Yes Folks, December 15 is Verizon’s New Target for the Galaxy Nexus

We reported this yesterday, but will say it one more time for those that missed it in the random XYBOARD post. Verizon is telling ALL employees, stores, managers, and indirects that December 15 is the new target just like they did with December 9. Not much else to say, cross your fingers that we have zero 4G outages and inventory levels pick up between now and then. Rumors of this Sunday or Monday or Tuesday are flying around forums, but that’s not what stores are being told. If those happen, you should be surprised.

FWIW, this is an email from my Verizon guy this morning ” I just spoke to one of my district managers, he told me that the launch date for the Nexus maybe pushed out to the end of the month or beginning of next.” AS ALWAYS, take this for what it is….something said by a rep in a store.

At least you people have VZW’s around you that have even the slightest bit of information. I called my local store last week and the guy almost didn’t even know what the nexus was, i call tonight and “They don’t have a launch date set.”

I went to my local Verizon store today. They wouldn’t tell me whether or not they had it in stock, but they did say they couldn’t sell it either way. I got my name put on a wait list and they said they would call me when they had a release date. What surprised me the most was that no one tried to direct me to a Razr or Rezound.

Radio Shack is selling them right now apparently, I just got off the phone with them and they are holding one of them for me. So if this is all true expect to see another unboxing post on here real soon!

      Mikewoods94 got them to do a manual checkout, which would work. They told me they couldn’t do that with a cell phone. The shack guy was sympathetic, and was afraid of repercussions if he tried to sell it.

For what it is worth I just got done talking to a National Retail Account Manager at a Best Buy near my house. I have talked to him before and I get the feeling he is a straight shooter. We live near each other and our kids have gone to the same schools, he even encouraged me to return my Razr last week if I did not like it so I don’t think he would BS me…. He swears that the delay is being caused by the 4G problems. He said that the latest update he got was in a conference call on Friday morning. They are running on back up servers and as of now have not managed to get the main servers back up. He speculates that it would be bad news for Verizon if they launched the Nexus and it brought the 4G network to it’s knees. Especially so close to Christmas. He says that the 15th is within the realm of possibility but he has not been told it will happen yet and he is in charge of a state and a half of stores. The last thing I asked him was why no big advert campaign for the Nexus and he just kinda smiled and admitted that it was going to be a soft launch but would not tell me why.
I know I am just feeding the fire but I would want to know if someone else had experinced this conversation so I figured I would post it.
Here’s hoping for the 15th!

  Pardon, but that makes about as much sense as tomatoes growing in the snow. What’s the difference whether people come in buy and activate the Nexus or another 4G device. Is there something special about the Nexus? Just think about all the people that are renting another 4G device until the Nexus comes out. Whether they bought and activated a Razr, Rezound or a Nexus. No difference.
  
  What would be the excuse for not releasing the Nexus then? Just more of Verizon Wireless bull$h!t.

    Because the Nexus is a big release, how many thousands of android fans do you thing have been following this thing for months. Even without the mainstream public purchasing the phones, the android nerds that buy it WILL be putting a lot of strain on the network. I don’t want to buy my brand new Nexus 4G phone expecting to rock DL and UL speeds only to watch as the 4G network comes crashing down around me. They are still selling other 4G devices because none are really high demand releases that will cause a ton more strain on the network.

  You’re not feeding anything but waste. What a total crap post and I don’t believe a word of it. You like to see your screen name on the internet. Save the talking out of your ass for whatever acquaintances you know who are nice enough to pretend to tolerate you.
  
  This is VZW being assholes. This behavior cost them the original iPhone. They make a killing from $1,000s of dollars coming in from 2 year contracts in exchange for a few hundred dollars. But that isn’t enough for them. Until iPhone, the crippled the capabilities of phones that their customers had already paid for, so VZW could charge them again to use those phones’ capabilities? GPS on a phone. Check, but VZW would disable it and make you buy their VZNavigator service.
  
  Everyone knew Google Wallet was part of ICS back in the concept stages. VZW agreed, then, when Samsung spent millions manufacturing and distributing the phone, VZW pulls this crybaby I-want-it-both-ways tantrum. Any first year contracts student would have a field day with issue-spotting this. Google, VZW obviously doesn’t care about its customers. It’s time for you and Samsung to use your combined clout and the political influence Google has spent tons of cash buying to publicize VZW’s anti-competitve behavior. If VZW and the industry’s crap payment system is so great, put it head to head against Google Wallet. If you don’t want to compete with Google Wallet, don’t tell everyone you’re accepting a Nexus phone. I am glad I’m out of contract w Verizon. Their service is great but that’s due to their taking over from NYNEX and big ass ma bells. It’s like a president’s daughter or trust fund kid’s telling herself and anyone who will listen that she made it to Stanford, Wall St and the networks because of talent and hard work.

So i got a Galaxy nexus story…
Today i wanted to try my luck just for the hell of it and i called a local radio shack to see if they currently had the phone. The lady said to me “We have one more in stalk but a man is coming in later today to get it so its first come first serve.” As soon as i heard this i jumped into my car ready to go and pick it up. When i got there i was in luck because the man did not come yet. I thought i was in the clear because they were setting up a family plan for me and the nexus was going to be the line added to my current out but then thats when the bs started rolling in…The guy was able to enter in my talk and text for $99 but he was not able to enter in the $30 extra for data. He was struggling and the lady that knew how to do the activation was already busy with a customer so he went on to call Verizon. As soon as i heard he was going to do that i already knew that the nail was knocked into the coffin. He was sorry to tell me that he could not sell me the phone until next Sunday and i was so disappointed. On the bright side apparently another radio shack close to me told me he has the phone and is able to sell it to me on Monday. So this is when im going to try my luck again in purchasing it.

  as much as i would love that petition to work, i think it’s a dumb argument. They already stated that it would release before the end of the year, and never publicly gave a specific date, which gives them as much time as they want. Believe me, i want the phone as much as you do, but the argument about people needing a new cell phone is irrelevant in this petition since there are plenty of other phones to choose from. All we want to really know is why it’s not out yet since Matias went on the Verge and said it would come out in November, but didn’t want to give the exact date.

After playing with the phone for 15 minutes I was impressed. It was fast, no lag, and taking pictures was instant as advertised. So far so good. It was light as hell and the screen was amazing. A shame I had my phone in my hands but couldnt take it home

  Of course the women tried selling me the RAZR instead. Its crazy how much they are pushing that phone. As I type this there is a picture to the right with a review lol I just drove downtown Baltimore tonight and I saw 3 huge billboards with the RAZR on it. It is crazy how much they are marketing this phone and pushing sales people (direct and indirect) to sell this phone. The poor Rezound doesnt stand a chance.

Just wanted to let everyone know, go into the store and ask. I went in today and purchased one. Had to activate the sim card myself cause the rep said he would get in trouble, but they are for sure there.

I called everywhere after finding out that someone bought one from a non Verizon store. Found someone dumb enough to sell it to me but he had non in stock. He said he would call me back, he called and talked with his rep. The rep told him that this thing will be in his store tomorrow but NOT to sell it to anyone until next Thursday, just like article says. I was so damn close, if he had it in stock it would have been MINE! hahah.

Today, the most trusted date for release as of a few days ago (now known to be pushed back, of course), I went and changed carriers to Sprint and got a Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch and couldn’t be happier. Screw Verizon. They botched the Bionic, the GS2 and now the Nexus. They lost my business.

Went to a Radio Shack that was going to sell me the phone. The manager then said that he could not sell it until Sunday. He confirmed by calling his boss. He let me play with a Galaxy Nexus though and let me take some photos.
