HTC Sense 3.5 Gets a Full 5-Minute Video Preview

A first look of HTC’s new Sense 3.5 that is expected to come loaded on both the Vigor and Bliss, made the rounds last week thanks to XDA.cn.  Today, we have a full 5-minute video walk-through of it thanks to that same brave Bliss tester.

So what’s new in version 3.5?  A lot.  We have a ton of fancy new animations, lock screen tweaks and enhancements, a new dock bar that includes shortcuts to just apps and phone, ability to add and remove home screens, more interactive widgets, and a sweet way to adjust the volume.

While Sense is clearly one of, if not the most polished skins of all, it can be a little overwhelming.  It really transforms Android for the most part, but after looking at HTC’s record profits each year, you can tell that people are interested in something like that.

The buttons for apps and phone are a skin. It still has the normal look of HTC Sense with the curved rosie bar. One of our devs got his hands on the official 3.5. No worries on the look it can be changed.

  • All those animations and the lock screen are already in Sense 3, the weather also looks identical. The only difference is the bottom bar, which can already change with a skin, which is probably all this is.

  • Is it me, or has sense become a bit cartoonish?
    No likey

  • I intended to write you a little remark to help thank you so much as before on the splendid basics you’ve provided on this website. It was so shockingly generous with you in giving openly all a few people could have advertised for an electronic book to earn some cash for their own end, especially now that you could possibly have tried it in case you desired. The tactics likewise worked to be the great way to be certain that other people online have similar eagerness similar to my very own to figure out good deal more with regards to this issue. I am sure there are millions of more pleasant sessions ahead for those who discover your blog.

  • I want to convey my respect for your generosity giving support to people who really need help on this particular concept. Your real dedication to getting the solution all-around came to be astonishingly productive and have constantly empowered workers much like me to get to their targets. Your personal warm and helpful guidelines signifies this much a person like me and substantially more to my office colleagues. Thanks a ton; from all of us.

  • Thanks for all of the effort on this site. My niece delights in going through investigation and it’s obvious why. i guess this is ok

is it just me, or do you feel like it is refreshing to see long, well maintained and beautiful nails on a walk-through video 🙂 LOL.

I liked Sense 3.0 hoping it would come on the Vigor but noooo you have to ruin future HTC phones by putting this weird version of sense and then add bloatware on top of that. BARF.

  • Anonymous

HTC sells so well because of the hype it gets, much like a certain iBrand.  After that first rumor about the Vigor popped up with little to no information everyone was already jumping all over it and calling the Bionic outdated trash.

    • Anonymous

What makes it really ironic is the fact that the Bionic will be more powerful than the Vigor because HTC decided to actually use last-year’s tech as opposed to moving to an A9-based processor.

      • Anonymous

I just laugh.  People are so….ridiculous.  Marketing and hype works, apparently no one cares about facts anymore.

  • Phone hung up at 2:45 and HTC does seem to have the weather animations perfect, but otherwise, its a lot of eye candy and not much functionality, leave that for WP7

droid life.. whats up with the over doing of TMobile ads?

  • Anonymous

anything is better than stock! Sense is the best overlay on stock.. period!!
The over-hyped CM and it’s fans can stay out of this.

  • I have to point out my love for your generosity giving support to individuals that require assistance with this one concept. Your special dedication to getting the message all around had been remarkably functional and have truly encouraged others just like me to arrive at their ambitions. Your entire helpful useful information implies a lot a person like me and even more to my fellow workers. Thanks a ton; from each one of us.

  • Dash Speeds

And this exemplifies why I hate sense. Unlike the crap HTC pumps out, other skins (MotoBlur and Touchwiz) have been getting better and better with each version.

    • Giants9833

Well the certainly couldn’t have gotten any worse! They were so far behind to start.

  • Jay

long fingernails for handset walkthroughs are not helpful

  • Anonymous

htc sense is really going downhill. they just keep bloating it with more and more unnecessary features and animations. its no wonder they can’t get a phone with decent battery life.

  • J2000pro

All that new razmataz and you can’t even customize dock icons/shortcuts. Looks like 3rd launchers still have a bright future.

  • tanknspank

I for one want to get my hands on sense 3.5 for my bolt.. Doesn’t look bad at all.

