Asus Transformer Receiving Android 3.2 Update Tomorrow, July 28

Asus Transformer owners,  Android 3.2 is upon us!  Well, tomorrow it is.

The update (according to Asus Twitter), will be available tomorrow, bringing the hottest Android tablet on the planet up to the most current version that includes a new zooming feature for apps that haven’t been built for tablets and SD card support.  Nothing huge, but definitely needed.

The full list of 3.2 highlights is as follows:

  • Optimizations for a wider range of tabletsAndroid 3.2 includes a variety of optimizations across the system to ensure a great user experience on a wider range of tablet devices.
  • Compatibility zoom for fixed-sized appsAndroid 3.2 introduces a new compatibility zoom mode that gives users a new way to view fixed-sized apps on larger devices. The new mode provides a pixel-scaled alternative to the standard UI stretching for apps that are not designed to run on larger screen sizes, such as on tablets. The new mode is accessible to users from a menu icon in the system bar, for apps that need compatibility support.
  • Media sync from SD cardOn devices that support an SD card, users can now load media files directly from the SD card to apps that use them. A system facility makes the files accessible to apps from the system media store.

Transformer owners, be sure to let us know when you receive it.

Cheers @chrisarm24!

Seriously… I know all of you who bought non-Xoom high end tablets are deep down inside jealous that you didn’t get the best tablet out there… but don’t delude yourself by making up imaginary advantages, like thinking you got the 3.2 upgrade faster when in fact you got it weeks later than us…

  • Xoomaniac

Um… people… I own a Xoom, and we’ve been running Android 3.2 for some time now.  I think the UK 3G Xoom might not be, because it isn’t Google Experience… but the American versions, 3G and Wifi, have had Android 3.2 for weeks now, so what are you talking about when you claim that non-Google Experience tablets are getting upgraded faster?  Because I can assure you they are not.

  • Kcurran720

do these updates just happen automatically, or do we need to do something to make them happen?  Sorry, I’m not that techy.

  • cgi wizard

I haven’t received any update nor have I received any notification.

  • Djbork

Received mine today. Not too many noticeable difdferences except for the zoom feature which is nice.

This android 3.2 update is a total disappointment.. Even worse than Android 3.1 update…

  • Bastien

Still no update. On the East coast and have been trying all day since about 6:00am.

(Unrelated) Waiting for the update for my Droid X2 also released today. (July 28th)

  • Haven’t received it yet =(
    Still on 3.1

  • Pghawke

I talked someone out of buying an IPAD2 today. The Transformer is the best tablet in the market in my opinion.

  • Scott Willenborg

It is fixed… turn on your Transformer, go to the Market App and search Thumb Keyboard.  Hit Buy Now, install and it’s fixed.  Simple.

  • I wanted to send you this tiny note in order to say thanks the moment again on your nice tricks you’ve discussed here. This is simply seriously generous with you to provide extensively all that most people might have advertised as an ebook to help make some profit on their own, particularly considering that you might have done it if you ever wanted. The ideas in addition worked to be the easy way to fully grasp someone else have similar passion just as my personal own to find out somewhat more with respect to this problem. I believe there are some more pleasant sessions in the future for people who read carefully your site.

This makes me even more POed at my local Staples and Office Depot.  I tried to use the now infamous $100 off Any Tablet coupon at Office Depot first because they actually had Transformers in stock and they said that although they typically honor Staples coupons they were specifically told not to honor this one.  So, then I went to Staples and they said that they would only honor that coupon for tablets that they carried in the store and not only available from Staples on-line.  But this is also BS because a friend of mine just bought a Toshiba Thrive there with the $100 off and they do not carry them in their store either.  I guess it just depends on who you get at the time or they have changed their policy (probably due to this coupon) since he bought it.

    • I bought the Iconia with that coupon, and I know its reviews aren’t as good as the Transformer, but I have to say, my wife has the Transformer, and besides the fact that yes the Iconia is thicker, there just isn’t that much difference in daily use – and for me the full size USB port is really useful, as my boss has a habit of putting things on USB keys for me.

      • The speakers on the Iconia are WAY better than on my Transformer (though I do love my Transformer).

  • jbonics

just got the transformer yesterday and besides it needs a slight overclock its doing good. my android hateing girlfriend is running around saying i love my new tablet.

  • I happen to be commenting to make you know of the really good experience my wife’s princess obtained viewing your web page. She learned lots of things, which include what it’s like to possess an amazing coaching mood to get many others smoothly have an understanding of specified extremely tough topics. You actually did more than people’s expected results. I appreciate you for presenting the powerful, trusted, informative and in addition cool guidance on this topic to Gloria.

