Motorola XOOM WiFi Owners Will Not Have Movies on Android 3.1, Access Coming in “Near Future”

If you’ve updated your Motorola XOOM WiFi to Android 3.1 already, you probably noticed something major was missing.  The new Movies tab in the Android Market will not appear and according to Motorola, that was by design.  The Verizon XOOM, as I’ve shown in a quick walk-through video definitely has it, but the WiFi model won’t see until some time in the “near future” according to the Moto Support forums manager.

The new Movies tab in the Android Market will not appear on updated Wi-Fi-only Motorola Xooms immediatly after the update.  Google will make that available in the near future.

No reason was given as to why they would withhold this new Market feature, but it’ll likely be here before too long.  The plan has always been to bring this service to all Android devices including phones, so after a couple of weeks of testing on the VZW XOOM, I bet we see it.

Can anyone tell me which tablet is best for someone looking for an inexpensive yet reliable android device (not 3G)?  Possibly one that I can root?  My main wants are a tablet that allows me to watch movies, play android apps, and surf the web.  I love the idea of the XOOM but I want to be sure it is the device for me for that amount of cash.

Ok so in Canada we pay a lot more of Internet services then our friends down south and yet we get the shit end of the stick, somethings has got to give!

  • Raj

I’m too late to realize that Xoom has not lived up its promise of have SD card support. Motorola has been paying the loss by the users going for iPads

  • I precisely desired to thank you very much again. I am not sure the things I would’ve worked on without the entire tips contributed by you directly on my question. This was the challenging crisis for me personally, however , being able to view the expert tactic you dealt with it took me to jump with delight. Now i am happy for the assistance and then have high hopes you find out what a powerful job you are always accomplishing training the others via your web site. This Xoom has been one of the worst product launches I have ever seen. Features that aren’t fully accessible, software that isn’t fully finished, misinformation, too costly, strange restrictions based on model purchased. I don’t get it. I read an article a while ago about how the Droid launch was so successful and smooth that it really put Google on the map for phone OS. The launch of the Xoom has been exactly the opposite. You have to wonder if some if the lag in the Android tablet market is not somewhat related to the poor launch of the flagship device. I really like my Xoom, but I would love it if I could use all of its features.

  • My husband and i got really lucky Ervin managed to finish off his homework from the precious recommendations he grabbed through the web page. It’s not at all simplistic to just be giving freely key points which usually the rest might have been trying to sell. So we consider we now have the blog owner to give thanks to for that. Most of the explanations you’ve made, the easy website navigation, the relationships you will give support to foster – it’s everything wonderful, and it’s aiding our son in addition to us know that this concept is awesome, which is incredibly serious. Thanks for the whole lot!

    This is just
ridiculous.  I originally bought the 3g version and returned it, as I
didn’t see the need for the extra money for something I wouldn’t use very much.
It’s like they are penalizing xoom wi-fi owners

Well if its anything like the wait for the update you should be expecting it sooner rather than later.

  • Dabruise

i think its there but just blocked. Some one posted the video apk on xda and when I tried to load it a message came up telling me I already had it. But still no movie tab

Noticed that this morning when my update came. Missing the movies tab, and the new “Videos” app that is supposed to be pre-installed. Also missing whatever new wallpapers were supposed to be included

    Ahhh, everything works. So sweet.

  • Jaytrain391

After days of waiting and constantly checking my xoom I got the update this morning on my way out to work. I never got a chance to play with it. So now I’m itching to get home and mess around with it.

  •  just got my update on my Xoom 3g excited

  • Wojtek

Fragmentation at the best and one more reason why people buy iPads

    • Get out.

    • Trdracer21

thats true so stupid give everyone update!!!

Apparently root users can’t watch movies from the market. That’s also lame.

    • Whap

Do you have 3g xoom??? Seems to work fine on mine.

  • Jbob

Off topic, but where can I get that wallpaper?

    • Teddman

I would like to know as well

  • George81

I have a 3G Xoom and I don’t have the Movies tab in my Market. Got the update last night. Not sure why I’m not getting it.

    • George81

Nevermind. Cleared data and started it up and it’s there now. Not sure why I didn’t think of that sooner. Haha!

  • Anonymous

I would view this as a public soak test on 3G devices, like Kellex referred to.

  • Hamholla

this is pretty lame. I’m glad it was’t just mine though. I was kinda freaking out

  • Anonymous

That’s just plain odd. You’d think that no one would care on the wi-fi Xoom because it’s not racking up a data charge therefore users would be more likely to use it. It almost seems like the opposite of what one would expect.

      Good thought…..

  • Jl92880

Mine Appears, but I also didn’t do OTA.

  • Pmagent2013

    This is Fu**ed up, Motorola.

    • Fleury

Rooted wifi xoom here. Anyone know if there is a 3.1 update without using the SD card?

      • Whap

There’s instructions on xda, I have a 3g but it looked like you could perform the update without SD support.

        • Fleury

ive looked ovver there. you havea link? appreciate it.
