Video: Here is the New Jelly Bean Boot Animation

Before we get into an unboxing and a more in-depth look of Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) and the Nexus 7, we thought we would share the new boot animation that comes with it. We already showed you the new Easter egg, so tossing this out there as well just made sense. Ready for this triangular fun?

  • Trevor

8GB or 16, that is the only thing holding me back right now. I really don’t think I need 16GB. How much memory does an average HD movie take up (such as one from the Play store)?

    • Lactose_the_Intolerant

“Depends” — using DVDCatalyst, most movies ripped from my dvd collection are 2-3 gigs per movie. Go for the 16gb, its $50 bucks more but you’re getting $25 Google Play credit.

      • Trevor

Yeah, I’m starting to lean towards the 16gb one.

  • Can you please pull the boot animation file and post it please? Thanks!

  • frankandsimple

  • fanboy1974

That is ugly but I never use stock roms especially on a Nexus device.

  • I actually found that really ugly. Like, made by a kid who has just learned animation.

  • Fresh-ripped Google Play Store APK for the new Jelly Bean update, v3.7.11 …adds television shows, magazine downloads and movie purchase option.

Install like any other app (see additional notes in post) — no need to wait for July. Enjoy. 🙂

  • i prefer the Droid eye

  • djyashodha

it’s great and iwant it.it has nice looking

  • Christian

Well I just flashed a Gnex 4.1 port – seems to have come directly from the I/O devices, and the boot animation is completely differently. It’s actually a lot more subtle and nice in my opinion. It’s just the Nexus “X” logo in the middle of the screen with a little bit of glowing. Maybe the Google Play logo one is only on the Nexus 7 since it’s branded so much for Google Play? Well, either way, here’s the Nexus “X” one: http://www.mediafire.com/?owf4r7jr22ojrab

It’s really beautiful in my opinion, the nicest one so far.

    • After looking at it, I’d say that the one on the Galaxy may actually be the custom one for a product. Comparing the type of design scheme of ICS and HC the one on the N7 fits more with them. Who knows for sure, but the N7 is the consumer device and JB on GN is a dev preview and may have that boot animation to signify that.

      • Christian

That could definitely be true; I’m not really sure at all but I know I’m saving the Gnex one for awhile as it is really, really nice 🙂

  • Esteban_Colberto

    I think I just came a little…. 😉

  • jquest68

I don’t know but it Sucks. Nothing exciting about it. Its like spiral something, you can’t even name it. They should change that. Thank goodness it has tegra so we don’t have to watch that too long.

    • EvanTheGamer

Sometimes things that can’t be named are the best things in life!

  • John

Pretty cool. When can I expect to see this on my LTE Verizon Nexus?

  • I need this tab to go with my GNex

  • Steve Jobs Ghost

Why do all your videos have you waving your hands like a mad man? The constant fiddling is beyond annoying.

    • Sven Enterlein

Then don’t watch them. Problem solved. But from your description I was reminded of the used boat salesman in Monkey Island 😀

      • KnowYourEnemy462

        • Sven Enterlein

WORD! I think it’s great that he kept his plaid jacket with static filling throughout all instances of MI

  • EvanTheGamer

SO cool…yep, going to be pre-ordering this puppy sometime tonight or tomorrow. Heck yes, I finally found my new tablet! Well, my first tablet, anyways.

    • Bionic

i would order it soon if I were you, who knows how many they have ready to go

      • EvanTheGamer

Yeah, that’s very true. Will pre-order it in just a bit(currently working and don’t want to get fired on the account of a kick-ass tablet(hopefully a kick-ass tablet!)).

  • JoeInMo

I have never understood the fascination with boot animations. I can’t imagine someone rebooting their device to show their “cool” boot animation. How lame.

    • Bionic

      me to

  • Kellex is delivering the goods! Now let me get that tablet on the humble. Seriously

  • Bionic

There would be no reason to put a screen protector on this thing right? Considering it has Gorilla Glass

    • EvanTheGamer

Have they invented finger print proof screen protectors yet? Seriously, that’s what we REALLY need! I hate putting finger proofs on my devices; it just annoys the hell outta me!

  • Bigsike

Way faster than my Prime, I hope it gets better with Jelly bean.

  • Bionic

im so mad i have to wait 2-3 weeks. ship the damn thing tomorrow!!!!

So kellex are we getting a full review tonight?

  • Quite a quick boot. I’m certainly impressed. Been waiting for this tablet…

  • Akili Gordon

Kellex is delivering the goods! Now let me get that tablet on the humble. Seriously

  • such a tease

  • digitalicecream

  • Nicest manicure in the business!

  • cool

  • Google looks very Zune-ish these days. That’s a very high compliment.

    • Quite the compliment indeed. Still rocking the Zune HD

      • rlorenz

        Yo tambien

  • Prime7

I think I prefer the ICS and Honeycomb ones. Could just be the quality of the video, though.

