US Cellular Will Tweak Data Plans March 13, Adding More Data at Current Price Points

According to sources, US Cellular is jumping on the “better bang for your current buck” trend that almost all of the major U.S. wireless carriers have fallen under over the last couple of weeks. It’s a competitive world out there, so carriers are now offering you more data for the same price. Verizon did it with MORE Everything, AT&T did it with family and individual plans (Aio Wireless too), and so did T-Mobile (sort of).

Come March 13, US Cellular will make their new shared data plans official and permanent. Their $40 plan with 300MB of data will now be 1GB, the $50 plan jumps from 1GB to 2GB, and the $60 plan rises from 2GB to 3GB. There will also be a new $15/300MB plan and a $60 single line plan with 1GB of data.

If you are a current US Cellular customer, your account will automatically upgrade to the new data amount.

    Friday 3/13 (sic)

    • Who am I?

uh it’s actually Thursday March 13th

  • Steve B

What kind of network do they run on? GSM or CDMA?

    • Marc

  • Trace

US Cellular? Really? Is there anyone outside the state of Iowa that even uses this company anymore? I thought it was dead.

    • LionStone

Northern California uses it and does better than VZW in some rural areas.

  • paul_cus

    U.S. Cellular still exists?

  • Bubba

So nice that people leak internal documents. Jerks.

    • Tim242

So nice that you worry about what others do that don’t affect you. Jerk.

      • michael arazan

If I worked for one of these companies, I’d leak documents too, especially if it keeps them honest.

  • dm33

How can you list tmobile last then say sort of.
Tmobile started and is driving this price war. Without them, no prices would have dropped. Credit should be given where it’s due.

    • michael arazan

More of a sort of, prices are the same but they have pushed the data up 1 gb, whooppee

      • dm33

That is the title of this article. More data at same price points.
Tmobile started this latest round as well. Att quickly followed. Verizon is always the last if ever to budge.

    • d-rock

Verizon gets credit for everything that Kellex posts.

  • These prices looked awesome until I realized it was just the price for data, the cost for each smartphone is $40, so for 1GB you’d be looking at $80/mo. for one phone.

    • marco mendoza

but they will offer a promotional plan for 60 dollars with 1gb data and unlimited talk and text

    • jimt

Check out Ting (uses sprint) if you are looking for cheap prices. Its a sort of modular plan, you only pay for what you use, in blocks. They don’t allow a lot of data, however.

      • Tim242

        They use Sprint…

      • Woopwoop

Wouldn’t that be CDMA though? It would defeat a large reason for going to prepaid – ability to switch plans and carriers if you are unhappy. (in theory)

        • jimt

My cousin uses it. Works with Nexus 5, yes it is CDMA. It is very cheap. As low as $6 a month but this is with no use of phone at all. I cannot think of a cheaper plan. It is prepaid no contract.

          • Woopwoop

Interesting. So the N5 supports Spring CDMA, just not Verizon, so technically could be used for prepaids on AT&T + T-Mobile + Sprint. Is that so?

          • jimt

            Yes, absolutely.

    • phil

Check out Brightspot, Target’s brand of T-Mobile prepaid. $50 for 1gb of 4g data & unlimited everything else. $ 25 gift Target card every 6 months you prepay. I’m told they aren’t throttling the 4g when you go over, yet.

      • MKader17

Or checkout Net10 or Straight Talk on ATT or TMobile. 2.5gbs for $45.

        • d-rock

Solevei uses Tmo and it’s $50 unlimited everything I believe.

Oops N/M, they changed their pricing structure…$70 unlimited everything…

  • joe

im still amazed us cellular is a company, i gave up that horrible mess of things 6 years ago

    • michael arazan

Same here, thought they would of been the first to be bought out a while ago, even before clearwire.

    • joe

just never had any phones i actually wanted at the time

  • jimt

Thank you Tmo. Love my Tmo though.

    • Woopwoop

But God does their customer service suck ass! 🙁
