  • I’m in north GA and got my 2.3.3 – 4.5.596 update last night around 11pm. There’s a few more changes than I thought there’d be, it looks better and performs a little faster.
    I didn’t root my OG Droid, my Incredible, or my current DX, but with GB on it now, I’m ready to give it a try.
    Over clocking to 1.3G is a bit cheaper than buying the same phone, but running a dual core 1-G.
    IMO that would be a STUPID purchase.
    Hopefully the wait won’t be long on a rooting method for the DX with GB – 596.

  • Quick question, does the GB update turn the notification bar from gray to black? Sounds minor, but I’ve been itching for that for a while, and since I don’t root, it’s killing,me that I can’t have it!

    • You can delete notifications one by one now instead of the clear all option.
      My phone is much more responsive and snappy after the ota update.

    • It turns it VERY dark blue. The entire notification pull down is dark blue. The update makes quite a few changes, and I’m sure you’ll love it. I might try rooting it as soon as instructions are given. I haven’t rooted anything yet. Original Droid, Incredible, or my DX. I might do it this time.

      • It as in another dl post bout gingerbread. It we said it’s supposed to slowly be rolling out until the first when it can be pulled manually according to kellex’s former post

    • May 30th 2:37 am and still nothing. I know Several People who has the Droid X and none of them have seen the update either.

  • Ok this is the one thing that is bothering me about every GB leak I have done and now I’m on this 596. Every time I set the camera resolution to 8mp instead of the default WS it reverts back to WS every time I reboot. Is this happening to anyone else? It was fine on Froyo and held the 8mp setting. Thanks in advance 🙂

    is necessary at this time.” I am on 2.3.340.MB810.

  • I’ve had my DX for a couple months now. I’m trying to decide whether to root it or not. 
    Hmmmm. I guess I’ll wait for the stock GB and see how it runs after that. 

    • Thats what this release is. The over the air stock GB that is being pushed out to people who signed up on Motorola’s website to get the update a few weeks before its pushed out to everyone. But while Motorola is pushing it out to those people who signed up with them anyone with a DX can try and pull the update and get it. So if you go to your settings and check for update you might be able to get the GB update, and it sounds like there’s already a build made so you can root after you get the stock update. 🙂 just wanted to let you know that this isn’t for rooted DX ‘s I’ve noticed alot of people are thinking its a leaked version of GB to flash to a rooted DX and its not its for everyone to pull in 🙂

  • No update yet, but Netflix has taken the Droid X off their blocked hardware list . Stock Netflix download app working on my stock 2.3.340  DX

  • What sucks is that Verizon actually has the instructions to upgrade on the support site now and the benefits document, yet we can’t get it.

  • If I was rooted but unrooted a while back can I still get the update without manually doing it?

  • Sacrificed the fiancee’s cat and ex-husband to the GB Gods.  Still no GB but my life has improved:)

    • +1 on that!!!! I just don’t understand why he hasn’t – most of us AREN’T rooted. I see no good reason to root.

      • The more I see from the Android modding community, the more I question the conventional wisdom that most users aren’t rooted. I would honestly guess it’s approaching 50/50 at this point. And really, why wouldn’t you want full control over a de viec you bought and paid for?

        • for me, it’s because I don’t know what to do once my phone is rooted. I originally rooted so that I could get wifi on my Xoom (please, nobody start berating me for “stealing” data…), and then when the phone stopped charging when plugged in, Verizon wouldn’t honor my warranty. My own damn fault for not thinking before answering the technician’s question “have you tried rooting your device?”… bastard made it sound like it was a possible solution to my trouble, and then comes out with “well you voided your warranty, bitch”. argh

          • there already is a regular update.zip for people running stock up if you know where to find it…I’ll just be playing with my gingerbread house…

    ran to phone to see text from verizon telling me to expect an message….
    minutes later I get another  ((D R O I D))
    only the get a VERIZON text to experience 30 days free of VZ NAV….
    NO GB   now Big  Red toying with my emotions

    Running a lot faster, so tired now been up all night trying to unroot my phone. Idk whether not to try out Gingerbreak and see if that roots my phone. Just have enough energy to post up.

    • Apparently no one wants to share the update because of their “agreement” with Motorola… like they’re gonna come to their house with a fkn swat team and arrest them at gunpoint.

      Not to mention, if they did upload the update with a random username, Motorola would have NO CLUE who the hell they are.

      • They can trace thru IP address. Even if you try to hide it, thats alot of work to do all that just to get a file out. Safe than sorry for Devs and other users.

