Last week we were tipped to the possible existence of two new Motorola Tegra 3 devices headed for Q1 2012 codenamed the Jet and Bullet, but without confirmation from additional sources, it was definitely dubbed as one giant “rumor.” And then this weekend, we received these two pictures that are also apparently of an unannounced Motorola device in testing. Is it the Targa? Could it be the Bullet? Maybe it’s just a DROIDX2 with a fat battery cover? And of course it could be nothing at all and just a fake? It’s really impossible to tell from these pictures, so we’ll just have to let you guys decide.
What we’ve been told is that it’s a “multi-core” phone with a qHD display, that new 12MP camera we talked about last week, and a rubbery silver back that houses a 1900mAh battery. Also, there are apparently 4 devices very similar to this in testing, so again, we have no idea what this is or could be in the future.
What do I think? Well, the silver almost looks like a really bad paint job, but as those that follow this blog closely know, silver testing devices are not uncommon from Motorola. The HDMI and micro USB ports are in a similar spot to the DX and DX2, but look to be slightly lower on the side of the device, so I’d almost rule out the DX2. It doesn’t look much like the early renders we’ve seen of the Targa other than the color, so I’d lean towards ruling that out.
The odd thing is that the back piece appears to not fit at all on the back side which you can see from the small gap towards the right side of the picture. If this is indeed real, it looks to me like a DX body, but they needed to make room for new internals and went with some giant make-shift battery cover. I guess this could be a nice way to disguise an unannounced phone?
And then this picture really just looks like a DX and nothing more…
And here are two pics of my DROIDX compared to these at similar angles. As you can see, it has almost the exact same shape, but that extra silver back piece is throwing us all for a loop.
What do you guys think?

Well its a droid x… In the “unannounced” photo the black shadow on the screen makes the to look different. In the droid X pic the shadow is too small so only a lil square is blacker. Now look at the bottom right of the “unannounced” pic… See the black bar? Shift your eyes to the droid X pic… See the black bar? They paint a droid X then strategically placed something to shadow on the screen tryin to make it look different… Thats my thought…
To me, this looks like it could very well be a Droid X3, which is just freaking awesome!
I always liked the design of my Droid X over any other phone, and I really like how it has hardware buttons on the bottom rather than touch-sensitive buttons. I hope they continue the Droid X phone series, and make a version with a front-facing camera, with 1 GB of ram and a quad-core processor. That would be so awesome
great pic; is the bootloader locked?
if so, its a paper weight.

Wishful thinking: a disguised Targa, or at least the internals of the Targa. I really want the Targa.
could the gap be because what you’re seeing is a slide-out keyboard?
Could very well be.
Thinking the same thing. A white DROID 3?
If you look at the charger slot it highly indicates that the part his index finger is on is the back cover. Which would not Jive with that being the slide out screen. Droid OG, Droid 2 and even DX all have the orientation the same for the charger slot.
That was my first thought.
Thats what I was thinking, wasn’t the droid 3 supposed to have a similar sized screen to the X?
Just saw that there are 4 similar in testing…
Black / white, keyboard / candybar versions of a Bionix? Motorola has to do something in order to get HTC off its pedestal as owners of verizon with the TB and Dinc2 eating up 4G/3G respectively
Quad-core Android vs a dual-core iPhone. The scales are really tipping.
Could this be the Targa/Bionic mashup that’s supposed to be coming this summer?
That’s exactly what I’m thinking!
Correct me if I’m completely wrong, but…… the side view looks an awful like a slightly modified, white Droid Bionic.
Okay, From what i can tell this is not the Droid 3, Droid X 2 or anything else we know of coming out (obviously as weve already seen the pictures). What it looks like from the Front is the Targa, however the side profile looks VERY similar to the Droid Bionic, thicker with rounded edges. Not to mention they were told that it has a rubber feel to the back of the phone.
SO my money is saying this is the new Targa/Bionic Hybrid that will be released next quarter. I am not crazy about the chrome paint job but the Targa/Bionic mix without the Hump is the best of both worlds to me. This is good news!!
Can one phone manufacturer just make a phone with dual core, FfC, at least 768 of ram, HDMI out, 4.3 screen high def, good battery and onerizon and hurry the hell up!
THANKS
Why the hell is it so hard to take a clear photo of an unreleased phone?
It’s like looking at bigfoot pictures.
It would be nice to see more phones compatible with the Atrix Keyboard. The connections are reversed on the Atrix from the DX. I was hoping at some point to plug a DX into the Atrix keyboard and Honeycomb would pop up!
thats exactly what it is… it is a moto droid x body with a fatted cover on the back… only phone i know to be able to handle a dual-core or multi-core and have usb and hdmi on it… and if you look at the top of the device in pic 4 (if you were to be going left to right, top to bottom) it is exactly how the dx is…
Encrypted bootloader. Can’t wait for multi core HTC devices.
Rumors are out that HTC is looking to Boot Load lock as well. Nothing is a guarantee.
HTC as a brand has always been dev friendly, with or without the bootloader locked. Look how the Thunderbolt came with a locked bootloader and it still got full root. Moto has to deal with SBF’s and all that Jazz. All I know is I want a Dual Core 4G beast! Wheter HTC/Moto Winner takes all!
HTC G2= blow up if you hack
I wouldn’t rule out the Targa. Early renders aren’t often very indicative of final shape. Besides, the Targa has the same form factor as DX (big slab, bump for camera).
Besides, you _know_ Moto is eager to leak some Targa teasers given the recent hoopla regarding the Bionic. They need to keep people excited despite their fumbles. What better way than to leak some Targa shots?
The new Motorola Droid 4G….obviously they are coming out with Droid 3 this fall, so this could be the 2012 release of the Motorola Droid 4G because its the 4th one and it will be on 4G network, it just connects easily, and the gap on the white one would be the slide out keyboard. If I’m wrong then its just a Droid X model.

