  • i dont like the fact i cant tag photos when uploading pics. i dont like not being able to see the friends list of your friends from their profile. when you are requested to be a friend and it lists they have mutual friends, it doesnt pull up those people. other than that the fb app is pretty cool. i really do miss the tag feature from blackberry!

  • The original application on my Droid was much better! Not all notifications are received….and then try to reply to an update? You can't without going to the persons wall to make a comment. Wish they could fix this sooner rather than later. Checking fb via the Droid is pretty much pointless now!

  • Try turning off the contact sync in the facebook app. I don't get FCs anymore. Plus have the built in facebook/contact sync.

  • personally, i dont understand why people just dont access it through their browsers like you would on your pc.

  • Still takes you to “mobile.facebook.com” when you click on a notification… not even the touch site. FAIL.

  • Hate this! At my office, while in its dock, the main page (shown above) only shows in portrait mode, will not flip to landscape. Also notifications and posts do not update when I click on update- only update at the set interval. I want the old app back!
We didn't want notifications toopen in the brower- why isn't that fixed?

  • The addition of Events is a big deal for me. It makes it much easier to find the address of an event and automatically load it up in Google Maps Navigation for turn by turn instructions.

There is also a huge speed improvement over the old app. It would just take forever for stuff to populate the screen. Now the facebook app works just like every other app….stuff loads quickly without an inexplicable delay. There's also pinch to zoom on photos which is cool.

  • Events invite notifications! That actually open the invite!!! I can't wait to see what they fix in the next update 9 months from now!

  • I have an Incredible and I installed the updated fbook app and now when I click “friends”, it FC's any clue why, my friend has an X and his works fine, no one on the Inc forums have mentioned it either…anyone else having that problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled, still doens't work.

  • Try gochat!facebook its really really good. And its free though they so have a paid adfree version.

  • they are getting closer and closer to perfection, but they are taking the longest route there!

  • Perhaps this has been mentioned already (I don't have time to read through the 139 comments), but if you have a themed version of the Facebook widget (which many of you probably do if you're rooted and running a themed, custom ROM) this upgrade will undo the theme.

  • i love how this screenshot shows the bug on the Droid X where the 3G antenna tries to stay on when you're connected to a wifi network. in my case, it prevents my phone from going to sleep. -_-

  • Is anyone having issues with the update? I am running CM RC2 with the alternate dark theme on my D1, and I keep getting “update failed” messages, and now I don't have face book. Help please!

  • It downloads fine for me, but when I try to install it it says “Installation unsuccessful”.

  • Right direction…I would like the ability to be able to tag pictures, delete friends, chat, and all the other stuff I do on facebook to be easy to do on this as well. Good step…lets just get a big team working on this. 500 Million users…and the app is light years away!

  • Seven months later and this is what the Facebook devs give us? So now we are somewhere inbetween having the same functionality as the Blackberry app and the iPhone app. ZUCKERBERG!!!

  • bottom line – needs to be self contained (not having notifications open up in browser) like bloo is. until it surpasses bloo, i'm not using it.

    • hahaha i saw that video, that guy needs to puff puff give before he flies away lol

  • And you STILL can't click on a person and see photos OF them. You can see photos they posted, or their profile album, but you can't browse through photos tagged of somebody.

  • Is there some way to turn off the new “view 40 comments at a time” thing on the droid-life site? That is seriously getting annoying.

    • it is pretty annoying. i figure it has something to do with all the new guys we got today and not crashing this site. that would make me sad :'(

    • It's there for us moderators and the site makes things easier with high traffic volume

  • Hope I can sort out running Froyo on Droid 1, every app is now apparently running at once for some reason. Running very slow, especially this new facebook took me 10 minutes to get it open. Had to uninstall stuff like skype that wouldn't turn off no matter what options I set.

    • were they updating? When I first went to froyo that was a problem many of us had.

  • God i hate the picture thing on the bottom. It makes me look like a pedo when my friends are like, “why do you have a picture of this on facebook…”

  • too many comments to read through but if you install the aim app you can sync your fb chat to the aim buddy list

  • Damn just noticed that now facebook runs in the background as a service even if I set it to Never Refresh, WTF is that!!!!