  • Why is it that every damn HTC phone all they feature is animations or scrolling through the damn desktop pages?

How about you guys show phone features. Android is just like ubuntu. All that is ever shown is animations. A bunch of geeks showing how cool compiz whatever it is.

If history repeats itself. Android will be linux market share in a few years.

    • Except Linux never reached the market share android has

  • Larry Mao

Sense get uglier and uglier, and far more laggy and bloated with every iteration. It’s almost as if HTC is trying to become the next Motorola!

    • Peter Henkel

And stock Android looks equally fugly during all this years.

  • Anonymous

  • Prickee

IMHO I like Sense.  Now this Sense has more animations whoo hoo.  Now for those who don’t like all the extra animations you know you can turn them off duh.  Sense blows MotoBlur out of the water!

  • Anonymous

Looks ok, only thing i want to know is how do all the animations effect battery life?

  • Umm….when did T-mobile take over Droid-Life?

  • Anonymous

watching this only confirms my love for vanilla android

  • Anonymous

This could be the most annoying demo video I have ever seen with Ms. Long and Slow fingers showing the goods. Also, I think this new Sense could be(I hope) just for the Bliss.

    • LionStone

I could not finish watching it, especially since she blew the spinning around the screens demo…if ya give it a hard flick left or right, the screens all spin around like a ‘carousel’…looks cool on the Flyer. I kept waiting for her to do it, but she couldn’t keep her hands off the thing.

  • so… drag queens use HTC phones? got it.

  • Anonymous

I pretty much have no idea what the woman was trying to show while she struggled to use the touch screen with those nails but as a HTC owner I would say Sense is starting to get a bit on the bloated side now for definite.

  • Bombayslim

WTF do people hate on motoblur so much when this is 10x more ugly and superfluous…just my humble opinion..

  • Nice nails.  Sense though is getting too busy.

  • Stelv81

I like Sense. But I hate animations. Stop adding them into overlays!!! I like pure vanilla Android more and more everyday. Sense is still the best overlay though. Even though it has a lot of useless junk it is still speed optimized.

Praying to the Google Gods “Please let the Nexus Prime come to Verizon” We can not stand what they’ve done to Android !!!!!

    • Peter Henkel

I can’t stand look of stock Android, which has stuck in Windows 95 era.

      • Why post here what did you accomplish

        • Peter Henkel

I’ve accomplished pretty much the same (read nothing) as dude above me.)

  • Dkon88

    Has Tmobile taken droidlife over?

    • Kierra

Apparently, I know bills gotta be paid, but COTDAMN

    • Anonymous

I know Huh lol, but I wish their spokeswoman did, man she is hot!!!!!

  • RedOne

I don’t know about you guys but I like this new Sense especially the lock screen and i hope I can get this for my Droid Incredible2.

  • For a 800mz processor that phone is snappy

  • her hands are more appealing than the UI =)

  • Zebra

It must be annoying trying to use a touch screen with finger nails like that

  • Anonymous

I don’t know why people are complaining so much.. I love the animations as long as they don’t add time to basic functions.. if there is an animation that runs during the split second it takes to load info I’ll take the animation over sitting there with a endless circle saying ‘loading’ and if battery life doesn’t decrease.. I think it looks great

  • what is the phone in the video- is that the vigor? hardware looks really nice software looks like shit… but it is ok because the have an unlocked boot loader.

    • Anonymous

  • can I not have that new dock bar? first thing to do after root

  • pollita-droid

I’m so over sense and how fast it drains my battery.

  • Binglut9

Just what we need a more bloated sense….doh

  • Alan Paone

Take this video as confirmation that this phone is dual-core. It didn’t catch on fire trying to run all those animations, and it was pretty smooth.

  • Anonymous

I know ad revenue is a big, but these t-mobile ads are really in your face. It’s a big turnoff, in my opinion. Is there a better way to put ads in there? Also, it is really hi-jacking your droid-life banner at the top.

    • Blood

      Use Adblock.

  • Kierra

Dont see the hullabaloo about Sense…really.

