DROID X Orders Backed up to 9/22, Incredible Lands on “Certified Pre-owned List”

The Droid X seems to have been plagued with the same stock issues as the Droid Incredible, although as far as we know should have nothing to do with screen availability.  We really have to assume that delayed shipments are from high demand and a need for users to have such a big a** screen taking up every last inch of their Diesel jeans pocket.  As you can see from the shot above, the DX has now been pushed back to 9/22 as the next available shipping date, but reports from many of our readers lead us to believe that they are arriving much earlier.  In fact, a meager 8 day delay isn’t too bad really.

In semi-related news, the Droid Incredible has landed on Verizon’s “Certified Pre-owned” device list which we’re still trying to wrap our heads around.  Obviously they are listed as “out of stock” but what’s really baffling is why someone would go this route to purchase their next phone.  Interested parties are still required to lock into a new 2-year contract to receive discounting pricing on the “pre-owned” device which really only lands you a $50 difference from a brand new device.  That worth it?

Anyone’s Droid X arrive early?  Anyone interested in a pre-owned device?

  • Verizon seems to think they are sufficient to function as Manufacturer warranty replacements. Even though your warranty date stays the same. Thanks

  • My Incredible just received the Android 2.2 update today. So far, I love it. However, sometimes I will open up my task killer and see random apps open, that I never opened. Like…

  • Actually the Certified Pre Owned (CPO) does not include a contract and the Droid is $100 off the list price.

  • Actually, no contract on pre owned and it is $100 off the list price.

I received the Droid x after I was on a wait list for the incredible for 6 weeks. I finally gave up and waited 4 weeks longer for my X. I was pleased with it at first until 5 weeks later the ear pice malfunctioned and I could not hear anything, not a phone ringing on the other end, not a voice ….nothing. After 2 1/2 hrs at the verizon store they sent for me to receive a new one, or so I thought. When it arrived as promised the next day I was delighted only to find it was a refurbished phone. Ridiculous! I paid full price 5 weeks prior and because they have a faulty product I am receiving a “fixed” model. I am disqusted with verizon. We have purchased plans for most the executives in our firm and I can assure you we will not renew any of them. How unfortunate. Maybe it does not matter to Verizon but, they've lost atleast 60 plans. That does make me feel better. I guess we'll try I phones. I'm hoping for better service. Buyer beware.

My DX was supposed to ship on 9/8 but it was at the door on the 9/3 so it is possible that it shows up early. one week wait for me was worth it, my buddy bought the D2 because he didnt want to wait but was kinda upset at how fast mine came.

  • Equis

My husband and I both bought droid x's and they arrived about five our six days early. That was two weeks ago. No thanks to verizon or fed ex on that one though… Verizon left off our number so fed ex wouldn't deliver it even when I offered to show my I D and gave them the tracking number… When I called customer service they wouldn't even reroute the package to a closer fedex so we had to drive fourty minutes away to pick them up at that fedex only needing to give them the tracking number and show my id. The whole ordeal was ridiculous……. But yes. We got them early.

  • Rob

Update, just got my shipping notification 9/15 🙂 Should be here tomorrow. YAY! Delay my arse!

  • lakerzz

Ordered my DX on sept. 5th, (online) and got it today. It was supposed to be shipped on the 20th.

  • Petesmaq

I just ordered the Droid X this past Sun morning, 2 days ago. Verizon sent me an email saying it would ship in two weeks. I just received it via FedEx today(tues.) I guess maybe i just got really lucky??

  • slackdroid

got mine after 8 days. Less than half of what they told me at the verizon store! 4.3 inches of deliciousness…mmmmmm…

  • Beaker

Ordered one for myself & one for my wife Sun night 9/12 (so effectively 1st thing Mon morning9/13), both arrived this afternoon (9/14).

  • Drktodd

Order a couple today and they shipped the same day.

  • Freedomsearcher2442

They also do cpo for out of warranty or lost stolen replacement with no contract extension through customer service or in store.

  • Beth in Chicago

In this economy, $50 might make the difference between someone getting a phone now or having to wait for Santa to bring them one…

  • Fahque As-Hohl

Apparently Motorola needs some manufacturing help.

  • Jay

“Interested parties are still required to lock into a new 2-year contract to receive discounting pricing on the “pre-owned” device which really only lands you a $50 difference from a brand new device. That worth it?” Or if you dont't feel like upgrading and signing for another 2 years or your not eligible for an upgrade you can buy a CPO phone for a one year contract price ($269) and ride out your old contract, my droid was CPO.

