DROID X Full Page Ad Takes Shot at iPhone

The Droid X pre-sale at Best Buy may have come to an end, but the marketing campaign for this new device from Verizon is just getting started.  The New York Times today featured a full page ad for the newest Droid family member that managed to slip in a shot at the new i*hone and its growing list of issues…

“And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design.  The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”

Poor i*hone.  The Droid X will definitely be here on July 15th.

Cheers Stephan and Louis!

  • Good to hear that The New York Times today featured a full page ad for the newest Droid family member.

  • july 15,2010 is already gone and July 12, 2011 will coming in next few months but Motorola your product is absent fron India market and UK market….

  • Funny how they were almost out of the business soon after the iPhone came out and are just barely hanging on at the moment. Have your fun for now though, wont last long..

  • Definitely is an upgrade over the tiny distorted picture on the current call screen. And is that a twitter status below the picture too?

  • Hello friends,The preorders for the X wont start until the 13th and only available over the internet. May be common knowledge but it was the first I heard of it.

  • I think they were talking about having the double antenna so you can hold it anyway you like BEFORE the iphone issue was widespread and well known.

  • I can not be on the phone and surf the web or send pic messages at the same time ..it bugs for some reason.. does any one know if the droid x will allow u to do these things simutaneously …..thank u

  • The screen shouldn’t have yellow spots on it,the volume buttons should be in the right place, and the proximity sensor should work.

  • The people @ Motorola have got to quit with that eFuse nonsense before they ever say a WORD against Apple…

  • The screen should’t have yellow spots on it, the volume buttons should be in the right place, and the proximity sensor should work.

  • Nice, that’s helpful for me!

  • Nice information,The caller ID photos are the ones Google pulls from their servers. They aren't the locally stored images. Thanks for sharing with us..

Ads are funny, but that's about it. Have fun kiddos and lower class

Just an FYI on preorders. I spoke with a Verizon Rep today and was told the preorders for the X wont start until the 13th and only available over the internet. May be common knowledge but it was the first I heard of it.

i have moto droid and i can not be on the phone and surf the web or send pic messages at the same time ..it bugs for some reason.. does any one know if the droid x will allow u to do these things simutaneously …..thank u

This is good website. I appreciate the comments made. I dont have to wade through swearing and immature behavior. 🙂 thanks
Now my question does anybody know when you can pre-order the X from verizon?

    Jamie

  • Bcbbanga4l

Is this the same as the Droid Incredible?

  • “And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”

I love it, Steve Jobs should just shut his mouth.

  • Excelent, I love competition

  • otter34

Any word on whether battery life will be better or worse than droid's battery life? I don't think I've seen it mentioned anywhere

    • Komodos

on phonescoop.com, the Eric Zeman stated this.
“I don't have quite enough data to share at this point. What I can say is that I received the phone with an 80% charge at 2PM. After heavy use, the Droid X still had 50% at 11PM. That's not bad at all, though I hadn't synced email. Today, I left the house at 5AM with a full charge. After 9 hours of email, Twitter, etc., it still has 70% charge.”
I think that is preeettttyyy good 🙂

  • This X just gets more and more enticing doesn't it? WTH will I do with my Incredible…. Oh well. I guess the worst thing I'll have to deal with is not having pre-ordered the phone and trying to make it in somewhere to pick one up cash (doing a pseudo-buddy upgrade).

The Droid hunt is also dropping some major hints and I'm headed out to try and find the one in California tomorrow… What are the actual odds that I might be lucky enough to find it? A billion to one?? Probably. Guess I'll make a day of it…

  • SourPuss

Apple is too hung up on the appstore, to realize that first and foremost, it's a telephone, and it needs to be able to make PHONE calls, regardless of how you hold it. The screen shouldn't have yellow spots on it, the volume buttons should be in the right place, and the proximity sensor should work. But above everything else, it should make PHONE calls no matter how you hold it. Between Apple's less than ideal design, and AT&T's service, you have to be a real sheep to go along with this. But they'll defend it until their dying day, too proud to admit they're just sheep.

  • Derongarrett

i was thinking about upgrading from my droid to this but in a month or 2 there will be a better phone… so i am hopeing the rumor is true about the iphone coming to verizon in January if so i am getting it.

  • Pnuker

What?? Pre-order?? How did I miss that?? Why do they limit the amount of pre-orders?? Why not just make a shitload of them to start with??

  • Ewhitak

    http://www.break.com/index/iphone-4-vs-htc-evo….

idk if this is allowed or not but this is a funny video…. iphone 4 vs. htc evo
if its not aloud i can remove.

    • That was funny! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • Marshcasey

for this phone do you have to buy the mobile hotspot plan?

  • RW-1

We use diverse antennas on the X…

  • Oh snap! Moto got you on blast, Apple!

Okay, I'll stop now. Seriously though, that bit about the antenna is awesome.

  • itskapil

Wow! Verizon knows how to tackle the phone which they are rumored to be with in January against the one they are with on July 15th.

Hey Droid X, knock that i*hone down on July 15 onwards… I would love to make a comic on this.

  • EC8CH

    “And most importantly”… priceless!

  • This phone is looking better and better. Seriously, “First!” comments are so lame.

  • I finally decided to write a comment on your blog. I just wanted to say good job. I really enjoy reading your posts.