  • look better but not sure if it is really better I don't see any improvement so far,
the notification links still take me to the touch or mobile site, the photos do not show how many comment a photo has so I still have to click comment to see if there are comments, and no tagging (but tagging is not biggie), still do not flip portrait photos when I update it, etc etc, seems to be only a skin update

    • i use the full site so i was curious if you set your browser to desktop instead of android if it would take you to the full site instead of the touch site

      • no it never takes me to the full site it goes to the mobile site (m.facebook.com) or to the touch site (touch.facebook.com) but I hate the fact that takes me out of the app, and just notice know that facebook runs a service in teh background even if a had it set to Never Refresh, I am not liking this new version of facebook I'm planning to go back to the old version

        • i meant did you check your browsers user agent. I think its auto set to android (mobile) but you can set it to desktop so it opens the regular internet versions instead. menu, more, settings, user agent – path for dolphin browser anyhow

  • Well atleast if you want to use facebook chat on your android you can use aim mobile and set up your facebook chat friends though that 🙂

  • And we still cant watch videos in the app itself. on crappy i*hone you can if im rite. i hate it.

  • I was extremely excited when I saw the update, but then I realized that notifications still takes me to the mobile site. I really like the new UI though, but it would be nice for it to be up to speed with the app on iOS. I actually don't even care for chat.

  • now is this a update fior the pre installed version of facebook or the one you download in the market. i dont get it. D1

    • that's what the full site is for 🙂

(now, why won't facebook just allow me to go STRAIGHT TO THE FULL SITE?)

      • I do go straight there. I use dolphin hd. I opened the full site, logged in, and then menubutton, bokmarks. I also have the dolphin bookmark widget which shows you the webpage of 6 sites, just touch and your there. Also, make sure you change your settings in your browser so that “user agent” is set to desktop

        • I go to the full site all the time in the stock browser, you have to turn off the mobile site or there’s a link or some such nonsense at the bottom of the mobile page. You just can’t get back to the mobile site after until you kill and restart the browser

  • Still crappy notifications….why cant we get full notifications? And a full app, not shortcuts to the webpage? Better…but not there yet

  • Erin Andrews and her sister? Introduce me!

I wish the official Facebook for Android would let you increase the frequency of notifications. Until then, Bloo is still the best Facebook app even though it is getting pretty old at this point. Supposedly the dev that wrote is is releasing “Bloo Too” soon.

  • Well that's better, but I still use the browser on “full site” because the app is so gimped. They could do so much better on Android.

  • Hey guys – general, off topic question. Is it possible to replace a single file on your phone without having root? I'm trying to manually install 2.2, and it keeps bombing on the same file. After some research, it turns out it's the wifi driver – so I'm trying to figure out if there's some way I can fix that file myself or if I have to wait for the OTA. (This would explain why my wifi hasn't worked for a while, though…) And also – do you think the OTA would replace the corrupted file with a good one?

    • That sounds like it’s probably a system file, which means you can’t delete it without root access. If you installed an alternate recovery (e.g. SPRecovery) then you could wipe your phone and put on a better full version of android. Just sayin, it’s totally worth it.

  • Why cant anyone believe in android. Heavy gunner 3d..need for speed all run better or same as on the iphone yet they make the same apps crappier when they can run better. why?

  • still not on par with the touch version, it's really embarrassing as an android user…

  • Meh; personally, I find the “touch” site (and all the apps I've seen, on Droid and back on WinMo) are always WAY behind my live feed. The only way I've found to get pretty much up to date info on FB is to go to their “m.facebook.com” site in the browser.

    • I just use the normal facebook site (not the mobile version) on my Droid. You get the most of features that way and pretty much everything works except for maybe photo uploading. But that you can easily do from the Gallery app.

    • Me too, but I can’t switch to ‘most recent’ for status updates. Can’t get it to work well either way.

  • Those of you with a DX… We got our sync with existing contacts back! Now no need to use blur to pull in facebook photos or all your facebook friends to get the ones on your phone! About time, damn you Blur. Yes, I know its easy to get rid of with any other launcher…

  • I use the Facebook chat all the time. I just set the Full site in my favorites so i can get to facebook with 1 touch. works great.

  • When I go to the android market and search facebook, it doesn't show that there's an update available?

  • I downloaded this yesterday for my Droid X and its a great app. Easy to navigate.

    • I know, right? This is so frustrating. What's the point – isn't the first thing everyone does is click through all the notifications to see what's been posted and what not? You may as well just stick to the touch version in the browser if you have to keep jumping back and forth. Meh. Can't wait till they fix this. Other updates are pretty interesting though – a step in the right direction methinks.

      • this is probably the biggest complaint of everyone. This update is a nice start, but there’s some flaws in it, like the photos on the bottom slurps down ALL photos on ALL posts — even the pages I’m a fan of, not just my friends.

