It has been years since I exited the competitive PC gaming world (Unreal Tournament series, anyone?), but from what I can tell, the industry is as big and as advanced as ever. I still remember the painful and sometimes intimidating steps it took to overclock anything on PC, yet today, companies are releasing Android apps that let you do it on the fly. Take this EVGA Precision X app that connects your phone to your GPU via Bluetooth, giving you a view of its performance and the ability to set fan speed, power limits and frequencies. Yep, I’m impressed.

Cheers Rob!

Used to play Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena….fun times. HEAD shot!
The app seems like a side note. It’s the incorporation of Bluetooth into the graphics card that is notable, right? After that, the app is just veneer.
biostar has something similar with their mobo’s
Don’t forget to update to the latest beta drivers so you can use the ‘frame rate target’ and other features on pre 600 series cards.
Ahh… The UT days. Good times.
MSI has had this for their GeForce cards for a while, I got it over a year ago.
Im going to try this out on my GTX550ti I dont like the percision x software because it is unstable but ill give it at least one shot. Im curious about the bluetooth connection though.
Useless for me. I’ve got a GTX 550 Ti but no bluetooth… not many PCs I’ve used/built lately have had bluetooth.
Bluetooth dongle = about $12
No no no. http://www.ebay.com/itm/320676251478?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Less than $2
Same here. I was looking forward to this app until I installed it and found out it requires bluetooth. I could get a cheap dongle but I think EVGA should have implemented this using Wi-Fi, which everybody has (XBMC remote and many other apps use Wi-Fi to connect to computer programs).
This is really cool. So this means you can tweak settings while playing a game right?
Yes.
I wouldnt recommend adjusting freqs and voltage settings mid-game, but fan settings would be nice.
Why not? Your CPU and GPU already adjust frequencies and voltages based on load. There is no problem with making any of these adjustments in-game as evidenced by the official video for the app.
