Since its launch, the Chromecast dongle from Google has treated users to gorgeous, high-resolution pictures of locations from around the world whenever it wasn’t being used. Through some digging in the Chromecast’s homescreen HTML, a few hints point towards those screens becoming a little less for show, and a bit more like Google Now.
Lines of code feature reference to “Snow, Freezing, Cold, Cool, and Mild” with links to images that have been pulled out for us below. Through some more digging in this source code, references to personal photos were also revealed. If Google announced the ability to draw from your Google+ photo archive or Google Drive for homescreens on your TV, I know a few people who would be a little excited.
However, this whole Chromecast situation is a lot more interesting after we got the leak of Google’s reported upcoming attempt at Android TV.
At this point, the Chromecast homescreen features no mention of anything like this, but the code is already there, just not in use. This hints towards Google having something up its sleeve in the near future – maybe an announcement at this year’s I/O?

Chromecast needs a 2nd release. More powerful processor, larger memory capacity, more codecs supported, and 80211ac support.
Anyone else notice that when you Cast something your t.v. and input don’t automatically switch anymore, are there any settings I’m missing that can restore this function?
Have you changed which HDMI socket that you use? I believe only 1 (out of my 2) can control switching…
No I haven’t it’s been on the same input this entire time
As I am the person who found the code, I’d like to point out – the majority of the code is in the Chromecast-Setup javascript file, suggesting that the functionality already exists but the data is currently empty – I’d posit that all that would be required to enable it would be an update to the Chromecast setup app. Which leads me to believe that it’s being tested at Google with an updated setup app.
twc tv plz
I’ve been trying to find out hot to submit my photos to be display on people’s chromecast, I guess it’s an in house thing for now.
Will it be able to successfully cast a tab from a Mac without the green screen bug?
I hope one day, they come out with a Chromecast 2 with a mic built in that receives commands and functions like google now. You could wake your TV with your voice, get the weather, play music, etc. That would be awesome.
If you want to yell at your TV, I recommend an Xbox One.. . . . If you want voice actions for your chromecast… you’ll want an App that communicates over WIFI
Commands sent to Chromecast via Google Now on your phone would be pretty cool…
like Elaine said I am dazzled that anyone can profit $7942 in a few weeks on the computer . Read Full Report

You can now controll the chromecast with voice via Tasker+AutoVoice+AutoShare+AutoCast including weather with voice output through TV, custom screens etc. A bit triky but you can do it now and not wait till google activate it someday. look at th video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pDCiiX48mq8
Chromecast is slowly approaching its true potential…
Can’t wait…
I’m hoping their Android box will be more useful and include a gaming controller so I can Use everything like my android tablet. Turning your TV into an Android tablet has more functionality and seems more logical.
So what you’re saying is…….. We’ll be seeing chromecast related news with a DL logo in the background?
I kinda like the random pretty pictures, although a Droid-Life news feed would be great.
Android TV seems like a fad. I hope Google don’t axe chromecast, they have a bad history of axxing products…
I think they will keep the Chromecast going. Its insanely popular due to the price
Casting will be included in AndroidTV products, also Roku has a stick that sells alongside its boxes so a precedent has been set for both products to be sold.
