“Official” DROID3 and Bionic Bootstraps Land on the Market

If you were waiting for the official versions of the DROID3 and Bionic bootstrap to hit the market, then today is your day.  Both are available for $2.99 as are all bootstraps.  The “unofficial” versions that we have posted should work just fine for now though, but probably won’t receive updates like these market versions will.

Cheers DL app tipster!

Going from the OG Droid to the D3 is like dumping your girlfriend who was “hot enough” and you knew what she was going to do and she was a lot more “open” about things.  She wasn’t quite as smart, and could stand to lose some weight, but damnit she wanted to do anything that you wanted to do.Then you start dating her much hotter sister with whom everything looks great on the outside but then turns out to be a psycho who “lags” around when it comes time to go “home”, freaks out when you try to take her picture, and has “locked” opinions about the world which she refuses to compromise with.Deep down you just wish that you could combine the two and have the ultimate girlfriend, a nexus of the two extremes, but such is life…unless you start looking outside the family;)(see what I did there?)

Or you could have bought a Bionic.

      • Stephen D

The Bionic has a locked bootloader too…which is exactly what he was talking about…dumbass.

Anyone else getting an error when hitting “accept and pay” when trying to buy this? Is it because im not on wifi and Verizon is blocking me?

    • vash

      same thing here…

  • Kylch

So I bootstrapped with the unofficial version and flashed clockwork with rom manager. Can I rebootstrap with the official? thanks

    • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

Koush said all older versions should be removed first, before going to the official, as some changes were made I assume.

      • Kylch

How to remove the older version?

  • Rick

oh yea I almost forgot keep your ugly ass widgets and lame blur too !

Stupid question….I’m coming from an OG Droid that’s long since been rooted but I also had an SBF to get back to stock had I so desired.  The Bionic doesn’t have an SBF as far as I’m aware.  Now to the question..do I have to be rooted to bootstrap the recovery?  What I’m asking is, can I bootstrap recovery before I root, and backup the phone as is BEFORE root.  Yes, I know I can unroot whenever, but, I want a clean backup before I start messing around with the phone.

  • Rick

You know what, STRAP THIS !  Moto keep your phone and your locked bootloader.

  • Qbanito1967

I have the paid version of clockworkmod and totally agree if I need this to flash roms etc I don’t mind paying. These guys do all the work.

How are these “official”? They aren’t made by Motorola…

    • Anonymous

      official…made by koush…

    • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

Umm that’s why its called “Official” and not Official. Note the quotes.

      • http://briefmobile.com/ Korey Nicholson

That makes no sense at all, unless it’s being used as sarcasm or mocking the fact it’s not official then what? lol

        • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

It’s official from the developer being Koush, there were a couple other version made by others, those aren’t considered official. And now that he has released these, they are official. Best way to sum it up :-)

          • http://briefmobile.com/ Korey Nicholson

Okay perfect! That’s a great explanation. Thank you :)

  • Qbanito1967

I have rooted all phones that I have owned. This is my first Motorola phone (Droid 3). What exactly is bootstrap?

    • Anonymous

how you get to recovery. hit bootstrap, then hit recovery

    • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

Bootstrap is basically a different version of a true recovery. Because the bootloaders are locked on motorola phones, they need to use bootstraps instead. What it does is hijacks the system before it boots up and allows you to do most things that you could do with a traditional recovery.

      • Qbanito1967

        Awesome thanks

  • Andrew Akker

There are also *free* versions of *all* Bootstrap apps available to download here:

    http://download.clockworkmod.com//test/

You *don’t* have to buy it.

    • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

If you like something, you *should* support the developer. He went out of his way to buy phones to build these, a little respect for him would be ideal…

      • Lakerzz

        ^ This

        • fartbubbler

          VERY ^ This.

          • 1loudls

^^^not only this^^^   but if you want more developers to make more things like this, more often, then i suggest you reward them by “buying” their software, i cant really think of a better incentive for them other than paying them for all of the hard work that they put in, and the things that they make possible.

      • Andrew Akker

Ok? You *do* realize that other devs do this work before him (Hashcode for the D3, cvpcs for the Bionic), releases it for free, and all he does is make it “official” and releases it on the market for a price.

        • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

I believe this post is about Market versions, you should read the whole article and keep it on topic. :-) To everyone else: SUPPORT YOUR DEVELOPERS IF YOU LIKE THE WORK, if you can’t afford it then don’t go buy it, but be sure to tell them thanks for all the hard work!

          • Andrew Akker

I will always support developers by thanking them for their work and hardship for the phones that we own, but in no way does this deserve to be put on the market for a price when they have already been released for free.

          • http://twitter.com/huntken Dick Fitzwell

So you’re telling me the man deserves 0 appreciation for going out of his way to buy these phones to do them officially and to keep support up for them?!?!? WTF ARE YOU SMOKING? Its people like you that tick me off, greedy and think others should do things for them always…get a life kid, grow up.

          • Anonymous

More like this thing is not worth the price and has very limited value as of now.

          • Anonymous

This is a prime example why most developers quit after awhile or have “attitudes”

        • Cgmartin33

3 bucks too rich for your blood? Unbelievable! Probably the same guy that stiffs his waitress a few dollars after spending 60 bucks on food.
