  • Just like the A9 was $500 but it was $400 at launch. Smart way to control demand. You pay $700 if you’re willing to pay that much. You get it for $600 from one of the perennial sales that’s sure to follow in the future, just like the A9 was discounted almost every Tuesday.

  • Am I crazy in actually thinking this looks like a really nice phone? Maybe the pre hype of the Samsung and LG just kind of over shadowed the HTC, but I rent think this looks like a should choice.

  • Ordered! As someone who goes through a lot of phones (like many of us) for some reason HTC almost gives me a type of nostalgia. I remember when I got the m8. Loved that phone. Cheated on it with the G3 and Moto ☓ and actually went back to it twice! Can’t wait! Please be everything we are hoping for.

    • My first phone was the HTC Incredible. I loved how it would show the rain and wipers or sun shining in the clock/weather widget. Sometimes it’s the smallest things. Anyway at the time was one of the best phones out there.

  • After rocking an s4 since it launched, I’ve been waiting out cycle after cycle for something to push me past my sim slot defective s4. And here it is. This phone is a $100 off stunning, unlocked, bloatless capacitive button marvel. I just pre ordered. Thanks att for not offering it. I won’t have to disable 20 of your crapps

  • how do I get this phone on Verizon? or do I have to wait for it to be announced? someone help. I’m ready to order now

      • yeah after doing some research I’ve realized that’s what I have to do. thank you! (hopefully they get that red or a blue one)

    • Did you go on the Verizon site? I signed up to be notified as soon as it is available.

      • I’m looking for that option but I don’t see it. maybe it’s because I was on the mobile version

  • Too bad there’s no sign the unlocked (GSM) version will work on Verizon, or I might almost be tempted with this.

    • I read from the bitter, jaded , reviewer on Android Authority that when a Verizon SIM was added, it connected to LTE on Verizon, acted like it was thinking, then rejected the LTE connection. No cell signal was received. No idea what that means.

  • MSRP $699.00??? I do like HTC but $699 is too much… considering ATT will not carry it …. My choice comes down to New Moto or S7

    • Considering the GS7 is $700 from ATT ($800 if you want the Edge version), I’m not sure what your point is here. This is now $600 and arguably better overall.

  • HTC looks to be pulling a Blackberry Priv with the price anyway. They know anyone with brains will pass on $700 and so they’re throwing out the $100 pre-order coupon to people who know better. Everyone else who doesn’t care or isn’t a tech enthusiast is going to be contributing an extra $100 to the Save HTC fund.

  • anyone had previous experience buying from htc store? should i buy it from there or tmobile store? which one offers better RMA?

  • Is it just me or it feels like every new piece of info about this phone gets better and better… almost feels like one of those late night infomercials, “but wait, there’s more!”

Is it possible that HTC turned over their entire marketing department and now actually knows what they’re doing??

  • Has anyone noticed that since carriers started going away from contracts/subsidized phones to monthly phone payments, these devices have become more expensive?

  • If only Samsung didn’t waterproof the S7, this would be my next phone. An all metal build instead of fragile glass, front facing speaker, and higher internal storage options are my only qualms with the S7. As someone who destroyed a phone once due to liquid damage, I may have to go with the S7. Aside from that, HTC 10 is perfect, assuming the camera is up to snuff.

    • I swam in a pool with my voyager for an hour. I made a mistake and won’t make it again. “HTC 10. For those of you who want the best phone on the market… and can learn from you mistakes.” Also they give you a new free phone for a year if you decide you really need it when you go swimming.

      • I get the implication here, but it’d be nice to not have to worry about water damage even being a mistake I could make. It’s raining out? Don’t have to worry about keeping your phone perfectly dry. Going on a boat or hanging out by the pool? Don’t need to keep your phone tucked away in case of a splash.

You could even say the same thing about cases in general. Let’s not use a case and just learn to take better care of our phones. Sure, it’s possible and even practical, but many people would prefer the peace of mind and not having to take such careful care of their phone. It’s an extension of that mindset which many people have.

        • I have had a M8 for about 2 years now. I have never had any issue with water at all. Been through rain storms and on many boating trips. There is even a video of it being submerged in water… IP rating is a super safe rating… same reason why the manufacture under boosts cars with stock turbos… just to be extra safe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhwvXTVQoPM

      • Went ahead and placed the order to get the deal while I mulled it over. Already received an email that they are processing my order and should get a status update in 48 hrs.

  • So they priced it too high on purpose, then give people discounts to make them feel good for a phone that should have been priced at $599 to begin with.

  • Note: ALL SALES ARE FINAL ….NO RETURNS ALLOWED WHEN ORDERING THROUGH HTC WEBSITE.

This is a change in policy .

    • Hmm I’m not sure about that.

From their website return policy: http://bit.ly/1Nn3pPZ
“The HTC.com America store by Digital River refund policy: Orders can be canceled any time prior to shipment. Products may be returned within 30 days of the date the Product was shipped to you and must be returned with the applicable proof of purchase. Cancellation and return rights do not apply to custom orders that have been personalized or modified specially for you, including products that have been built to order. If a Product has been damaged, repaired or is missing parts, it may not be accepted for return and refund. You will be responsible for the cost of returning the product to us.”

