  • If it looks like that I will buy instantly. The teal + white color option (which almost surely won’t actually exist) would be my pick.

  • This unofficial/official look seems to have a headphone jack on the top. If they keep that jack they might still get my money.

    • I think it depends on how you pick your phone up and out of your pocket mostly. So it’s all a preference.

      • Considering that people often use the 3.5 jack and the charging port at the same time, either in the car or in the bed, the jack should be on the same side as the charging port. it makes zero sense for the ports to be anywhere but next to each other.

        • I’m not one of those people. I’ve seen a good number of people who prefer it on top and some who prefer it on the bottom. It’s a preference. You have some people who put their phone in their pocket upside down. So naturally taking it out it’ll be right side up. People who prefer it on the bottom would love that. As far as charging and listening to music with headphones at the same time, I don’t really do that too often. Definitely when I’m not home. If I’m home, then I feel like I’m somewhere where I can play my music openly and loud. So why would I need my headphones on? Plus that means I would have to be stationary because of wired headphones while charging. I use bluetooth headphones for that exact reason. I can move about freely. Also, if you’re in the car I would think you would have it synced up with your Bluetooth to come through the speakers. I’m not wearing my headphones while I’m driving and charging the phone. If you’re the passenger, then maybe. But even then as a passenger I would think you’re a teen or child if you have your headphones in while in the car because you want to avoid your parents vices during the long drive.

But everyone isn’t me. So again, preference. Cons and pros to both based on your personal use is what I’m saying.

          • I think it comes down to two types of people:
            1. People who exercise or listen to music with 3.5mm in their pocket on-the-go
            2. People who listen to their music or take calls at home while on the charger

For scenario 1: Jack can be on top or bottom, doesn’t make much difference.
For scenario 2: It needs to be on the bottom to make sense.
If you do both things, then it would make most sense to go with a bottom jack.

Problem is that there are way more scenario 1 folks than there are scenario 2. I’m #2 because I don’t exercise or really use an aux device on-the-go 🙂

          • You prove my point of preference. That’s all I’m saying. No right or wrong.

I run at least 3 times a week. I’m wireless so I don’t care about the jack to be honest. Even before than it didn’t really matter to me.

At home I’m comfortable and in my own privacy so everything is playing out loud so no need for headphones.

          • True, but if you design a phone with a jack on the top, you are alienating people who charge and use AUX at the same time.

If you design a phone with jack on bottom, you shouldn’t be alienating anyone but a few weirdos who really want the jack on the top.

Jack on bottom = vast majority of public wins

          • Is aux needed when your car has Bluetooth? Did we do a study on this or are you representing everyone? This applies to anything in life. There will always be people who prefer this over that or that over this. I would argue that most people who charge in their car don’t need access to the headphone jack too. Not while in the car. All audio will come through the car speakers simply because it’s hooked up to the aux. That one action chargers the device.

Like I said, I’m neutral on the entire thing because it doesn’t bother my daily workflow.

          • Even in the car using Aux it makes more sense to have it at the bottom, especially for those with car mounts.

          • But why would you need access to the headphone jack in the car as a driver? I can see if you’re the passenger and chilling in the back seat on a family road trip zoned out listening to your own music. Wouldn’t you feel more comfortable allowing the audio to come through the car speakers? Outside of the car it’s a preference. Inside it is too, but imo pointless to need access to the jack as a driver if you have an aux, which take care of audio playing through the car speakers and chargers the device at the same time. That eliminates the use of it in that particular situation. Do you think you personally still need use for it as a driver?

          • Not all cars have bluetooth. My girlfriend has a 2012 Nissan that still uses aux if you want to listen to your own music. My best friend has a 2009 Silverado that doesn’t have bluetooth, just aux. My other friend has a 2008 Mazda 6 with only aux. My dad has a 2012 Toyota Tundra with only an auxiliary port, no bluetooth.

While you and I can enjoy the luxuries of bluetooth, not everyone can.

          • That’s true. Not everyone has Bluetooth, but doesn’t the aux still allow all audio to come through the speakers of the car? Which should allow you to freely talk, listen, and not need headphones?

          • Yes, aux connects through the headphone jack on your phone. The aux cable runs from the headphone jack to the aux jack in the car. Headphone jack and aux jack are the same exact port.