  • Anonymous

This is going to sound a bit nuts… I rooted my Thunderbolt to get Sense off of it and speed it up. Loaded CM7, then found I wanted more functionality from my app drawer and installed ADWEX, then ultimately Go Contacts, Beautiful widgets, Flip4silence, Tasker, and a boatload of other pay-for apps.

Yesterday I loaded Gingeritis3D on a whim and you know what? I just came full circle and now I’m running stock Sense because the speed of Gingeritis and the sense of Sense, plus its widgets beats the pants off of all the effort I’ve put into this damn phone myself to make a FrankenROM’d Sense type device.

Crazy, but it works for me.

    • Alan Paone

There’s not a lot of scrolling widgets out there is there? I tried to divorce myself from launcherPro Plus, and it was damn near impossible. I hope ICS ushers in a new era of dense information on homescreens.

      • Philmwarren

Look up colorize widget in the market. You will thank me

        • Lakerzz

Just not as smooth as Lp widgets. On my DX at least.

    • T0ked

I agree. I was about to post something similar. My friend rooted his Samsung Captivate. He put on stock Android then started customizing it. He liked the Sense weather stuff on my Tbolt so he downloaded an app that looked like it. Then there were a couple other things he liked about my HTC phone and customized his to look and function a bit more like mine. He actually installed a Sense mod afterwards. I feel Sense does what I need it to do and does it well on my phone. And who doesn’t want to show off with some cool animations? LOL. I paid (and continue to pay monthly) good money to have such a powerful phone. Who doesn’t want to be dazzled with some eye candy? As long as it doesn’t interfere with the functionality. To each there own though. I personally think Sense is way better than Moto or Sammy versions of an interface. Sony makes a nice one but so rare…

  • Alan Paone

I really liked the old dockbar, this whole skin looks really..well, chinese. Why are all the manufacturers kanging miui/iphone and not CM?

  • Anonymous

Notification drop down with tabs, is pretty sweet. How come I didn’t think of that

    • Alan Paone

Thats been around forever, and its a lot clunkier than the scrolling drop down in CM7

  • Anonymous

HTC done messed Sense up. Im rocking sense on an old Eris (traded my Fascinate with my mom for her upgrade) and its actually quite
simple and nice. Sure the phone is slOw as fudge but imagine if they wouldve
just concentrated on performance and enhanced only some things? It’d be flying
all over the place. This is just too much. Doesn’t even look like Android. Les is more, HTC.

  • They sure know how to mess up a good thing…

  • They sure know how to mess up a good thing……

  • Mule0331

Wow, they got through a full 5 minute vid without needing to recharge it. Amazing!

    • Adam Elghor

lol its running an 800mhz so i think battery wont b the biggest problem

  • Anonymous

Did Dr. Droid just suggest that people buy phones because of their skins? Nonsense. 😛

    • EC8CH

Why the Hell would you buy anything else other than the Prime than??? 😛

      • Anonymous

Sounds like these OEM’s are trying to copy functionality of custom ROMs, but going a bit to far or overboard.  Throwing in all of this extra crap and really making these skins memory hogs.

  • Anonymous

    So…how bout that Prime?

  • Ssplawson

    First ?

  • Bewara2009

The new sense is F Ugly….

    • Blood

HTC: Let’s throw in more useless animations.

How many more animations does sense need?

      • DanSke

Too many it seems. I could see those animations getting really old, really fast.

      • palomosan

Now it’s becoming overwhelming, too much stuff, I like sense but now it’s getting out of hand.

        • I never did like Sense, now I just plain hate it.

    • OG Droid

God this crap makes the new blur look awesome. Thanks Droid Life I now know I will not be getting the Vigor.

      • Anonymous

i cant believe this!! me and my sister just got two i-pads for $42.77 each and a $50 amazon card for $9. the stores want to keep this a secret and they dont tell you. go here, EgoWìn.com

        • Adam Elghor

suck my dick and ill give you an i*ad for free

          • Sruel3216

  • Vigor (Inc HD) may have just dropped out of my possible devices.

    • Alan Paone

At least it’ll have an unlocked bootloader

  • Anonymous

Hmm… I’m going to miss the old bottom bar a little 🙁

    • Cwzrd23

Sense is highly customizable im sure there is a option to change it back to the old theme