    • eddieonofre

agree I like the ics the most

      • michael arazan

Almost looks like a tetrahedron forming/ recombining, which would of made a good boot screen animation

    • I liked HC the best so far.

  • Christopher Grame

I think this solidifies the fact this tablet/jelly bean is all about the play store. I mean I know they said that in the video as well but…

  • BrianLipp

Kellex, im surprised you havent unlocked the bootloader yet 😛 unless it doesnt show the little padlock anymore

    • Bionic

      android central did

  • I like that, but the Transformer Prime boot animation is much cooler. lol

    • Bionic

well according to the order form when I ordered mine, i get Transformers Dark of the Moon preloaded or something? LOL

      • You ordered the nexus 7? That’s probably because they paid to get their stupid movie on it. The I/O had transformer references, too. How ironic.

        • Bionic

yeah i just ordered mine and it says “for a limited time if you pro order a nexus 7 you get $25 to spend in the play store and a free digital copy of transformers dark of the moon”

          • EvanTheGamer

Quick question, Bionic, and I know this has sort of been confirmed already by another user, but need a second opinion. When you placed your order for the Nexus 7, were you automatically charged the full amount or were you only charged a $1 authorization fee?

Reason I ask is because I’d prefer to be charged when it ships instead of being charged the second I place the order. Sort of low on funds, and don’t get paid until Monday. May be all sold out by then.

          • Bionic

The full amount has appeared in my bank account already. However, I fully expect it to go away until my tablet ships. My receipt states that I wont be charged until shipped. The reason it is in my bank account already is because its just authorizing. This happened to me a few other times like when I purchased a TV online.

          • EvanTheGamer

@comiskeybum:disqus: So in other words, there has to be enough money in my bank account to cover the full amount, or my debt card will be declined, correct?

Damnit! Not enough in there at the moment, at least not until Monday or Tuesday of next week. Well…guess I’ll just let fate decide now. If it’s meant to be, the Nexus 7 will still be available for pre-order on Monday or Tuesday. And if not, then I guess I’ll just have to wait until it’s available and buy it elsewhere.

But damn, wanted that $25 Play Store credit! WHY, GOOGLE, WHY?

And thanks for the quick responses man, appreciate it!

          • EvanTheGamer

Just to be 100% sure of this, I called Google and talked to a CS agent about pre-ordering the Nexus 7, and if I’d be charged the second I placed the order. He wasn’t quite sure, as he’s been getting a number of calls from others about this same concern. He said that one user said that as soon as he placed the order, he was charged the full amount, while another had a different experience when pre-ordering the device.

So anyways, about 15 minutes later, got an e-mail from the CS agent, telling me that he looked into my question further.

            Here’s the e-mail:
Thank you for contacting Google. we spoke on the phone earlier about when the payment for your order would be deducted from your account. This is an excellent question, and after looking into it further, I have an answer for you.

The purchase amount of the order is “reserved” on your card to ensure the funds are there when the order is shipped. There will be no actual purchase appearing on your statement until the device is shipped to you.

You can compare it to spending the night at a hotel. The manager swipes your card, but doesn’t actually charge you money until the next day when all is said and done.

I apologize for the misinformation I gave to you earlier, and hope this rectifies your issue.

So I guess yes, the full amount is “reserved”, and will remain on there until the device is shipped. I think that’s horse manure. Sure they say they won’t actually fully charge you, BUT you can’t touch that money in there, which is the same f’n thing. I mean, wtf? Why not just charge you the full amount at time of order rather than put that amount in a reserved state? Doesn’t make any freaking sense. That is just lame as hell.

When pre-ordering items through Amazon, they don’t actually charge you until the item has left their warehouse, so why not Google? This is crazy.

Anyways, guess I’ll be waiting until Monday or Tuesday to pre-order the Nexus 7. Ah well…

          • Bionic

so if you dont want an authorization on your main bank account, I would use a credit card or something

  • Pedro

Hey! there was no unlocked thingy when it booted. Is that a real Nexus device? I don’t think so…

    • That only shows up once you unlock it…

    • will bartlett

have you unlocked a nexus before?

  • FortitudineVincimus

    • siphyn

Honestly, I also agree. It’s ugly compared to the ICS and Honeycomb boot animations before it. Either way, its just a boot animation. Something I rarely have to look at.

  • nightscout13

Trippy…..i like the techy feel to the animation

  • 4n1m4L

    That’s gorgeous

  • rohicks

It’s the play logo … ICS is better IMO.

  • Sven Enterlein

Honestly, I’m glad the boot animation is so fast. What’s up with all these psychedelic boot animations since Honeycomb? I stick with the good ol’ retro boot animation found on XDA

    • EvanTheGamer

You should see the custom one I have on my Nexus. lol

  • Icehunter

Was that video taken on the S3 you had at the Lookout party? =)

    • Icehunter

p.s. that boot screen is shiny.

      • 4n1m4L

        Edit: Durr hour dear huurr
