HTC and Verizon Announce November 13 Event in New York, Most Likely to Unveil Droid DNA

On November 13 at 11AM EST, HTC and Verizon are hosting a shindig in New York City, most likely to unveil the DROID DNA which we have been discussing for the past two weeks. The invitation that we have received doesn’t go into detail as to what we can expect, but what else could it be? And hey, doesn’t that shade of red sort of look like a zoomed-in DROID eye?

Let the hypebeast begin.

  • dsass600

Too bad I’m leaving Verizon for the Nexus 4 on AT&T.

    • Spider210

lol i hope this isn’t a serious comment

  • TH14

Anyone know anything on the UK release for the DNA?

Even with the awesome screen and slightly faster chip, this seems like a supercharged phone that does what every other phone does compared to the note 2. Samsung is going to get a lot of new uses for the s pen I bet. Plus the note can run simultaneous apps on one screen right?

    • Paul

The Note 2 currently doesn’t have the multi-window feature according to the review on here. Most people also won’t bother to pull out the s pen either. I can see how it would be nice for people who like to draw, but otherwise it’s more of a gimmick like a wiimote.

I’m still slightly considering getting the Note 2 first and returning it within the 2 weeks if it’s too big just for it’s large screen though.

  • Nazzi_Muhammad

Another phone that verizon has rubbed their ass crack on. Where’s the logo gonna be this time?

    • kane

Nice way to put it. That should be a new meme. Damn that phone was sweet but it got the vzw ass crack

  • Clayton Anderson

Most of the specs look great. Bottom line. That battery is a problem. 1080p display, plus the speediest quadcore processor on LTE doesn’t bode well for battery life. Galaxy Note 2 for me….as soon as Verizon finally gets done stamping their logo on the home buttons and gives us a release date. Smh. Who does a preorder 5 weeks out anyway?!

    • Ibrick

2500ma isn’t too shabby.. especially when paired with an ultra-efficient S4 Pro. I think battery life will be fine.
Not MAXX territory, but I’d be surprised if battery life ends up being a weak spot.

      • We’ve never seen a five inch 1080p display ON VZW LTE. It may be a decent, but I can’t imagine it making it through an 8hr workday. I would love to be wrong though.

    • Symbiotx

Apple did announcement, pre-order, and release all in the same month… just sayin.

      • Clayton Anderson

Yeah and Apple screwed their faithful flock of sheep yet again with an incremental update. I can’t respect them until they respect the consumers enough to give them their best every time.

        • Symbiotx

I’m not using an apple phone, I’m looking to get this one. I’m just answering what you asked. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad just because they don’t have it available to pre-order months in advance.

          • Clayton Anderson

Sorry…..guess trolls have me on edge. LOL! Yeah, but I have always been jealous that their launch date is usually only a week or so after annoucement and preorders begin. I’m sure this will be a great device, but I’m kind of in love with the Note 2.

  • Dave

Of course they would do this on Nexus 4 release day. Probably won’t say many people who are already dead set on getting a Nexus device. But may help entice Verizon customers who are thinking about leaving for a prepaid service + Nexus 4 (me).

  • Droid Burgundy

    how dare you 😐 *sigh*

  • Droid Burgundy

*sigh* why does a hurricane have to ruin Google’s NYC event… meanwhile perfect weather will shine down on this turd of an event

  • Bionic

Probably the only HTC to ever tempt me. I wonder if motorola will make a phablet?

    • tomn1ce

That would be nice, a Moto phablet with 5.5″ 1080p edge to edge display with a 3500-4000mAh battery….with small top and bottom bezels. This way the overall size of the phone won’t be as big as the G-Note 2 but with the same display size.

      • cocamoxb

………and a camera that doesn’t look like it takes pictures from 2002!

  • Tyler Casilio

I was just gonna say that looks like a close up of a Droid eye. Curse you o-tato! lol

Posting my S3 on eBay now. I’ve been waiting so long for this.

  • Planning on leaving VZW for a T-Mo Nexus 4 soon. The DNA would have to be pretty amazing to change my mind

  • I can’t imagine why HTC would bother creating a new phone with hardware keys. Way to build something future-proof.

    • cocamoxb

or, in contrast, what an effective way to use a bezel!

    • Paul

How is it not future proof? When would it be a problem having the hardware keys?

  • PyroHoltz

New York huh? I hope the phone is water proof.

    • Actually i think The J Butterfly is waterproof so if this is the Verizon version of that, as rumors say it is, then it is possible that the phone is indeed waterproof.

  • Captain_Doug

I guess I’ll just go through and up vote everyone.

  • Chuck Finley

It’s nice to have an official event being announced and possibly the timely release of a phone in the coming weeks…

This is close to how a phone launch SHOULD be Verizon (not like you really care anyway since you know we’re still gonna stay and buy phones – kinda Apple-ish). It’s almost like you’ve changed with your product launches BUT….

……..then again, this is supposed to be a “Droid” branded launch sooooo maybe you haven’t changed, just wanted to try to stick it to the Nexus 4 on its launch day.

  • QQpayne

I cant wait for a review on this phone so I can decide what i will be buying this year.

  • Zach

This phone will have a fantastic screen, but I really want a phone with at least 32gb of storage (games) and a hefty battery. I will probably have to pass on what will be a solid phone.

    • steve0617

Which is what I want too. So I decided screw the screen and ordered a Maxx HD.

      • Zach

Great choice! That’s the beauty of Android, choice. A phone for everyone.

