Asus Transformer Update to Android 3.1 Starts Tomorrow

Asus announced this morning that its popular Transformer tablet will receive the update to Android 3.1 starting tomorrow. The update introduces re-sizable widgets, Movies in the Market, some UI tweaks and a overall provides a much more stable experience. You can see our hands-on with the update on a Motorola XOOM here.

If you can’t wait for another day though, there is a leaked build already floating around in a variety of forums.

I have the Transformer and just got the update yesterday [in North Dakota]. I now have 3.1 but the Google movie tab is surprisingly missing from the Android Marketplace. I was not really planning on renting any movies so I am not too bummed about it. I just thought it was weird. Has anyone else seen this, or am I the only one?

I wasn’t able to get the update on Tuesday, 5/31, but when I checked a little after midnight on 6/1, I got it. Haven’t used it much (just got my tablet yesterday), but loving 3.1 so far!

Why would a company make an announcement when they are not ready to deliver ?? Or at least be upfront about the roll out plan. This is an easy way to piss off otherwise happy customers :/

I’ll like to install meego on my asus transformer! the multitasking is not real on honeycomb. Instaed, as soon as blackberry playbook be available en France, I’ll sel my transformer.

Yup, went to XDA forums last night. Search for Heres Honeycomb 3.1

Instructions on page 2, post 3 – file on page 3, post 5 if you are interested in getting a head start – It is freaking fast!

I’d also like to throw some credit at Asus, though with them dealing with firmware updates for motherboards/full-size computers, an update like this is probably not that bad for them.

Good to see some companies have swift update schedules, unlike Motorola who haven’t even got a timeline when us “Non-US” owners will have 3.1.

I wish I’d have waited for the transformer now.

Looks like ASUS has been catching up in Smartphone and tablet sector lately. The Transformer looks really promising and reasonably-priced.
