DROID2 Global Gingerbread Update Stopped Again, This Time to Fix Exchange Encryption Issue

If you had not received the DROID2 Global Gingerbread update yet (which was rolling out this week), then don’t expect to see it for the next week or so.  The Moto team, along with soak test members, have discovered a Microsoft Exchange encryption issue that needs to be addressed.  According to their forums manager, the issue has been pinpointed, but it will take some time to fix it and then push out again as an update.  Hang in there.

And to those of you that have already received it, I will just assume that a minor update will be issued to you.

Cheers Gasai!

guys moto might bring out terrible updates for their software but if you load a dedicated software such as heXen or cyanogen you might as well do it because all in all they are so much better than stock Droid OS. it may void your warranty but it may also save you that say 500$ you plan on spending on something you might think is better.

I have had off and on battery issues.  When I first got the 2.3.3 update, battery life soared to 32 hours.  After I updated a few programs, battery life struggled to make it 12 hours.  I went through and uninstalled (and in some cases reinstalled) any recent apps I updated.  Was soon back to 32+ hours.  Now, I pick and choose what apps I update.  I also update them one at a time and keep an eye on battery life.  Programs like Facebook and Google Maps have been the recent cause of apps that have sucked the life out of my battery.

Hm. The Moto Forums just went down.

    “Motorola Owners’ Forum
Oops! We apologize, but the community is experiencing a temporary outage or is under temporary maintenance. Thanks for your patience while we get things working. If you need help from Motorola right away:”

Maybe they can fix the erratic backlight behavior while they’re at it, and give us the normal non-ugly lock screen.

  • I want to point out my love for your kind-heartedness in support of visitors who absolutely need assistance with your question. Your special dedication to passing the solution up and down has been quite insightful and have frequently permitted most people like me to arrive at their endeavors. How about fix the battery life..

You 2?  My friend updated his D2 Global after I told him how the battery life on my DX is greatly improved after updating to GB.  Even his sons regular Droid 2 (sans global radio) has gotten the update and is running smoothly while his is just eating up the battery.  Anyone else having issues with their batteries dying quickly on their D2G?

      • Running 4.5.607. On 2.4.330, I had ~14-15 hours max battery life. On 2.4.607, it’s around 29 hours.

I have a normal Droid 2 and am having the same battery problems to the point my phone is half dead in just a few hours.

There should bea recall on these because the standby time they claim will not even happen straight out of the box. 10% of what is advertised is ridiculous!

My D3 has Exchange issues too. have tried the work arounds to no avail. Am using the free test version of Touchdown and it works great. Hoping that the update they are planning fixes this. 2.3.4 Don’t understand how Moto can botch something so critical for people that use their devices for work.

This is definitely another reason why I decided to pass on the Droid Bionic.  Motorola can’t pull off a seamless software update lately.  I guess it is just too much to ask that they test it before releasing it.

I got the update last Sunday…one of the problems i encounter is that if you wake up and have had the D2G on charge all night, if you wake the phone up to check messages while it is still plugged in the charger, the screen times out immediately.

Mine does the same thing, along with restarting after unlocking multiple times each day..

Come on Moto. Open the pocketbooks and hire some quality software guys. Your fly-by-night programmers are killing you.

Can’t argue there. The droid2global that’s now on my second line since I got the Droid3 I updated Tuesday and its laggy moreso than on froyo. I think the problem is that they used 2.3.3 which is known for many flaws in the software. Why they didn’t just use 2.3.4 makes no sense.

      •  Have you received the Droid2 Global Gingerbread update yet? I still have not

        • Fargus_5

          Niether have I. 🙁

What up with Moto and pulling updates lately? Well going for a few months now.  Makes me wonder if I shoould hold on to the Bionic I just purchased for longer than the 14 day return period 😀 If the last round of latest devices are just getting gingerbread I wonder how long it will be for Bionic to get ICS.

  •  Well, at least that explains my inability to pull the update.  Hope its fixed soon.

Matt (Forums Manager): “We anticipate the update to be availabe soon when it is ready…” Thanks Matt. You’re always so insightful and informative. Do you expect the sun to rise tomorrow also? 😛

  • Will those who already got gingerbread on the D2G have to download an update that fixes the problem as well?

    • I’m pretty sure the answer is “yes”.
