploads when there are network issues
  • Various performance improvements & bug fixes

Download: LG Spectrum System Dump

by: | posted 01.25.12 | Downloads, News

Thanks to a community friend, we now have the full system dump from the LG Spectrum if anyone is interested in poking around in it. He even pulled out the apps and media separately, since those tend to be the most requested files from a new phone. And yes, the HD ESPN ScoreCenter app is included, although it’s technically a step back from today’s update since it does not have the new notification service.

Speaker Proximity App Allows Your Phone to Automatically Toggle Speaker On or Off While on a Call

by: | posted 01.23.12 | Apps, Downloads, News

A reader turned us onto an app that appears to have been around for quite some time yet hasn’t really received much attention. It’s called Speaker Proximity, and it allows your phone to automatically toggle between speaker and ear piece during a call by using your phone’s proximity sensor. I played with it during a couple of calls on my Galaxy Nexus today and it seems to work pretty well.

The app is not in the market, but you can pick it up through its Google Project page. Let us know what you think!

CyanogenMod 9 Music Player Released for Download

by: | posted 01.17.12 | Downloads, News

The CyanogenMod 9 music player that was teased a couple of weeks back is now available for download. The app will be in the market soon, but for now, you will have to download and manually install it via the link below. Why use this app over the stock Google Music app? For a few reasons.

  • Long pressing and flinging gets you special actions
  • You can search for songs in the market from almost any screen
  • Share tracks with social outlets
  • Customize the notifications music player
  • It can easily be themed, meaning themes are on the way
  • Shaking your phone or flipping it can activate special actions
  • So much more…

One thing to note – this will not pull in your Google Music collection and is only for tracks on your device. To my knowledge, Google has not opened up that service to anyone, so until they do, you’ll have to load music onto your phone in order to take advantage of apps like these.

Download: MotoACTV App for Non-Motorola Phones

by: | posted 12.28.11 | Apps, Downloads, News

Other than price, one of the biggest annoyances to Motorola’s MotoACTV sports tracker has been the fact that it is limited to only being able to pair with Motorola Android phones. This limitation left anyone who owns say a Galaxy Nexus, Rezound or other non-Moto phone without the ability to receive calls, texts or calendar notifications during a workout – one of the major selling points to the device. Thankfully, the developer community has our back again and pulled out the permission from the app that was asking to validate with Blur and it now works on all Android phones, accepting calls, texts and even calendar reminders.
