DROID BIONIC Also Makes Amazon Debut at $149?

Seems a little early for the DROID BIONIC to be making appearances on Amazon since we aren’t expecting it until May/June, but that’s what one of our readers stumbled across late last night.  The price initially popped up at $149 which matches up exactly to the Atrix page we saw last week, only it is long gone now, so we can’t really dig into it for more information.

Obviously the price could change over the next few months and that number could also just be a place-holder, but how does $150 sound if you were to choose the Amazon route?  Sounds like a steal to me.

Cheers Droidaholic!

I started a site to help others find their way around their iPhone and Androids mobile phones. I will try to keep things simple but I intend to stuff the site with all kinds of information and iPhone & Android applications and as I get a better feeling for what you are looking for, than I will adjust the site to match your needs. Hey Kellex,

Can you ask Timotato whether he plans on releasing the documents he claimed said that Apple forced AT&T to not update its Android devices to the newest OS? He claimed this here: http://an.droid-life.com/2011/01/28/well-push-android-phones-says-atts-ceo/ and promised to post the documents as soon as he had them. That was on Friday, it’s Monday now, and still nothing. I mean, he’s had plenty of time to prove he wasn’t just pulling that out of his ass.

but i dont want a locked bootloader……….. im waiting for the inc 2 ftw

  • Jawshua

I would absolutely buy from Amazon for $150! Alas my renew isn’t until next year so I have to wait forever for the new phone goodness….:(.

But by the time I’m up for a new phone the Bionic will already be obsolete, hell it’ll be obsolete by the time I finish writing this comment! Who knows what will be available on 2012. But hopefully I’ll still want the Bionic or the the Thunderbolt, although with Smart Phones, I’ve never not bought Motorola Droid and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna stick with them. Unless… all the phones break net neutrality then I’m using some damn dixie cups and a string.

I’d bet this phone will be over 350 bucks on a 1yr contract…

So how would I go about getting that price when my upgrade comes in september…I’ve never used Amazon to buy a phone.

  • Mr.Joe

You all know that Amazon has it’s own TOS. Like how you can’t take the phone off the number for 6 months. I don’t think anyone here can have an android phone for that long.

ummm…….. motorola showed this off as the droid BIONIC, not the second gen X, besides, in VZ’s registry they have the X2 and the BIONIC as seperate phones

LOL, This is what I would do, On a open weekend take her out to dinner, (Surprise) movie, date night, then on Sunday pull up Droid Life and talk a little about the phone and how excited this new phone is. Then give her a message and pop the question lol

By the time her spidey senses are back to normal, she won’t know what hit her!!! Know your downtown with a discount, at the verizon store :)

Ya know… Maybe there is a reason that I’m not the CEO of a major corporation, but I think that Motorola is REEEEEEALLY dropping the ball on this one. Wouldn’t it make sense for Motorola to want to snag as many potential iPhone customers as possible before those revenues go into the hands of Apple? Let’s face it… the average consumer (not the folks that read this blog) think that the iPhone, whether outdated or not, is THE smartphone to have, so there’s no stopping the soccer moms of America from buying them. But if Motorola were to throw a gnarly device like the Bionic into the mix, maybe, just maybe, they could snag some of the iPhone buyers. This same mentality and philosophy applies to the Thunderbolt as well. The Thunderbolt is more widely accepted on this site, but again, if the BIONIC could snag some of the Thunderbolt sales, wouldn’t that be the smart move? I don’t know about Motorola sometimes…. If I were the CEO of that company, I would most certainly be pouring all of my resources into gettin the BIONIC out in time to trump the sales of both the iPhone and the Thunderbolt. Just my Sunday morning thoughts…. take them with a grain of salt.

I agree, as most readers of this site know the quality and capability of the upcoming Android 4G LTE phones. HTC & Motorola could really make gains in the smartphone market by releasing the devices as early as possible. Shipping the Thunderbolt with limited functionality is a BIG mistake by HTC, IMO.