  • djhotpocket

Ha ha ha thats so great! Because remember kids, these are phones above all other features. If the iPhail cant make calls its just a prettier iPod touch….

  • What’s up with the comments section? Is Disqus tanking?

  • alex

    First!!!

  • Verizon Marketing WIN!

  • i like the the little twitter comment during call would be neat for facebook updates!!

  • Chris Nimon

awesome. I hope this is verizons way of saying they're ARE and WILL BE all about android. They obviously want the iphone users on their network for their money but hopefully their allegiance is to the systems that made them so huge.

  • The people at the Verizon marketing team are my heroes

  • HansGrueber

Apple claim antenna problems are a fact of life. Yeah. Sure.
I find it hilarious that the ability to hold a phone and make a call can be a valid selling feature. Utterly hilarious.

  • banditball

Haha…..I love it! Settle yet effective

  • StephanC

Thanks! Not only is the ad taking shots, so is @MotoMobile on Twitter! Here's what was tweeted:

“Droid X does more. Like make calls no matter which way you hold it. Available July 15th: http://bit.ly/cMmOcE

    Ha!

  • Dennis

To be fair, I think they were talking about having the double antenna so you can hold it anyway you like BEFORE the i*hone issue was widespread and well known. I might be wrong though.

    • StephanC

No, they mean it, look at @MotoMobile's Twitter page. They definitely are taking some great shots at apple.

  • Michael_NM

Okay, I'm being admittedly picky, but I guess I need to rant about something…

What's with “PRE-installed micro SD card and “SWYPE PRE-loaded?” Why not just say with 16 GB SD card and SWYPE. Pre-installed suggests that it's not installed yet. You don't see PRE-installed 1-GHz processor. It's like PRE-ordering, you're either ordering or you're not. In memory of our tragic loss (Laptop Bracket Poll) to the Palm Pre, I implore VZ to quit using PRE anything.

Okay, rant off… thanks for listening.

    • CompCrash

Thats because you cn change out the MicroSD card and replace it. Same with SWYPE, you can remove it. Pre-install means that they put it in for you but it isn't something that has to be there, they just wnat to be kind.

      • Michael_NM

Well, I should have been a bit more clear about my rant. My point was about the semantics of the prefix “pre” which means “before.” The overuse of the prefix is a pet peeve of mine. What pre-installed (note the hyphen is actually improper as well) actually means is “before installed.” If they actually “put it in” it's installed. I understand what they “mean,” but it would be easier (a more correct) to say what they mean. For example: Removable 16 GB mirco SD installed. The Palm Pre reference was a feabile attempt at humor.

        • CompCrash

I can understand annoying pet peeves. So lets deal with mine. Just because it is written preinstalled doesn't mean you directly translate to “before installed”. In most cases in English prefixes aren't written out before the word, so it can be “installed before'. But I'll shut up because I can rant on a rant easily. But yes, preinstalled is a funny word, or the prefix “pre”, tends to be used improperly.

          • Michael_NM

            Cheers CC! 🙂

    • StephanC

Yeah, after that sad WebOS fail I would definitely avoid the word “Pre”

  • I LOVE IT!!! Maybe the rumors aren't true because I understand VZ backing Android, but why take big shots like that towards someone you are going to work with in January???

    • StephanC

Hey who knows, one insult to Apple will probably start turmoil between VZW and Apple and that's, well that's just great!

  • twist the knife!

  • Sdk_1052

Ha! Take it up the @## iPhone or should I say iCrap! no pun intended!

  • droiddev

I know this is very minor and hopefully it's not just glossy, airbrushed pictures for the ad, but it will be nice if the “caller id” photo is really that big/clear/crisp. Definitely is an upgrade over the tiny distorted picture on the current call screen. And is that a twitter status below the picture too? Have those features/tweaks been discussed in any of the reviews yet?

    • I like the layout of the call screen there and would like to have that now, but so far none of the Froyo ROM's have anything like that? Are those apps from the Marketplace that is making the call in progress screen look like that?

      • I hate when I forget to switch my damn twitter account…

    • Drew

I would imagine both are custom for the X. The screen is much larger and can therefore handle more stuff on the screen.

      • Dana

I would imagine the picture is NOT going to look like that. The caller ID photos are the ones Google pulls from their servers. They aren't the locally stored images. They are sent to google, compressed and then pulled for the phone contact on call. It's a google issue, and this is HUGE news if they added this to 2.2.

  • Mike Kelley(MAK)

Hey and the chick in the pic spells her name properly

  • khunter86

What's with the twitter status in calls? Is it just me, or is that something new? Too bad it could never get updated while in a call. Damn Verizon.

  • Jeffjano

    Classic..Love it

  • EggoEspada

    LOL.. Awesome.

  • BT

The ad was also in the WSJ.

  • RealGame22

I wonder what Steve Jobs is thanking?……”Am I holding the phone rite myself”

  • So this will work in both my left AND right hands?

  • YES!

  • Keith

Definitely a burn on apple on that one, it's not overly direct about it though.

Anyone know if the Swype keyboard for the X has been ported yet? I want swype with the voice key!

    • garbagedick

      I also want this!

      • Drew

Yes. Please! I hate having to switch to stock keyboard to use the microphone…

    • Me Three!!!

  • too good

  • PyroHoltz

    wow, first