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panas0nic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://to.ly/aQrp

  • Jonathan Carnesciali

Asus has done an amazing job for updates for this tablet

  • Best news ever heard!!1

Transformer owners to XOOM 3G owners like me: You’re not as cool AS US. 🙂

        your mom doesn’t love you

      • Scott Willenborg

I just paid $7.33 to your mom to wash my Jeep.  I could not afford the extra $2.67 that would have made her do it clothed.  Your mom and you have just made a powerful enemy sir.

        • Adam Elghor

          my comment was better

          • Scott Willenborg

Mine was first.  Yours lacked style and charisma as well.

The next move is your Mr. Poopypants.

    • palomosan

I can hear the music coming from my Transformer…love ASUS, they’re not just bluffing like some other manufacturers.

  • Anonymous

Hey Kellex, so much for the XOOM being first to get updates. Oh you must have been talking about the WiFi version…

  • I call Bullsh*t on my XOOM 3G being a Google Experience Device! The ASUS Transformer will get 3.2 before any 3G XOOMs.
Well I guess I should just be happy that I got an email to tell me to wait until the end of summer for another email with specifics on how to go about getting something I was supposed to get in May.
    A big F U to Verizon Wireless.
    And a bigger F U to Motorola.

    • Anonymous

motorola is the worst company for devices updates….fo’ real!

      • Anonymous

nope… you are wrong… Samsung is the worst!!!  Motorola is okay comparing to Samsung.

    • Xoomaniac

First Thing: I got Android 3.2 on my Xoom WEEKS AGO, so what the heck are you talking about?  Secondly.. Motorola does NOT update the OS on the Xoom… the point of a Google Experience device is that ONLY Google updates the OS… so you can’t blame Motorola for jack.

    • Xoomaniac

First of all, I have a Wifi Xoom and I got the Android 3.2 upgrade WEEKS ago, so don’t delude yourselves into thinking the Transformer got it faster… you’re weeks behind us Xoom owners.  Secondly, Motorola DOES NOT do the software upgrades on the Xoom, Google does, that is the point of a Google Experience device, that Google is SOLELY responsible for the software, Motorola only for the hardware, so you can’t blame Motorola for jack regarding the software on the Xoom.

  • Burl

How about fixing the garbage keyboard

    • The keyboard isn’t garbage.. the issue is the browser lag.  I found the keyboard attachment to be stellar in general.

  • Touche

I cant wait for the MOTO bitch fest to end. Every article same complaints.Just let go already.

    • Do you happen to own a XOOM 3G?

    • Do you happen to own a XOOM 3G?

    • I think its the other way around everyone hates on moto and proabably half dont own a moto phone…Its people that think these companies are their friends and they have to defend them to the death its really sad to see it..I would think everyone would be on the same team I guess not they always have to put everyone elses product down in order to make them feel better.. Why? you ask. I have no idea must be compensating for something else oOoO

      • I own a OG Droid, a Droid X, and a 3G XOOM and I hate on Motorola, believe me they have earned it.

        • I have all the same devices you have and they have been good to me I get updates ex gingerbread ….build quality is great too.. I just dont understand why you would buy something moto if you never liked them?? It makes no sense it wasnt just one day where you woke up and said hey I hate moto this has to be an ongoing issue so why keep buying their devices if they are so bad to you?? Perfect example why customers are stupid thanks for proving it

          • Hey buddy,
I didn’t always dislike Motorola, I loved my OG Droid, I liked my DX until Gingerbread, I bought my 3G XOOM before I starting having a problem with the company.
The 3G XOOM experience has me angry at Motorola.
So you didn’t prove anything, dummy.

          • Xoomaniac

Who are you calling a dummy?  You’re the one who seems to think the Transformer got Android 3.2 before Xoom when in fact it got it WEEKS later… so I think everyone should disregard your views on the Xoom, since they are clearly ill informed.

  • Ok, seriously, this is how updates are done. 3.1 is announced and tablets start getting it within weeks. Then 3.2 comes out and again this happens.

Can we please, PLEASE, get our phones to update this way?

On a side note: Google, please make the UI in ICS so good that no one will want these custom skins (yes people like me actually want them, they add a lot of functionality). The new market was a really good start.

    • The difference is clear – on wifi only tablets, there are no carriers involved to screw things up. The manufacturers get the updates, and just push them out, no drama. This tells me that a lot of anger directed at Moto should be aimed at VZW instead.