    • Check the specs

This phone should have a micro-sd card slot, so you can easily have over 32GB. if the phone will have 16Gb internal and you can easily pick up a 16Gb microsd card for like $10 (check newegg or amazon)

      • Zach

Yeah, and try to install games, apps on said SD card. You can’t. (without root) So pointless. This phone will NOT have an SD card slot anyway.

        • Symbiotx

I don’t understand why everyone is assuming this will have no sd card slot. The J Butterfly does.

        • Ibrick

Wow, you’re awfully sure about this device not having an SD slot, even used all caps.
The J Butterfly, DOES have an SD card slot, so more than likely this phone WILL have an SD card slot.

        • trob6969

Huh?! I have more than a few apps and games on my microSD card…Dead Space, Heavy Gunner, Shadow Gun…and my phone is 100% stock.

      • trob6969

Yeah, especially since 128 GB microSD cards are supposed to hit market in 2013.

  • Charlie

This story right after dire financial news came out for HTC. Check the engadget story. They are not doing well at all. “HTC revenues continue to drop at alarming rates, down 61% from last October” is the headline. Not good.

    • JoshGroff

So they need to release a game changing phone, or you know actually market it…

      • Charlie

They have released a “game changing” phone, this year in fact. One X ring a bell? And I don’t know about you, but I saw a million ads for it across television and the internet. Still didn’t help. Now they will release this phone on one carrier and have the Rezound all over again. (Stats show the Rezound didn’t do to well)

        • JoshGroff

I completely forgot about the One X, also, the carrier exclusive crap isn’t helping them much. :/

          • Charlie

Exactly! Doesn’t help at all. I still don’t get why they are in the bad financial situation they are in anyway. They make great phones and seem to market them well. It baffles me.

          • JoshGroff

They are my second favorite OEM in terms of hardware. I’m sort of getting annoyed with people who take the fact that a company’s not making money and instantly convert that to they must make horrible devices.

          • NexusMan

I can tell you my personal 2 cents…My 1st Android phone was the Droid Incredible and I LOVED it and was ALL ABOUT HTC…then, the DInc started having “memory low” issues that were curious since my memory wasn’t actually low, and found that HTC’s customer support was terrible. These glitches, and lack of a resolution on the part of HTC, as well their perceived lack of caring seriously soured my like and trust in them. Then, after the Incredible, instead of building on that momentum they had originally created and making improvements on it, they kept throwing out, with Verizon, ugly, uninspired, unimpressive sequels with none of the pizazz or push that the original had…further pushing their former loyalists to look elsewhere.

          • michael arazan

Maybe they shouldn’t have invested all that money in beats audio.

          • trob6969

HTC’s marketing SUCKS. The company doesn’t promote it’s product’s ‘real’ features; the customer is left to find out for themselves.

        • trob6969

The rezound didn’t do well because, HTC for whatever reason, chose to only promote it’s Beats Audio. There was never any promotion of the phone’s industry-first features: first phone with 720p HD display, first with 1.5 GHz dual core processor, first to have a front cam that re ords HD video, first to have wireless charging, both cams record HD slow-motion video, and the biggest one of all is the first to smash iPhone’s coveted retina display of 326 ppi. The rezound’s ppi is 342! Which is STILL the highest except for the new J Butterfly.

          • kane

Yea and that awesome battery…oh wait. Just kidding yea this phone should have been great. Think it had issues. Sure the devs could / did fix and get that crappy Sense off it.

          • trob6969

“Crappy” battery not an issue because its swappable. And tell me specifically what’s wrong with Sense? And please don’t run the “it makes the phone slow” excuse because I already know it doesn’t. And mine hasnt had any bugs either.

    • I think the Droid DNA will change this! It has been featured on just about every tech news site and in just about every article the comments are FILLED with people clamoring to buy it!

  • master94

Some Apple fan boy is going through the comments down voting everyone. isheeps have no life.

    • JoshGroff

iSheep (sheep can be plural or singular.)
      The more you know. 😉

Gave you a thumbs up either way.

      • Clayton Anderson

        Well played, Sir.

      • master94

Thanks, for the grammar lesson 🙂

        • JoshGroff

I felt the need to correct it while also not looking like a jerk. My job here is done.

          • master94

Appreciate it, never to old to learn something new.

  • It does look like a zoomed in Droid Eye, Tim. Good observation.

  • Adam Wells

That is definitely a zoomed in DROID eye. Can’t wait. My tbolt is a little long in the tooth.

    • Murphy

I know what you mean…lol, ready to ditch this phone ASAP!

  • michael

    finally some official news!!

  • Chris Malkiewicz

Launch Day of Nexus 4… Soo maybe a new HTC Nexus??? LOL I just don’t want Sense

    • Justin W

      Not with exclusivity to Verizon.

      • Chris Malkiewicz

        One can only dream!

      • chris125

well the galaxy nexus was exclusive to verizon for awhile…

        • Paul

Not true and that wasn’t even an HTC device so there’s no reason why it would have had Sense, even if not a Nexus.

          • chris125

How isn’t it true? Look how long it took us carriers to get it. So yes it was exclusive for a period of time.

          • either way, verizon and Google did not get along too well. they said they made a mistake with the VZW gnex and wouldn’t be doing business with cdma/LTE any time soon.

        • btod

It was exclusive to verizon for a while but Google announced it, not verizon.

          • Paul

Yeah. Verizon had no part in deciding if it would have a skin on it, which obviously google wouldn’t do. Verizon also technically wasn’t the first carrier to get it (from an international standpoint).

  • Andrew

complete with a locked bootloader and s-on!

    • I wouldn’t have it any other way! 😛

  • Bill Mitchell

Dang it… I guess I should probably wait until after the event to preorder the Nexus 4, just in case… :'(
