Samsung is now expected to be preparing a second generation of the Galaxy Z TriFold for launch in 2027, after industry sources claim that the company is speaking with suppliers and preparing development.
The news isn’t all that shocking. After going on sale, the device would sell out nearly instantaneously, even though overall production volume seemed low — estimated to be around 30,000 units. The demand is there, so from Samsung’s perspective, why wouldn’t it make a Galaxy Z TriFold 2?
One potential issue will be the price. Galaxy Z TriFold launched with a price of $2,899. Due to the “RAM shortage” and increasing costs elsewhere, device prices have risen considerably. How much would a new Z TriFold 2 potentially cost? What improvements will have been made? Are we really looking at a $3,000+ smartphone here?
The report cites a new 4+4 strategy from Samsung. There could be 4 devices in H1, followed by 4 devices in H2. Next year, we could see the Galaxy S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra. Then, for the foldables, we’d have the Z Flip 9, Z Fold 9, Z Fold 9 Ultra, and Z TriFold 2. That’s a lot of hardware and a lot of options for buyers.
This, of course, isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a potential Galaxy S27 Pro. What the new report does contradict is previous intel suggesting that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 would be the last clamshell from Samsung. At this point, it’s too early to know exactly what Samsung’s plan is from the outside.
2027 is already sounding quite busy.
