ASUS’ affordable yet premium smartphone, the ZenFone 2, is now available for purchase in the US through Amazon. It technically wasn’t supposed to go live for another couple of hours, but you won’t see us complaining about being able to order a phone with this price and these specs a bit early.
As a quick reminder, ASUS announced US availability this morning, stating that the phone would be available beginning May 19 at retailers like Amazon, B&H Photo, and Newegg. The phone features a 5.5-inch HD display, 1.8GHz/2.3GHz 64-bit quad-core Intel processor, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 2GB/4GB RAM, 3000mAh battery, 16GB/64GB of storage, and connectivity on T-Mobile and AT&T. UPDATE: BUY THE ZENFONE 2 NOW FROM AMAZON!

During a press event that took place this morning in NYC to announce US availability, ASUS said that it would go on sale starting tomorrow for $199 and $299 at retailers like Amazon and Newegg. According to a couple members of the reddit community, the ZenWatch from ASUS is being updated to Android 5.1.1. At this time, the rollout does not appear to be widespread, so if you have yet to see it hit your watch, don’t worry. (more…)
AT&T announced availability of the MeMo Pad 7 LTE from ASUS this morning, hitting the carrier starting April 10. The tablet features a 7-inch HD IPS+ display, 1.3GHz Quad Core Intel Atom processor, as well as front and back-facing PixelMaster cameras. (more…)
Update: Most Android Wear devices, like the G Watch, G Watch R, Gear Live, and ZenWatch all appear to be receiving this update. Not much is standing out in terms of new stuff. If anything, your watch should be more stable.
An Android 5.0.2 update is rolling out now to Moto 360 units as build LWX49L. At least one of our readers has already received the update, which Motorola says updates Google Play Services and adds a “variety of system optimizations and security updates to improve performance stability.” This appears to be a bug fixers rather than a feature-introducer.
To check for the update on your device, head into Settings>About>System updates. (more…)
Update: Deal over.
ASUS’ Padfone line is a concept that I wish saw more success or acceptance in the US. A high-end phone that docks into a tablet shell to make an on-demand tablet? What’s not to like? Unfortunately, late or non-arrivals of the Padfone line have left it all but a lost cause here in the States, even if it did have promise.
With that said, the Padfone X, which is the latest high-end version built specifically for AT&T, can be had today from eBay for $199, which includes the tablet dock. The original product retailed around $549, so calling this a steal is a bit of an understatement. (more…)
ASUS just wrapped up its press conference at CES, with two new phones for us to talk about. To kick it off, the company announced the followup to last year’s Zenfone, appropriately named, the Zenfone 2. The device, in terms of specs, is better in almost every way than what we saw last year, featuring a 5.5″ Full HD IPS display, 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 2.3GHz 64-bit Intel Atom processor with 4GB of RAM. ASUS is up next at the official press day of the 2015 CES. Well, they host their own satellite event, so it may not be an official event, yet it’s somehow included. Anyways, we will be there on hand, but it looks like they are planning to live stream the happenings, just like they did last year.
Will we get new Zenfones? What kind of camera tricks does ASUS have up their sleeves? Will any of it arrive in the US? I guess we will find out soon enough.
The event kicks off at 11AM Pacific (2PM Eastern). Once they post a live stream, we will add it below. (more…)