I would rather get a new device that is perfect later, than a device that is buggy and needs constant updates to make it work sooner. I’m taking Moto and HTC’s stance on this. After antenna-gate, I’m OK with letting the manufacturer do their job in delivering a quality device to the market. Especially since they know that there will always be buyers for said device. If i have to wait for something that’s going to work right out of the box just like it does in every unboxing video, then I’m good with that.

Your Sunday morning thoughts are right in line, several of my wifes friends and husbands came over and I noticed the majority of them held the the iphone (typical San Francisco Bay Area lol) I of courese started in with my Android soap box, and asked the question why iphone over the android. To my surprise the men where more “Raised on the ihpone” and where asking more questions about the Droid/Android phones and where thinking of making that move to Android.

The women view where more of an simplistic purchase and they ALL liked the simple easy to use functionality of the iphone from the COMMERCIALS. The commercials sold the women more than the phone itself. All of the women really understood what the iphone can do and how easy it was to have fun with Apps. When asked about the Droid /Android commercials, ALL of the women thought of Nerdy, Techy, but the biggest thing was Verizon, didn’t show what the difference was between the two phones, meaning no it was like a Star Wars commercial, then the commercial would end. No shots of the DX or D@ really going through the App Market or showing off the OS. Just SCI FI looking commercails.

My wife said the samething until I showed her my rooted D!. I can really see how Verizon does do a great job of sparking interest but I’ve posted on Dl in the past about Verizon should take a page from Apples commercials or better yet Google!!!! The commercial for thier Google Maps in 3D is awesome and Verizon should really look at having Google help them market the Droid phones. I bet there would be a significant increase in sales and understaning the Droid phones immediately. My Sunday morning thoughts :) Maybe I should be a CEO lol

Too true! DROID commercials don’t really show off the OS as much as iPhone commercials. I’ve encountered this same exact response to why people buy iPhones as opposed to Android phones. Another really good point is that the misconception of ALL Android phones and devices being DROID tagged. Trying to explain that to anyone not familiar with the difference is annoying at best. But, alas, I have converted many “soccer mom” types to switching after they see the Android OS in action versus their iOS “smartphone”.

    • Mike

I totally agree. Problem is that Apple probably didn’t want any of the 4G phones to be out on Verizon before the iPhone that way it wouldn’t hurt the sales.

  • NewsWorthy

    I would buy two.

Best online news stand kellex should just make a magazine and make some money out off it. Cause there never is anything cool to download or like it use to be before the droid x this sucks.

  • Agacom24

i have question….i have a droid 2 and i have about 1 year and 4 months left on my contract….I have always wondered what would happen if i bought a phone off of amazon for a cheap price like this, would i just take it into verizon and get it activated? Am i allowed to take another phone in mid-contract and activate this one with no charges? If anyone has ever done something like this please let me know what happens!! Thanks! Cheers!

    • http://twitter.com/il_Sole_Leone Stephen Box

you would have to sign a 2 yr contact to get the phone that cheap from amazon.

      • Agacom24

awesome ok thanks guys! so if i bought a phone off ebay for instance then i could potentially just take it into verizon and activate the newer phone mid contract and deactivate mine right now?

        • http://twitter.com/il_Sole_Leone Stephen Box

          correct

        • Lakerzz

You do have to make sure that the phone is “legit” (not stolen, and that they don’t still owe money on a bill that the phone was connected to.)

        • Dude

I don’t even think you have to take it into a store. I activated my last phone through the VZW website with no problems.

    • Mr Carteratl

      i have w/ no problems.

    • Anonymous

I’m pretty sure that these prices are only with a new two-year agreement. But I could be wrong.

  • Anonymous

    Weekend Update!
Nice price but its 2yrs & I won’t do that again. Plus I’ve never seen a 1yr contract option online anywhere except for VZW itself. While I wouldn’t expect 1yr to be that cheap I would hope it would cheaper then from VZW.