      • Xoomaniac

Neither Motorola nor VZW are responsible for Xoom updates… Google is solely responsible for that.   Hence why the Xoom is a Google Experience device… Google controls the software entirely.  I think the European 3G Xoom is not Google Experience… so those are probably the ones that haven’t been upgraded yet.

  • Ive never received 3.1……..

    • You can go into the settings and ask the tablet to check for updates. Otherwise it only checks occasionally.

  • Brion1

I just rooted mine last night! Should I go back to stock and then re-root after update? Will the nvflash root method change?

    • I’m wondering the same thing.  Do I need to unroot to get the update?

  • Lmrojas

On a different note, will I be weird if I get a pink tattoo that says droid-life?

  • So, the XOOM is the true Google Honeycomb device, but other manufacturers are getting updates faster? Thats like the Bionic getting 2.3.5 while the Nexus is on 2.3.2. Great going Motorola!

    • WiFi only Xoom has had it for weeks now, that means it is a Verizon or 3G issue.

  • anthony

    and hopefully working netflix

    • I have working Netflix. 😉

      • anthony

        without rooting 😛

  • Before the 3G Xoom? Wow Moto just wow…

    • Anonymous

Motorola is the best manufacturer. It’s Verizon’s fault that they always delay updates for Motorola devices.

      • Motorola is far from best right now. Hardware wise, yes, I love Moto but their customer service is horrible, and I feel Motorola owes apologies to every Xoom 3G owner. Not to mention they have had 8 months to get the Bionic figured out and we’re still waiting.

        • Right on brother!!!!

        • agree but I dont think their customer service is bad I think its more management that is bad because I had to send my xoom in for a repair (stupid dogs) and it took literally 4 days to get it back to me…That is good service to me

      • Dipesh

what makes you say that? hardware wise, they might be better, but they are barely hanging on to that. they can barely figure out lte. htc makes better phones in my opinion. and moto just sucks in the tablet area. overly expensive tablet that is slow to updat and doesnt live up to what was promised.

        • Dont own one do you>??

      • Best HAHA, and i notice you have a nice HTC phone avatar haha

        • Anonymous

I was being facetious. People were trying to argue for Moto on the other post, but it looks like people just like to argue.

Moto sucks. Anyone want to buy the first* 4G tablet? I’ve got one for sale.

          • You like to argue. You think HTC is be all end all for phones and your a sad little man

      • Burl

Motorola makes crap. 3 revisions to the droid and they still can’t get a camera right.

  • You really need a tablet section.

    • That is a good idea

  • Anonymous

It had better make that cool transforming noise when it updates.

  • The ASUS Transformer already had SD Card support out of the box (even on 3.0!)

    • What a concept. Have a feature work when you buy it.

    • Jacob

eh. there was SD Card support already, but I don’t know about the Media sync from sd..

      • Anonymous

It worked.. you just had to go into mynet (Asus app) under music or look in the removable card folder. The internal memory was labeled SD card if you used the file manger application to see inside.. If you backed out of File Manger and option appears labeled: “removal” which is your external memory card. There you can view, play and edit files

        • Jacob

Well,I use MyLibrary (also asus app) to read epub files. It only looks at the internal memory to load files so when i put books into sdcard, it doesn’t read them. Eh it’s not like a big deal since epub files are pretty small but just thought i’d point that out

          • mine reads .epub files from the sd card…..

          • Jacob

Interesting.. are you using mylibrary app and it loads books from the sdcard automatically? maybe mine’s just a defect then… learning something new everyday

  • MFG

    Nice job, Asus.

Honeycomb devices in general seems to be getting updates on time. Any ideas why? Maybe it’s easier to get them out? Either way, I’m happy to hear this. Looks like the Tab 10.1 will be getting 3.2 next week, as well, with the TouchWiz UX.

    • Anonymous

looks like most honeycomb devices are either stock or 90% stock so far. Am I the first to say WTF about the Transformer getting 3.2 before the first HC tablet, the xoom 3g?

      • You need to take that up with Verizon, my WiFi only Xoom has had it for two weeks.

    • Anonymous

peobably because there is no 3G radio to worry about and there is no carrier interference. There is also the fact that one company produces one tablet.

    • Most are not skinned and if they are its very light so I think that is the reasoning why they are coming out so quick

    • I think it’s because most of them are carrier independent (exception for the Xoom obviously). The manufacturers can push updates without interference. Also agree witht he comment below that they’re all pretty close to stock.

    • Another thing to consider: Asus has very few Android devices to support, so it can focus on this one in particular. Moto has a bunch of current and older phones to support.

  • viewthis66

great! by the way… the Dolphin tablet browser rocks on the T101.

  • Roland Hodge

    sweet got mine last week