    • Better clarification of the DR terms of sale;
ALL ACCEPTED ORDERS ARE FINAL, NON-CANCELABLE AND NON-REFUNDABLE, EXCEPT AS SPECIFIED IN THE RETURNS POLICY APPLICABLE TO YOUR PURCHASE.
And the return policy is fairly normal.

  • I just ordered one for myself and one for my wife.
I’m thinking HTC is going to try and fill the void Motorola was in before Lenovo took over.
    Near stock, high end specs.

  • Ok now this tempting. Hmmm…If unlocked works with 4G on Verizon, may have a hard time turning this down. This or Nexus. Grrr. Is the return policy 30 days even if activated? Never returned a phone, but in case I don’t like it, I like the safety net.

  • Has anybody ordered with Paypal Credit? Tempted to try it since it’s no interest for 12 months. But when I go to apply, the terms for Paypal credit show 19.99% for standard purchases. I haven’t actually applied yet, so this is not based on any credit check. Does this *not* apply as a standard purchase?

    • Assuming you get approved, it’s a promotional purchase that is eligible for the no interest for 12 months. However, if you don’t pay it off in 12 months, the accrued interest for the entire 12 months become due, all of which is at the 19.99%. That’s the standard for any promotional purchases.

I only do purchases with promotional interest through stores I shop often, like Amazon and Best Buy. That we I don’t apply for 2 many credit accounts. You apply ones, keep those accounts and use them for promotional purchases. Never use them for regular purchases if you don’t intend on paying off the bill each month. Otherwise, the interest is way too high.

  • Good deal. Let’s hope this isn’t a one day discount. If they keep it at this price it will be competitive

  • Still not even close to worth it. If it started at $499-$100 promotion then the deal would be compelling. Hard to get updates for 2 years when the company gets bought out/files for bankruptcy.

    • They have to spend money on good, quality, prime time marketing if they want to have a remote chance of making a dent.

  • Idk about you guys but this was in an email I got. Open to to anyone, not just current owners.

  • Same thing Samsung did with its S7, price your phone high and offer “deals” to create an increase with impulse buyers as well as those on the verge of this versus a similar phone. Under promise and over deliver.

  • If you increment the last number even from 1009 to 1010, the codes appear to work. Dunno if just cart retention, but doing HTC100X explicitly states invalid promo code where the increments didn’t.

    • Samsung had bogo about 1 day after mass release, and gear or vr details on preorder. Serms like the norm versus exception now a days

      • Including goodies is different than knocking $100 off the price out of the gate. And bogos are only for contract/new lines, you can’t walk in and buy an s7 full retail and get another free.

        • wow, don’t get so worked up. All your first post said was “Deals already”. All I did was point out other phones had ‘deals’ as well. Not the same deals, maybe less appealing ones to some, maybe more appealing ones to others. My main point went right over the head, which is that it seems like it is becoming the norm to have all kinds of deals at release to lure you into the phone. I was more agreeing with you versus debating. but not a big deal
I get ‘goodies’ is different. but it is still a deal they are trying to use.

      • Those are carrier deals only. I would have bought two already off contract if that was the case.

  • No phone is worth over $500. You talking almost two weeks of working at a minimum wage job to buy. Silly. And, HTC offering a $100 coupon after a couple hours of launching its own phone just shows how badly marked up these phones are.

    • People making minimum wage should probably not be buying current-year flagship smartphones.

    • How many high end phones can you even get for $500? Sure a lot of phones at lower price points work well but they usually cut a lot of corners to get to that point. They will get you going with a pretty good experience and might fit every basic requirement but if you are looking to get a phone with all of the bells and whistles then you are going to have to pay a flagship price. That’s just the nature of the beast.

    • If you have a minimum wage job, you shouldnt buy a flagship. Sounds harsh but its the truth !

        • ppl should set their priorities straight. one can barely afford to live, meanwhile thinking about flagship phones !

        • Phones do cost $200 or less to manufacture so that puts the business in entitlement mode to want 3x their cost. but I digress.

          • The market determines the price. That’s a far cry from someone complaining that they can’t afford a premium device on minimum wage pay..

          • While normally not so black and white. In the case of a luxury device OEM asking for a price. They either get or they don’t based in what people can are willing to pay.

I’m not trying to argue the virtues of capitalism or anything like that. Just saying…if someone doesn’t make enough to afford a luxury device…that’s not the manufacturers fault.

          • lol and look where we are. Muslim hating country toting guns and voting for Dump

          • No no tyler… the whole world. Capitalism rebuilt the european countries that were absolutely destroyed… decimated. Maybe you would like the dictatorship that was the middle east.. well no you would be dead for speaking your mind… well lets try the failed communist country that is now socialist north korea… or russia before the fall of communism.. or sweden.. the model of socialism… that was bent over and absolutely destroyed by germany. The fact you have a computer and can speak your mind is thanks to capitalism. You and your parents owe your lives to it. without it (in britain and the US) Germany would own the world right now and would have been able to complete their genocide. but who am I right… You must know better.