What I’m saying is when you plug in the aux cable to your phone when you’re in the car, you don’t want it coming out of the top of your phone. You lose cable length because the aux jack is usually below your phone, so if it’s on top then the cable would have to travel ~5″ more to reach the car’s aux port. Also if it’s on top and hanging down, it can easily cover your screen and you would be pushing it away. That would be annoying. It would also be easier to accidentally snag the cable.

Look how dumb this is. If they just put the jack on the bottom, it would be a lot cleaner and easier to maintain and use.

          • Understood. That can be a bothersome when using that from the top in the car.

        • I get that it would be annoying to such people but I personally don’t get charging a phone while using it for music. Especially since, in said situations, your usually on the computer which you can listen to music from thus voiding the need.

    • This. I really liked the blue of the og Pixel but the white front ruined it, made it look like a toy.

      • Disagree. I like the blue and white combination. The black would have made the blue look washed-out.

    • I think Google should have one solid color all on the back like in their Google logo colors and black fronts, and the traditional all black and silver/white one.

  • I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted something as much as I want that red version to be real.

  • i don’t see any huge compelling reasons to spend a probable $649+ to replace my Nexus 6P with this. i think i’ll wait until the Pixel XL 3.

    • As someone who got rid of his 6P for the first gen Pixel, believe me when i say you’re really missing out.

        • The camera alone was worth the upgrade to me. Big improvement in picture quality, and the free storage at full resolution for Pixel photos/videos phones was a big draw too. Also, the Pixel is definitely faster, snappier, and another than the 6P. I will admit, however, that the loss of the front facing speakers was a bummer, but i learned to live with it.

          • not even close enough to be worth my $649+. in fact, it sounds like a downgrade in many ways.

          • The only real downgrade to me was losing front facing speakers, but to each their own. ????

  • Had a lot of black phones. I’d love to see it in silver or gun metal grey. silver all around. Not like my mostly white “Very silver” pixel xl.

  • In No way Official, just a bored 3d artist showing off about 1-2 hours worth of work, but still nice to see. (Coming from another 3d artist)

  • They made the phone look damn sexy. I would love if Google would actually release a phone with that many color options. I’d go red back & black front or blue back & black front fo sho!

  • Nice mock up of the rumored pictures. My only gripe is the camera placement. Could they’ve just switched the flash and other business with the lens?

    • I thought that, too, after seeing the last render that came out…but I figure it’s due to the curve angle of that corner. Likely the lens materials don’t fit properly in that curve, but the flash/sensors do.

  • all red or all red and black…i’m dropping this Mate 9 quick fast and in a hurry.

  • Give me red, a white front, stereo speakers and I’m DEAD until next year.

  • The black glass on the back ruins the red one for me. I need red glass that blends like the glass on the teal (?) one. That phone is beautiful even though I’d never get that color.

I will be sticking with the white/silver otherwise.

    • And I’m just the opposite; the red and black looks freaking awesome together, IMO. I’d kill for that phone with a black faceplate on it! I really, really want a red and black, or a blue and black phone this time around. 🙂

      • Same red and black are great together and gives some contrast to the back. To me giant uninterrupted blocks of red can be garish (though many would say the same about red on black). But I think we can all agree that the red should have a black front. I don’t understand why all these people think color should mean white front …

      • I’m heavily biased cuz those are my favorite colors in the first place, and I’ve bought the same Incipio red and black case on my current and previous phone, but I second this. I would be all over that phone, it’s gorgeous.

  • I was really hoping that the Very Blue would have a black front to it, but that red one is hot. I’m sold. Trading in my wife’s S7E for one as soon as it’s available.

      • I wouldn’t mind both. Personally, I’m a fan of white fronts due to their ability to mask fingerprints and dusties, but I can see the allure of a black front.

        • That is a good point, white does hide fingerprints. But all black just looks so clean and hides sensors and cameras and al lthat.

          • Plus that little gap between where the actual pixels light up and a white front give that small band of black. It annoys me (total first-world problem). A black from is my preference.

          • I do get what you mean but compared to other white phone’s like the iPhone 7 or HTC 10 it was incredibly minimal on last year’s Pixel.

          • Totally understand. You like what you like. If that little gripe didn’t exist and the LCD was flush with the bezels I’d love a pure white phone.

“There’s something about this that’s so white, it’s like how much more white could this be? And the answer is none. None more white.”

          • Plus, with the 18:9 displays now and most video content still at 16:9, we’ll be getting wide black bars on the sides of videos.

          • So long as it doesn’t have a zillion like the S8 I can deal with that versus pulling out an all black phone and seeing smudges, lint, and all that everywhere, especially outside in the sun.
