Earlier this month, we learned that a dedicated hardware button on the upcoming G7 ThinQ from LG would provide quick access to some type of AI, similar to what Samsung does for Bixby on the Galaxy S9. However, we weren’t entirely sure what digital assistant LG would use, whether it’s a new AI of their own making or something else.

Thanks to a new report from CNET, we’re learning that it may just be a dedicated Google Assistant button, which is a huge relief.

If this dedicated button is indeed a Google Assistant button, we believe this is the first of its kind. While the Pixel phones have a squeeze-to-access feature for Assistant, no 3rd-party phone comes to mind that has a dedicated button specifically for Google’s digital assistant. In doing this, buyers should have quick access to all of Assistant’s features, like toggling system settings, setting reminders, plus a whole lot more.

We’re expecting to see the LG G7 ThinQ unveiled on May 2 in NYC.
