• I am in a dilemma. I want to be surprised and blown away on Oct. 11 @ 2:30 PM EST but I also want to get all the latest leaked news.

  In other news, how does this stack up to the D1’s from the factory app list? When the OG launched it was a pretty much stock phone? I can’t remember because I rooted and ROM’d the thing while it was still charging for the first time.

• I have a crazy theory that just kind of struck me today…..

  Maybe VZW ISN’T getting the *phone5 and is instead being offered the *phone4S.

  This would line up with a couple of things:

  1. VZW backing Samsung in the dispute with Apple (as is T-Mobile, who we know isn’t getting the new fruit phone)

  2. VZW allowing another stock android device on their network, free of bloatware and the like. I always assumed the OG Droid would be the first and last stock experience on VZW we would see.

  3. The push to have so many top tier android phones at one time (Bionic, “Vigor”, Nexus), when they have been putting out mediocre, at best, updates to existing lineups. (my opinion…RELAX)

  Just a thought. Don’t care either way as I am crossing fingers for Nexus, which I am 98% sure is coming for VZW. But there are others who will be most tearful if that ends up being the case.

    • I just figured it would be because the Charge and Bionic were. Dammit, I really hope it is. I have no way of spending any more than that. And this phone will be the one that I use for 2 years. I’ve never done it with another phone, but this is the one that I do.

• Not only do I not see any bloatware, I also don’t see any TouchWiz stuff in there, and most especially NO BING!   I’m starting to want this more and more the closer it gets to launching.

  • The BIONIC is not a bad phone at all. People who don’t own one are probably the ones telling you different. Im not saying get it, but id say look at it in person and decide. I can tell you the qHD will look better than any other phones screen out in the sun.

    • the only reason i’m willing to wait is because of locked bootloader. screen doesn’t bother me. will nexus have gorilla glass? i work in construction and my phone takes a beating. thats why i love my og 🙂

• Is navigation built into the maps.apk?  I know you can navigate from the current Maps app but i was under the impression is was just a hand off

  • Yes, I believe so.

  • Tis – along with Latitude, etc, that’s partly why the Maps apk has gotten so large.

• I hope the PlusOne.apk means there will be functionality like HTC Status has with it’s Facebook button.  I would love a softkey in the bottom tray that lets you +1 a websites, app, song, whatever with one press while you’re in it.  If you can share it, or a screencap, to your stream via a pop-up, without leaving the app you’re in, even better.

• If this ends up getting released on Nov. 3rd as was previously rumored, that will be one hell of a weekend. I’ll be first in line to upgrade to this from my OG Droid, and the next day get to see Louis CK live. crossing my fingers!

• The only thing I am worried about are Samsung’s radios. Specifically the Wifi and 4G LTE. I really wish they would throw in some Moto hardware. I guess that will be the Next Nexus, from MotoGoogle.

  • That is my wish, a moto nexus device. I do not trust sammy nor htc on build nor sound quality.

• As much as a hate to buy another Samsung device (had nothing but failures…dvd player, bluray, 2 tvs, and a phone) If this had no bloat and no (Apple look) Touchwiz I just might have to bit on this one versus the HTC Vigor. I can’t have a without a AMOLED screen. (Have an Droid Incredible currently)

  • Only 3 things remain that might prevent me from getting one of these:

    1. Poor battery life.  This can go either way. I am just worried about the NP due to its thinness after seeing only mediocre battery life with Bionics and the extended battery. 

    2. No microHDMI-out.  This seems to be a given.  With ICS and this kind of horsepower and LTE, I could envision using video-out even more than I do now.   But MHL dongles are a joke.  I really wish Verizon would have forced Sammy to carry over the Droid Charge’s HDMI port. 

    3. Still a chance of WVTA (800×480) resolution like the GS II siblings.   But all signs are pointing to a 720p screen so we should be OK.

