  • I wonder how this compared to the $150 Shield TV tube. I have the Shield TV $199 unit in 1 room and am leaning that way just for the same remote in each room.

  • The new chromecast with google tv makes me grumpy – I cannot help but wonder if this will hold back proper youtube music chromecast support. The idea that they haven’t implemented free chromecast streaming of youtube music is probably the biggest WTF in a recent google history full of WTFs.

  • I’m hoping they already have these things how for reviewers before the announcement. This looks cool, but I’m a bit suspicious of how responsive it will be with such a small device.

    • AMLogic S905X2 means its basically a MiBox S in terms of performance. Not impressive but good enough for 4k HDR streaming – It has got to be stadia 4k capable, right? At 50 dollars it replaces Chromecast Ultra which was over 60USD and didn’t incorporate android tv.

  • That $99 speaker price will be dropped to $79 in two months for Black Friday.
AA battery? Google’s track record on battery usage is going to make that remote expensive to operate. 700,000+ movies/TV shows? We get that on our phones already with a Chromecast and the right apps with a monthly fee. Nothing nNothing ground breaking.
    Nothing groundbreaking.

    • U wont have to use ur phone and it should have support for stadia, Ima get one to put in my car because i already have 3 shield tv’s

    • I’m getting this for the master bedroom TV where occasionally TV use is the norm, so I don’t need another Shield TV (which is the main floor setup) – I’ve already got a gen 2 Chromecast here, why not add a dedicated remote and Google TV built in? This seems like a great, cheap 2nd TV option for a lot of folks.

  • I just hope that the remote for the this thing works better than the nexus player. That thing used to lag pretty hard.

      • Like it used to lag pretty hard when it released. Like it would go to sleep or something and the first button press you did would take like 3 seconds then it would work fine until you stopped using it. Then it would fall asleep.

          • @andrewmc23:disqus same with my Sony XBR55X900F. It annoys me that we can’t use the newer Sony TV remotes without full functionality of the “smartTV” functions of the remote.

        • My Nexus Player never got any regular use because it was terrible. I would try again when updates came out, and it never improved. My Roku, Apple, and Fire devices were more responsive.

    • I used mine from shortly after its launch until a couple months ago. I never really had any issues with lag.