lol, 95% chance both of those statements are wrong
Droid X Global?
We can only hope white = vanilla
Other than that, impossible to gleam much of anything from these photos unfortunately
hopefully this is the stock device moto said they would deliver
Maybe the Droid X SE?
nope
I’d imagine that it’s the Targa. Their probably going to change the design from the render we found now that it will become the Bionic. They we’re probably counting on the Targa coming out later with newer tech that didnt need such a huge battery and now that they have to shoehorn it into Q2 or early Q3 they’re uping the battery
it honestly looks like a beat up droid x
Its the white iPhone
looks like someone put white out around the outside of it hahah
Bet yaa !! But I think the device much resembles to HTC hadnsets
Bottom 2 photo’s look like Droid X2…
I feel like Moto is trying to force us to like the Droid X design.
You make it sound like it’s a bad thing. I mean I’m all for some creativity, but the Droid X is certainly one of the best phones I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning, and one thing that drew me to it was its design.
I like the Droid X design also, but I hate that they are using the exact same design again with Droid X2. Thats just laziness on the design team’s part
true fact
I guess iPhone has a lazy design team as well, only one change so far. I love the DX and it would rock without the bump as well.
Well yes , I dont understand your point in bringing up Apple though…
or to entice X1 owners to upgrade because of compatible accessories?
that hump on the back is ugly tho
I never owned the X but from my experience with it, I don’t like the design. It was too tall. I had a hard time reaching the notification bar while holding it in my hand.
I feel like Moto is trying to force us to like the Droid X design.
Targa/Bionic
Targa. Look at the shape of the back cover compared with the Targa images.
OMG!
The Droid X 3!
We already have pics of that dude, this isn’t it
We have pictures of the Droid X 3? Where?
Sigh…. As much as I like Moto, I just wont buy there products anymore. Everybody knows to 2 reasons. No need for me to repeat it over and over again.
Its just a White/Silver Droid X2.
If there smart, the could start doing what car companies do when testing devices are put out the public. Use a “mule” design to hide the unannounced product design so other companies cannot copy it and when its announced its going to be more a surprise.
It looks like The Droid X and Bionic smashed together.
Droid Bionix
Nice.
haha, I actually like that name
I’m calling it the locked down device that sounds good but cant do a thing with it! AKA a giant tease
I agree until they show a unlock device ii won’t bother thinking about what else they plan on making
micro-USB port you mean? 🙂
i think im still sick over the bionic overhype.. ill be back in the fall to see where things have landed ; )
Droid 3
Droid 3 will most likely be a slider.
I think the device above looks like a slider, but I could be wrong.
it is motorola…they might just keep using the same design…
First
Does the world seem different now?