  • Lttlblkdress

I ordered my droid X on Saturday, September 11th in the evening and it said the expected ship date was 9/22… well a lovely surprise arrived in my email yesterday saying it had been shipped! And it arrived today. So from shipping on 9/22 to shipping on 9/13 is not much of a wait at all!

  • Whysoawesome

order on the 9th…. arrived on the 13th… and there's obviously a weekend in there.

  • Elliotthj91

  • Mycul222

And operates flawlessly* not proofing my post DOES make me an idiot

  • Mycul222

I got the droid x from the pre owned list. Looks perfect and fun fiona flawlessly all for$ 50 less. If that makes me an idiot I believe I can live with that

  • Jason

Ordered my X last Monday, was told it would ship on the 20th. Got the shipping e-mail this morning, Fed-Ex has it arriving tomorrow. Woo.

  • CharlieK

I ordered my Droid X on Thursday, Sept. 2, and was told it would ship on the 15th or 16th. It arrived today, Sept. 14. Got no work done at my desk this afternoon, just playing with the new toy. Loving it so far.

  • Gpicks

Sorry last Tuesday was the 7th…

  • Gpicks

I ordered my Droid X at a store last Tuesday the 14th and just got off of the phone with Verizon with a Fedex tracking number for a delivery by 3:00 tomorrow the 15th. Guess they are padding the delivery dates! I hope the 2.2 update happens soon. I can't wait!!!

  • ddogg845

I don't think they are backed up because when i went to the verizon store to order the droid x the website said the 14th and it came on the 14th

  • edwardeal26

Well, about the “pre-owned” device….Verizon seems to think they are sufficient to function as Manufacturer warranty replacements. Even though your warranty date stays the same. Not only do they mail you a “used” or as they call it “like-new” replacement (which means a phone with a shortened life span), but dont extend the warranty date. Guess it doesnt really pay to get a smartphone 🙁

    • Reallyniceguy

Can you proove this “shortened lifespan” ? I got one and its the EXACT same thing as my other DX in my other line and still has a 1 year warranty. I can do early upgrade anyway so whats the big deal?

  • Dersnuka

There are online codes available to get any smartphone ordered via verizon's website for $50 off. I ordered a Droid X 3 weeks ago, new, for $150 after discount code. I got it last week and love it.

  • jblee65

I ordered two Droid X's for my wife and I on Friday, with an expected ship date of 9/21. The phones actually shipped out yesterday, though, and will be in-hand tomorrow! (I forgot to put in the free overnight shipping promo code at checkout, leaving me with the free 2-day default).

  • Michael_NM

Both of my DXs have been delivered a week early. All of my OTA's have been late…

Note to VZ: Please have the folks who predict shipping dates speak with the folks who predict software updates (aka uplates).

  • Jump

Still inside my 30 day window with the D2 I decided I wanted the DX. I called on 9/8 and was told it would ship 9/20. Got an email earlier today that it shipped and will be here on 9/15.

  • Jimmyzzzdroid

My x is suppose to arrive on sept. 15th via fed ex. i was also told to wait til the 22nd before it would be shipped, but i received a new email the other day with tracking number and it says the 15th…..whew

  • Kostonkiddo9

I got mine on the 8th(shipped the 6th) when it was supposed to ship the 13th and deliver the 15th. Im typing on it right now and i loved that beautiful email saying “Notice: Your order# ********** has just been shipped.”

  • bizarospeak

I upgraded to a DX on 9/7 and was told it would ship out between the 20-22. Good to know it could arrive sooner! I can't WAIT to ditch my LG Dare! 😛

  • Bowman

Ordered Droid X last night and it shipped out this morning and I will have it in hand tomorrow says FedEx 🙂

  • Junkemailaddress42

I ordered my Droid X on August 25th and at that time it said it would ship on 9/17 but I ended up recieving it 4 days before that date which must mean it shipped at least 5 days early.

  • wolverinefan

If anyone thinks got it back wait and here this 6 droid phones that sucked especially with the stock update. VZ game me an early upgrade so i got DroidX well one week with it love the phone battery dies in 4 hours and camera dont work its a black screen. Today they sent me the Droid X cerfied and pre-owned. Tired of VZ stupidity sent something that workds

    • Thradriend

      what he said.

  • Pindaroo

Ordered my DX 8/31, told it would arrive 9/14, got it 9/8, so they're definitely over-shooting shipping.

  • gotsoot

The ship date is always changing, but its not like someone who ordered a DX on August 26th is going to have to wait until Sept 22nd. Its merely and indicator of the lead time that it will take before it ships. So if you order a DX today, it will ship no later than 9/22. It may ship much faster.

