DROID3 Update Coming This Month, Soak Test Set to Begin

DROID3  owners have been begging for an update after the device launched to hopefully help fix an odd battery issue and also add in Google Talk with Video.  According to an email that was sent out to a number of our readers, that update will arrive some time this month.  A soak test for members of Motorola’s Feedback Network will be invited to grab the update early (as in the next couple of days) and report back on any serious bugs.  After that, the rest of you will be able to enjoy.

Cheers M and E!

OK so I am new to his D3, but I am not seeing anyone post about an update for the phantom keyboard strokes that wiped out my entire grocery list yesterday. Or the yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy continuining to run on when I text “thank you”. So did I miss this update or is this not a problem for anyone else? Thanks.

I don’t have any of those issues with mine and have not heard of any like that. you might have a lemon one

      • Crissyq

Thanks Shawn. You are very lucky. My daughter has the same problem but she just doesnt used the slide out keyboard at all anymore. Thats her fix. As for myself its the whole reason i bought it was for the physical keyboard. I went searching for answers on DroidLife as well and found over 50 posts on the crazy keyboard issue. i would hate to have to get rid of this phone after only 2 weeks :(

Does anyone elses lockscreen not show up when you are using your phone?

I haven’t had any battery issues but I came over from a D2G which was a battery hog, just hope they fix the camera. I am noticing the phone is starting to get a little sluggish as well. But overall I love this phone, it restored my faith in motorola

How do we unroot so we can receive the update??

I’m just writing to let you understand of the really good experience my wife’s princess experienced visiting your web site. She figured out such a lot of details, which include what it is like to possess an incredible giving nature to let many people clearly know precisely chosen tortuous things. You actually surpassed my expected results. Thank you for presenting those invaluable, dependable, edifying not to mention unique tips about that topic to Janet.

Overall, the D3 is a solid phone.  There are a few nagging issues which I’m sure Moto is working on but once my battery life is improved and the camera gets rid of the blues with flash, I’ll be a happy camper.

I hope we get a fix for the daily reboot problem. It seems to appear on many droid forums that users are experiencing a reboot for no apparent reason.

Mine as well does that all the time. I’d say at least 2 times a day. It can get really annoying and yeah it does happen for absolutely no reason. So hopefully the update fixes that.

hope it fixes the charging led light too

Is there one? That’s one of the I miss the most from my OG

  • Simmeltron

can’t wait… sure would enjoy an official fix to the blue camera too!

  • S.H.I.E.L.D.

Can we also get something done about the 3 second delay on the cam too???

  • Chris Norris

What battery issues? I haven’t noticed anything odd with my D3

Did you just get it today?
Some folks seem to have the battery issue, some don’t. I did originally but lately it’s been better.

Mine has been horrible unless I “bump” charge it.  Even on the extended battery I’m lucky to get 8 hours of use with virtually no activity!  Some who installed the leaked update are raving about the battery life now.

      • Chris Norris

That’s odd. Must definitely be only with some phones. My battery life has been great and I’m still using the stock battery and use it fairly heavily.

Do you keep WiFi on? I do and my battery wass draining superfast. I found the setting to have WiFi sleep when the screen turns off. This setting is off by default. I turned it on and am enjoying very good battery life now.

Yea. gonna have too, but really enjoying having root back.

I’ve really enjoyed my D3 so far, the only thing that confuses me is that despite not ever being in global mode, cell standby always uses the most battery..

The leak fixed the battery drain relating to standby. I imagine this official version will do the same.

        YESSSSS PLEASE

And still the DROID Pro is out in the cold…

  • Myersjesse77

I hope that it fixes the few problems that the d3 is having. Its a really solid phone.

    • hkklife

I really, really, really hope Moto can somehow fix the bluish tint & sluggish camera response issues via software. If so, then I still may go with a D3 over the Bionic as an interim solution.  The D3’s keyboard is just so awesome!

And this is why I didn’t install the leak. Especially with no SBF.