• Well, with the new LTE based GS2HD Samsung announced in Korea, you can see what the NP would be like.
  The only thing I didn’t like about is the screen.  Even though it’s HD, Samsung went back to the Pentile.  It’s not Super AMOLED Plus-HD, which mean the display will eat up lots of juice just like the first GS.

• I don’t see this in any way reflecting the final build or retail release. The leak we saw yesterday with the phone running ICS wasn’t even complete and was a beta build.

  • Don’t be so sure, early leaks of the Thunderbolt’s system dump and RUU (back in January I believe) had bloatware in it well before the actual release of the phone.

    Not saying you’re wrong though. Nothing is ever final till it’s available to order by consumers. 🙂

    • That’s for sure, not ’til we get it in our hands is anything guaranteed.

• Looking so far, I just hope Verizon keeps their Red paws off 🙂  If this device shaps up to be a beast then look out I might have to stop by the store and pick up my new Ice Cream Sandwich with that delicous Google flavor 🙂

    • Wouldn’t you be able to defeat that by holding up a picture of the phone’s owner? Sure, it provides protection if a stranger picks up your phone, but not someone you know.

    • I’d like to have a slider Nexus phone but the rumored 4.65″ screen is a deal breaker. I can handle the phone being a little thicker but all these 4.3+ inch phones are too big in the other directions.

  • I hope not. All you need is a swype style keyboard and you’ll never have to slide the keypad out again. I’m just speaking out of frustration b/c my OG Droid slides open in my pocket all the time and brain farts when I close it & try to unlock it after.

      • Worst part is that it’s rooted, running Peter Alfonso’s Ginger Bread w/ the CPU maxed and it still does this all the time. Arghhhh.

        • GB, no matter who builds it, just does not run well on my OG. It’s not terrible, but it’s enough stuff that it bugs me. I have been on PE 4.2 for a while now. Smooth as silk. I do miss the system wide copy and paste though.

           Another thing is the .8.6 Launcher Pro messes with my keyboard and other keyboarded phones. He as yet to fix this bug. It’s all over the reviews for LP in the market.

    • I’ve had my Droid since launch. The sliding mechanism is just as solid as it was when I got it. No case either.

      • The slider’s not broken by any means. It just slides open enough for the phone to trigger landscape mode when I forget to take it out of my pocket & sit down.

        • mine does the same thing were it pops open just enough to trigger the screen on, also i got a replcement a few months ago and when i got the new one it almost felt like my old one was broken because the springs were out in the slider, unfortionatly i think i have killed the springs again.

      • Same. No issues with slider.
        My OG droid’s only issue has been the power button, but that is more my fault for jamming it into a case by that button on top too many times.
        I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on the bionic, so I’m hoping this might be the guy that replaces old faithfull.
        For those of you that own samsung devices out there, are you all happy with the phone itself? I have never been unhappy with a Moto product. Tough, works well, good actual phones.
        I am really excited to see what all is coming out before Christmas. I am ready for my OG Droid to retire.

        • I went from using every Motor Droid device to a Nexus S and am happy with the Samsung. Moto definitely has them beat on the build quality, well the feel of it. Both are built Berry well bit Motor feels a bit better to the hand. Not sure why…might be because of weight and materials but I am extremely happy with my first Samsung phone.

          On that note…I really hope Moto comes out with a vanilla android phone. If not I will be sporting the new Nexus.

        • i switched my droid X for a fascinate
          it is MUCH lighter, and the rounded edges make it fit conformable in the hand the back does feel plasticy, but.. thats because it is plastic no suprise there, but overall i feel the phone is a solid build, but not as durable as the droid X and its metal body, but overall i enjoy it more than the X

          plus the unl0ck3d boot loader is a real nice plus

• Does anyone rememper the Verizon M.A.P? They had the Droid Charge from Samsung coming to an end on 9/30/11. Assuming that the Stratosphere is replacing the Fascinate as it was reported, then this phone should be arriving no later than October, right?

  • I’ve read (from pretty credible sources) that it will actually be released the first week of November. However, things always change.