  • strikeir13

FWIW, I ordered a pre-owned DX when they were available and I haven't looked back. My phone has 100% of the functionality of a new phone, not to mention it LOOKS as though it just came out of the box. It's possible it was a return from someone who used it once and didn't like it, but for a phone that is INDISTINGUISHABLE from a new phone, I'll buy that for $50 less.

I got it in two days from my order, as well. It was — and is — totally worth it.

  • Dan

Maybe DX will start shipping with 2.2, maybe that is the delay?? Just a thought. This delay is driving me insane! I for one, purchased my DX the morning of the day it came out.. NO FLASH! WHAT! If I didn't absolutely LOVE the phone.. why i'd.. 😉

    • Mazz0310

Well considering the date it may be a possibility….but then again why would they take the time to install the update on all the phones when a simple OTA will do it in the future.

      • Dan H.

        Because people are dumb

  • BeinDroid

What would you go for D1 or Incredible? I am stuck with an Eris and was offered half off a refurb phone. Or should I wait a few months for X or 2 to go pre-owned?

    • G.CRUZ

Sup bro, well if it was up to me id go for the incredible.. I have The X and The Incredible.. Incredible Is still faster than the X.. But the X has a few more cool features.. If You like HTC stick with the Incredible..

  • Bill

the pre-owned is aimed at the idiots

  • Blackbeard

Ordered Sep 9th, Delivery Confirmation Sep 13th and Delivered Sep 14th so they are definitely shipping sooner than they suggest. My order said it would ship Sep 21.

  • T3lancer2007

I will be complaining to verizon about this replacement crap on my D1 since they sent me one with the flat keyboard when my last two had the keyboards with more pronounced bumps.

However, I would not buy a preowned device for just 50.00 off.

    • Vince

Complain… if you've had your D1 replaced many times. I had mine replaced 8 times and yes i was getting the ones with the really flat keyboard as well… I did manange to get a D2 sent to me instead of another D1. I should be receiving it shortly. They even sent me a new battery.

      • t3lancer2007

I've had it since friday and it still is annoying to type on. I'll call Verizon tomorrow.

  • Dan

Not only are you lame for saying “First” but you weren't even first….Get a life.

  • quiklives

I'm wondering if the pre-owned Incredibles are ones that were traded in before their 30 days were up (for an X, for example). If that was the case, it would be worth the $50 difference because it would mean they were barely used at all.

    • JTE

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if there truely is a difference in these and refurbished devices.

      • They are handled through different channels. CPO's are returns, under the WFG. CLNR's are refurbs. I'd buy a CPO over full price any day, but then I can also check ESN's to see how long they were out there.

        • Crazing

That’s some seriously good info. Kellex, this should be edited into the article.

  • mattyboy1013

I was told my DX wont come till 9/22 as well. stuck with a voyager for a week after giving my eris to my sis for her b day 🙁

  • Rtoodeetwo

    First!

    • Dan

Not only are you lame for saying “First” but you weren't even first….Get a life.

      • Dan H.

        lol..

      • WhereIsTony

The Irony of you taking the time to post that is delicious.

        • Dan

Haha Irony…yes… but I don't post it cause of taking the time, I say that because of it not contributing to the post…yes mine doesn't either but his came first 😉

          • Michael_NM

When you complain about a “first” Gingerbread is delayed another day, Steve Jobs gets a new turtleneck, and readers “like” the aforementioned “first” post. You are correct that you weren't first… that's the point. 🙂

          • Dan

Hmm … I do think Steve Jobs has too many TurtleNecks, I just wish Droid-Life would ask that users cut down on the first posts.

Anyway not sure I get the “You are correct that you weren't first… that's the point. :)”

But anyway, I'll let the “First” posters have there way …. I'll forfeit because I'm the greater person here 🙁

      • Rtoodeetwo

        I have a Droid-life 🙂

  • zach471

I got a certified pre-owned Droid 1 as a replacement for my FUBARd D1 about 3 weeks ago. It seems to be running very well (CM6), and is pretty solid. Would have preferred getting a D2 as others were, though.

    • zepfloyd

Don't complain. I got a Droid 2 for my Droid 1 that broke (screen stopped responding after first tap unless you turned the screen off and on again…weird) the phone is overall much better than D1 and despite the ridiculous complaints, I actually LIKE the moto skin, heck the social networking stream is much better than the awful Facebook app, HOWEVER the battery life so far is dismal. I can't make it 7-8 hours without it dying and I have it set up nearly identically to my old D1, now granted they are swapping it AGAIN, but I doubt that will fix it we'll see…

  • JTE

i'll pass on the pre-owned. if you're gonna make an investment like a new smart phone, don't skimp for $50…