That Dude, was too funny LMAO “Oh Yeaaaahhhhhhh” “Out of the Booooxxxx” Man, that HTC just stole the show, very nice and Fast!!! The screen was off the chain!! Looks like HTC hit a home run with the Thunderbolt. I am normally a Moto fan and own a OGD1 and was waiting for Moto to hit a home run as well. But the Bionic with it’s “Almost There” specs and ugly looking design is a little bit of a let sown. The Atrix (Not on Verizon is a killer device but two let downs for me. First the design (WTF Moto)? Take a look out there, get creative Hint? HTC!!! Second : The Atrix is not on Verizon, BIG LET DOWN. I mean even with it’s uglyness, the specs alone are killer, and I possibly would’ve purchased anyway. The HTC Thunderbolt is looking like a clear winner here folks.

Did the Dude say Quadrant bench marks are showing the Thunderbolt faster than the Bionic?? Anyone take note of that statment?? Would like to see that on DL.

      • http://www.facebook.com/mobrienjr Michael OBrien

I am shocked to say the Atrix is leaps and bounds check out this site….

        http://www.wirefly.com/learn/resources/cell-phone-comparison/motorola-droid-bionic-vs-motorola-atrix-4g-comparison/

big differences…Atrix 4 inch, Bionic 4.3 inch, Atrix 1 gb RAM, Bionic 512 mb RAM…other than they they have the same guts….Just the Atrix is killed because it is on AT&T’s network

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chris-Marsh/100001099991895 Chris Marsh

Correction:Processors Atrix 1.0GHz, BIONIC Duel Core 512MB… So in essence BIONIC is faster.
GPS: aGPS is assisted, while sGPS is Satellite… BIONIC wins again.

          • http://twitter.com/hijackerjack Rohil Thopu

Um… They both are Dual Core… lol.

          • http://www.facebook.com/mobrienjr Michael OBrien

yep, they are both dual cores….the only differences is the amount of RAM, screen size, and AT&T uses aGPS….compared to BIONIC using sGPS.

oh, and the AT&T network….but I am curious what this modified version of MOTOBLUR is?

          • jw

I think you mean 1GHZ not 512MB lol

          • Monk Baker

atrix has 512 unless docked with the other 500 bucks worth of acces… I’ll buy a second notebook… Phones actually dead heat, I like the bionic due to it is VZ

        • Frosted Butts

uGG… So much wrong with that statment. aGPS does not mean it ONLY uses cell towers; it means that it uses them to help get the inital fix. By using cell towers to get a rough estimation, the actual GPS is able to get a lock much faster.

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS

      • Procker320

the bionic is better than the thunderbolt

        • Anonymous

Well, if your talking specs wise yeah, but the Thunderbolt holds it’s own
agianst the the Bionic. I just wish it had 1GB of Ram and a dual core, but
the 1hhz single core of the Thunderbolt does extremely by all accounts
at CES, along with higher Ram makes this a great device. And, you have to
admit it’s, looks BLOWS AWAY the Bionic or Atrix!!! Moto really needs to
take a look at thier device designing, it’s getting uglier and old. Not to
          mention the LOCKEDBOOT LOADER

  • Kdkinc

price is right.. but i’ll never do a two contract again.

Sounds great to me – but the million dollar question remains – what about the bootloader?

    • Anonymous

      It’ll be locked.

      • http://twitter.com/il_Sole_Leone Stephen Box

I find it funny so many people are so upset about the bootloader. The only reason I rooted my OG Droid was so I could move all apps to SD and free up memory since the phone has so little memory. This should not be a problem with the new phones and there are plenty of apps that you can run that don’t require root to customize your phone. I love being rooted but if I have a great phone that I can’t root it won’t be the end of the world.

        • http://twitter.com/il_Sole_Leone Stephen Box

Kellex I don’t mean to suggest you were complaining just in case you took it that way.

    • http://www.facebook.com/steve0mac Steven Cornea

      who cares about the bootloader

most the ROMs for the droid X suck. just end up going back to stock anyway.

even with the OG droid, everyone I know just goes back to stock cause theres nothing good.

It’s obvious this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Saying there’s nothing good about rooting might be the single must idiotic post on this blog (and this includes all the Android haters who like to troll the site).
