Tip: Developer Options Hidden in Android 4.2 – This is How to Access Them

There are probably a handful of legitimate reasons why, but we thought we should point out that Google decided it would hide the Developer options menu through Settings in Android 4.2. You could argue that the average consumer has no business being in this section or that it doesn’t even need to be present unless the owner of the device is looking to tinker. No matter what, it’s hidden and we want to make sure you know how to get it back. Check the video below.

  • Larizard

i dunno about yall but i lol’ed hard on that pic “You are now a developer!” LOL

  • onDroid

Pretty sure Kellen just wanted to show off his nexus family. That’s the only reason I can see that this post needed video.

  • solange82200

God, a full minute and a half just to tell me that. Could have just said it from the get go without going into a whole dissertation on it.

  • arthur

Does anybody getting camera force close on nexus 7 after 4.2 update?

  • Daniel Maginnis

I’m sure you may just want the YouTube views but sometimes its really not convenient to watch a video. I prefer if there would be one sentence at the bottom of the post that like “tap build number in about tablet/phone a bunch of times”

  • jarch3r

    wallpaper on phone?

  • johnc7995

That’s so stupid, why did they need to make it so cryptic?

  • SeanBello

my guess is once it becomes an option in the menu, the toggle to turn it off is still there and it disappears again if you turn it off

  • Tyler

Does tapping on the build number after enabling developer options remove it?

    • JoshGroff

No. I tried that just for giggles.

  • Now i wonder, can you hide the developer options again after activating usb debugging? and if you can, will it keep usb debugging intact?

    • JoshGroff

      That would be legit.

  • ryan

A write up would have worked just as well as a video.

  • kixofmyg0t

I know I’m gonna get down voted and all…..but holy bezel batman! The N10 is downright ugly IMO.

Really liking how the N4 looks though.

    • Clint O

      I up voted lol

    • briggy

Yeah, all tablets are pretty ugly.

      • kixofmyg0t

Actually I don’t agree. I still love my Xoom, and I dig the N7 as well as ASUS tablets in general…..but this blob of a tablet just isn’t appealing IMO.

        • briggy

Oh I know, it’s cool. Imo I have found all tablets ugly. Doesn’t stop me from using them, they are just all ugly to me.

        • Colin Huber

All tablets are ugly. It’s the guts that count. Drop the Xoom, get a 10. You bet.

          • kixofmyg0t

Not gonna happen. The N10 is the kind of ugly that a case can’t even fix. Plus I’m truly surprised its just a dual core.

            I’d rather have a TF700 than a N10.

          • TheDrunkenClam

            Okay, we get it Ron.
You don’t like the Nexus 10.

        • TheDrunkenClam

Nobody’s going to make you buy one.
          Problem solved.

    • Why would people down vote you for putting your opinion on here? There are a lot of idiots on here.

      • kixofmyg0t

Because I’m very pro Motorola and I said something negative about a Samsung.

Hey some are gonna like it, some aren’t. I just really don’t like the way it looks.

    • It’s a feature. Try holding something that large by a smaller bezel. You can’t hold it by the screen itself or else you’re touching everything onscreen. Google and Apple aren’t stupid.

      • kixofmyg0t

I can hold my Xoom just fine. I like the small bezel on that, I see no problem with it….even holding all 30lbs of it one handed lol.

I’m not saying they’re stupid or anything….it’s just hideous in my opinion.

      • Colin Huber

Ken, I’m with you man. I think it’s perfect, just for that. It’s uncomfortable to try and hold a tablet by the very edges.

      • lala

i feel d design looks nice.a distinct feature among the sea of ‘rectangular rounded edges’ products out there!

  • How do you undo becoming a developer?

    • Justin W

My guess is an FDR is the only way.

      • JoshGroff

        Franklin Delano Roosevelt?

        • Justin W

Factory data reset lol. I knew when I posted that someone would be a smart ass.

          • JoshGroff

Of course, this is the internet. 😉

  • why isnt this the verge

just do a text step by step. no one wants to watch movies

    • Yeah, seriously. If I want quick information, I want text. If I wanted entertainment, I’d watch a video.

    • JoshGroff

      Spam click build number. 😉

    • moew

click build number a bunch of times <– there's your text.

    • mec

you mean watch five minutes of weird hand gestures that nobody makes when using their phone.

    • Anom

I’m glad he made a video, I looked this up 4 times to find how to access the settings menu. Its not like its intuitive to swipe down on the time, instead of what your used to just swiping down a single middle drawer.

  • SeanBello

that’s what you get for not checking for the “Easter Egg” during the unboxing video lol. could’ve been the 1st ppl to find it!

  • gbenj

Not that I’d want to but how do you Disable that?

  • drewbie_al

    Nice Wi-Fi name. Smoochie? Really?

    • jab416171

      And smoochiefast

    • kane

      Death to Smoochie!

  • AROD

    What a beautiful Nexus family!