  • Android Central is reporting that Gingerbread is already rooted…….F**KING SWEET !!!!!!!! Now if I could only get the update 😛

  • So I was supposed to be in the soak, but still no update for me! Droid Life told me that if I install (unrooted) version .595 that I would be able to receive the update for .596. Is this not the case??

    • seems to be the case as I to was decived into the .595 and was appeared to be in the soak I’m gonna go sfb back to stock 2.2 and try again.

  • I was rooted running stock 2.2, and the update showed up on my phone – and I wasn’t a part of any test group.  Update ran successfully.

  • Here is a picture for proof. I hope all of you get GB as soon as possible. I think you all will be extremely happy with the update. 

      • Yes, my phone is running fast and smooth. It has not shut down and lagging seems to be a thing of the past. 

        *Side Note* About an hour before I was able to pull the update, my phone shut down on me randomly and it was running very (very) slow. The main icons (Dialer, App Arrow and Contacts) were on the top right hand side instead of the in the middle where they normally are. I don’t know if this had anything to do we me being able to pull the update. I would keep an eye out if your DX starts acting weird because mine was acting real weird prior to me being able to pull the update.

        • Mine acted similar last night, along with getting the message about not being able to contact the server to check for updates. Ended up doing a battery pull cuz it froze, but no GB….

          • Mine did exactly the same last night and I just thought it was my phone……should we maybe check into this? Im currently running .588

  • Woke up with install downloaded on phone and prompted to install. Have declined because I don’t want to lose my root. It will be a pain having to decline it every hour on the hour

    • can you check your cache? should be located at /cache and i believe it will be a .zip. if so can you post it for everyone?

      • it’s kinda ridiculous that no one has done this yet… ppl are a little selfish (except p3droid), but even he is leaving those of us that are on un-rooted stock froyo for last. Just post up a damn update.zip!

        • That’s what i’m saying. The only reason I ever rooted is to take screenshots and I don’t even need root for that as long as you have the Android SDK

  • I pulled the Gingerbread Update at 12:03 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. I was not part of the “Soak Test” but I’m not complaining about being able to pull the update. 

    P.S. Official Gingerbread is awesome

    • If you’re not part of the soak test, your phone wont be pulling anything until at least Tuesday. :/

        • I wasnt in the soak, and my update came through (pulled it) at 9:18 pm last night west coast

  • I’m rooted, and I feel like a loser who wasn’t invited to the party, but is watching from outside of the house. It looks so much fun in there.

    • I am wondering the same thing. All I have done under root is some Titanium backups. No custom ROMs. I have unrooted with z4 and still can’t pull the update. Don’t really want to SBF back to 2.3.340 just to get GB. If I can’t get GB without SBF, I’ll probably just wait until GB gets rooted.

  • Forgive me but I’m a noon to this…I rooted my phone with Z4 root…. no custom roms or anything just basic root. Can I just unroot with Z4 and then be ready for the OTA. I Dont want to mess this phone up…

    • Do you need a new pair of glasses? That is an OLD post from way back in March. One of the first GB leaks for DX.

    • Plug phone into computer via USB in mass storage mode. Look either in the /cache folder or the dl folder on the phone. Locate file. Copy file. SHARE FILE!!!

        • I did two battery pulls and waited almost 45 min for all the kinks to work out. I was really disappointed at first bc the home screen kept flashing over and over but once it kicked in it’s fast as hell.

        • It took over 45min for all the kinks to work out. When it first pulled I had to pull the battery twice and the home screen kept flashing. None of my apps worked. But with time it sorted itself out.

      • You had to be registered in MFN (Motorola Feedback Network) prior to Sunday. It’s too late now. Everyone else will get the update by June 1st.

  • I checked here in LA and nothing for my DX. I thought I would wait a little while and check again so I got some Chipotle, took a shit, killed some annoying guy named Chad and then checked again but still nothing. Maybe by morning.

    i have been running GB for a while.  I don’t want to go back to stock to download something that I already have

      • I think mine .573,  I just wanted to know if I needed to get it.  If there is nothing new or different from the leaked version then why bother

  • i just got the update.. i was using previously running 2.2.1 rooted. seems to be running well.

  • Woke up from a nap and my DX prompted me that the update was ready to be installed. I know for a fact I’m not a tester, one of the lucky firsts I guess. Its def a nice changed. Eating some gingerbread cookies now, om nom nom.

    • u must not understand that updates are rolled out in sets, not all at once…. so there wont be network clogging issues, this update will take over a week to reach everyone….

    • .595 will NOT take the update as it was originally said. You need to be on stock Froyo to pull the update now.