Other tiny little apps run as their own browser all the time — why not fb? I guess we’ll have to wait till v 1.4 is released in 6 months…sigh

      • Well the rest of the app is very well designed IMO, so there has to be a reason. As a programmer myself, I guess it makes sense that if they’re reading a notification ‘record’ that is generated by the facebook web app, there may be nothing in that ‘record’ that the android app can use to reference the specific post the record is linked to within the android app. The record would likely have the url of the post, which is probably why they have to link to the external browser.

Hopefully they figure out a way around it in the next update. It’s so snappy moving in and out of posts, it would be absolutely awesome if the app could internally handle references in notifications.

  • Let's see how it goes. I have been missing the BlackBerry version of Facebook for a while. Downloading now.

        • If by better device you mean… clearly not better in really any aspect, you would be correct.

You trolls are too easy to coax out.

          • Bleep bloop.. my phone is better than your phone.. bleep bloop.. cognitive dissonance ..bleep bloop

          • Until you go to google voice, which you realize Lord Jobs censored for no apparent reason

          • And can you switch from Pandora to the regular music player with one click on your home screen while viewing the score to (insert favorite team's) game right on your home screen? Wait that's complicated and useful, therefore it isn't as “user friendly”. I'm sorry, I need to make sure things aren't too complicated to set up before I try to think of a way that Android and its customizability is better than the i*hone

          • You can download an app… that makes a tropical island. Then it transforms itself into a jet to take you there. FTMFW!

          • Too bad you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you had seen any review comparing the two, you would know that the antenna on the iphone 4 has major issues with signal loss when not held properly. Also, if you saw any review video comparing iphone to android 2.2 devices you would see that the android browser outruns iphone in a head to head wifi test. Also the specs are quite lacking compared to high end android phones like the Droid X, Incredible, and N1. I dare you to have an actual real argument based on truth and facts and not ignorant bias.

          • I realllly wish this guys comments hadn’t been removed. After reading all the users here absolutely verbally destroying him, trying to imagine the kind of ignorant and horribly prepared arguments he is trying to make just isn’t doing it for me. :/

          • I basically said the iPhone Facebook app had more features than the android one so everyone wanted to argue

          • “The iPhone makes much more of a lifestyle and social statement than an Android phone makes,” Finegold said. “People interested in an Android are looking for horsepower.”

Cut and pasted from an article on CNN.com. Need I say more?

          • only reason id use an i*hone is for itunes, but theres an ipod touch for those kind of people, so…… i guess i wouldnt use an i*hone

          • i did and that “cheap thing” cost more, and does more, than the freaking ipad mini. I seriously doubt you’ve ever picked up a Droid, Incredible, X, etc….. I don’t understand why you’re commenting on this site in the first place. I’ve never had an urge to go on “ilovetheiphone.com” and make dissenting comments about the iphone. I have more things to do than be a troll. By the way, how do you like your phone case? I like mine, but I can still make calls on my phone if I remove it

          • i suppose you didnt “upgrade” to the iphone4.

Edit: And Joel Seph above made a good point, the iphone could be a lot better if it werent crippled. It just seems like its a “dumbed down” smartphone. It seems like they hold back capabilities on purpose just to doop the blind followers into buying the new iphone or ipod that can “now” do something other mp3 players or phones could do a year or two ago. They should start making their phones like they do their computers

          • You be surprise what quality the hardware of the iPhone is made of but Apple wont tell you that! Crack open your iPhone. The iPhone is a great device (notice giving respect) but it has its pros and cons as well. A device is as good as its software.

          • Please dood – the iPhone could be so great, but it’s inexplicably crippled. It may be awesome by some peoples’ standards but to say better is just flat-out BS. Apples and oranges. If I want a shiny phone that is easy to do because have a crippled OS holding my hand through everything, I pick the iPhone. If I want a customizeable device that will do almost anything I can think of for free, I go Android.

The iPhone is like the AOL of Smartphones. It’s not a real Smartphone, just like AOL isn’t the real internet. And it creates VERY annoying users that are belligerently obsessed with the iPhone for no other reason than because it’s an iPhone.

        • If you like a phone you cant use but everynow and then on a HORRIBLE NETWORK, then yea better device.

    • BTW. Why are you in an android forum, vomitting at the mouth about ur MAGICAL BUMPER WEARING glass piece of S_ _ _ _ ! Move along hater………………………….
