As a part of the June Android security update today, Google is issuing another set of new features to their Pixel phones with a fresh Pixel Feature Drop. In this latest drop, Google is adding a new astrolapse camera feature, improved copying and pasting in Gboard, easier ways to accept or reject calls, and a bunch of Pride-themed wallpapers and ringtones.
The first, which we found out about last week, is a new astrophotography mode that not only captures photos, it’ll now create a video of the stars moving across the sky. When you fire up Night Sight to capture the stars, your camera will automatically save both photo and video to your phone. This is available on Pixel 4 and newer devices.
In Gboard, when you copy text that includes phone numbers or email addresses or URLs, the “important pieces of the information suggested in the clipboard” will now show in the suggestions in a clearer way. Check out how it’ll look here.
Also now, when someone calls you, you can say “Hey Google, answer call” or “Hey Google, reject call” to deal with whoever is ringing you at the moment. I know that swiping a call away is easy enough, but this is a neat trick for those times where you don’t want to do that or your phone isn’t within reach.
And finally for new stuff, Google is adding three new Pride wallpapers (below) and ringtones and notifications. Be on the lookout for these as your Google-related apps update on Google Play in the coming days.
As for other stuff, Google is highlighting Google Photos Locked Folder, Digital Wellbeing warning you to be careful while walking and using your phone, car crash detection, call screening, and transcribe in Recorder as being new bonuses to the Pixel line. A lot of this stuff has been around in the US or was just announced at I/O, but Google is expanding to new countries. To find out specifics, hit up this post or look below at the chart of features and where they are available now.
Grab that update!

Waiting for the people who call others snowflakes to be triggered by the wallpapers
So I have the Verizon version of the Pixel 5 and did get the June update, however, I am not seeing the new drop features. Like the Locked Photos folder, or the astrolapse camera feature. I am seeing the LGBTQIA wallpapers, but not sure of some of the others…. Can you get some of the drops, but not all?
It can take up to 2 weeks for all phones to be updated especially for server side updates. Make sure you also update the apps and webview via playstore.
Alright, I will give it a bit of time.
So this is the second pixel drop I believe that the Pixel 4 XL hasn’t got anything. The phone is under two years old I believe so where’s our love too? Is Google starting to be like Sammy and picking and choosing what phones get the new stuff? If that’s the case why have a Pixel phone then….
What are you talking about? The Pixel 4 series is absolutely included in this feature drop. That includes the XL variant.
I haven’t gotten anything new on my end…Also if it was listed I’d assume the 4XL was getting the new stuff. Nothing new here still for me
It can take up to two weeks after the push date for everyone to end up with the new features. Make sure you update you security patch in settings, and all of your apps in the app store.
Depending on your carrier or if you’re rooted, you may need to sideload your updates. All Pixel devices going back 3 years get these features, so the XL variant is not randomly excluded.
My guy are you high or something? The Pixel 4 is shown on the table above and it’s getting literally every feature announced. There hasn’t been a feature drop where it got skipped lmfao.
…wait what’s a Pride ringtone?
Night Sight time lapse is cool, but man, these Pixel Drops have been kind of a joke.
I probably won’t find any answer to this but I’m curious why the Call Actions on Google Assistant is something that the Pixel 3/3A cannot do. Similar to why 3A cannot perform car crash detection. I am hoping someone can port the video astrophotography mode via a GCam mod though. Not that I’d have a lot to capture of stars moving but it’d be interesting to see what video it would make if I forced astrophotography to be on to capture more light and whatever I’m capturing moved some
I’m hoping this will be included in Beta 2
Counting themed wallpapers as a feature is laughable
When it’s anything that has to do with LGBTQIA+, then it has to be listed as a “feature”
No updates on the developer site either
Nothing for my Pixel 5 either
No updates available on my pixel 4 xl
I checked and updated my P-4XL 6/8 @ 3pm.
146mb then afterwards some apps updated.
Hopefully Google will do something to improve battery life on this phone. Mine sucks!