    • I agree; I make a good living and wouldn’t pay over $500 for a phone. My last 2 phones were $350 on Swappa, less than a year old, and worked perfectly.

      • It’s a hobby for many. Would you pay $3k for a DSLR body? Or $100k for a sports car? Or $600 kicks?

        • Nope to all, but I have paid a lot more for jewelry (still, jewelry lasts a lot longer than a phone). It’s just that you can get phones that are a lot cheaper and do the same things. Android is a hobby for me too, but all the more reason to be a little more frugal with something I know will last a max of 2 years, more likely just one year.

          • See, I wouldn’t spend much money on jewelry either, I see no point in buying something for that much money that serves no purpose other than showing off how much money you can spend on your appearance. There’s a lot $600 phones can do that $300 phones can’t. Sure you could say they all make calls, can text, and send emails, but if that’s all you use your phone for then you might as well just use an OG Droid.

  • This is why we can’t have anything nice… That code is supposed to be for existing HTC owners, not just anyone. Now that it has been published, I wonder how long it will last (of course, HTC should have known that would happen. Need to send individualized discount codes to known customers if you are really trying to reward brand loyalty).

    • The entire world is sellable for profit, so IMO just take it if you’re interested while it last… What more concerns you as an individual?

It’s not like HTC couldn’t see that one coming

  • Ughh I really wanted to wait for reviews before purchasing but that’s a great deal right out the gate. Decisions decisions..

      • Actually, with the high end audio hardware, specs and focus on speed, this phone is far more attractive than a Nexus and definitely way more than a Moto to me. Even might sway me over an S7. Need to compare before making a decision though. Waiting for some photo comparisons in particular.

      • Horrible processor but you get better updates. I would choose HTC or go cheap and get a 5x at this point. The 810 is crap

          • 810 is an excellent processor and still is. Heck the 805 is great processor in the N6 and Note 4. maybe he had a bad experience

          • Yeah, I love my 6P. It’s a little big but other than that it’s champ in just about every category I can think of. Just curious what others use cases are

        • Have you used the 6P? It’s a fantastic phone with great performance, and doesn’t overheat. It’s way faster than my S7 Edge with the 820.

        • Well, my Turbo 2 has the 810, and it is smooth, fast, and stutter free. And I have never had it get hot.

        • False. My 6P is the smoothest Android phone I’ve used to date. It rarely stutters, never overheats, and I personally have not had a build quality issue yet. Large size is it’s only downfall to me. If this phone was 5.5″ – I’d never sell it.

    • How do you know? The phone isn’t out yet, you have no idea how it looks, performs, or lasts in-hand.

      • How do know it’s not? You’ve never had it in hand or used it to see how it performs.

        • I’m not the one making the claim it’s the best phone for the price without seeing it in person or seeing any reviews. I never said it wasn’t, just that there’s no way to know right now.

          • Good point. But if I was a betting man, I’d bet this thing is going to smoke any phone in this price range.

      • We know the specs. What better device for 599 you can find now? 6P? no S7? meh maybe but TouchWiz.

        • The 6p is at least $100 cheaper. And with a sale you can get it even cheaper. Picked mine up for $450.

          • But 6P is not better. For 599$ for brand new device with these specs is a good price. One pay check from one week or less for some people.

          • We don’t know which phone is better yet. Slight improvements on a spec sheet may mean nothing once the manufacturer skin is installed. There are substantive differences between the phone that would make one better to another person.I don’t think $599 is a bad price at all. But it’s not clear it’s the best phone at that price.

      • I should have one in a couple of hours. If it’s the unlocked model, I’ll toss a Verizon SIM in and see.

        • I am patiently awaiting your response… In all seriousness, if it works I will pull the trigger today. I love my Nexus 6…but this package and camera seems right up my alley.

        • The Unlocked version is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile. The HTC 10 will be available for Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint soon.

          • Though it states that on the purchase page, it also shows the unlocked model as supporting the same bands as Verizon uses.

          • Just trying to help. Id think if it did theyd let people purchase this for use on verizon or sprint. It also says this: Simply insert your AT&T or T-Mobile SIM to begin using your HTC 10.* Sprint compatibility requires separate hardware

          • Since Verizon won’t activate any device not approved by them, that likely could be why. It would not mean it would not work, but they likely would not want to advertise it that way if you could not buy one then walk into a Verizon store to activate it. If that were the case and you already have a SIM, it would work just fine.

        • Please let us know right when you find out! This will be my next phone if it works on Verizon!

        • Kudos for being super interactive Kellex. I do some videos on YouTube for different tech, but even I struggle sometimes to keep up to speed with comments and such. It’s cool to see you guys so active on stuff like this 🙂

        • May I ask for a full walkthrough of Sense 8.0 (Not Freestyle)???? I want to see the new Googley Sense

        • This is critical. I’ll wait to see what you find since my work phone is VZW..

      • “The Unlocked version is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile. The HTC 10 will be available for Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint soon.”

      • Also, they are oddly specific that it will not work with Sprint, but not Verizon…
