gamboo
Hmmmmmm. I will make a deal with you. You tell how to crack the bootloader on my Droid X and I will tell to fix your droid 1 problem. hehe!
Mrpicolas
make sure its checked in display settings in the menu different roms have different things turned off or on by defualt
JCSandifer713
Thanks a lot!!!
Mrpicolas
No problem

I'm going to have to skip this for now. ADB isn't going onto my computer, and while I'm sure it's operator error, I just don't have the guts to keep messing with it right now.
okay me and my friend want to know.... Can you over clock?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? someone please answer
bsteen
No. Without bootloader access you can't change the kernel, so you can't overclock. You can, however, set up underclocking profiles to try to get better battery life, but that's of questionable value.
.. man.... how can you underclock but not overclock?!?!!? this is reallly disappointing... something everyone probably but me knew.. but are the kernels what that bootloader lock protect?
droidaholic
You can overclock, wifi-tether, anything you want to. just not custom roms. why would you root if u couldnt overclock? lol
bsteen
You can't overclock if you can't install a custom kernel and you can't install a custom kernel if the bootloader is locked. That's why simply rooting isn't that big a deal. You need to crack the bootloader to be able to load customs ROMs and custom kernels.
Underclocking is simply taking the stock kernel and throttling it down to run at a slower frequency. As I said, it may save some battery life, but it's of questionable value.
droidaholic
eehhh. you're right. wasnt thinking about the bootloader and kernels. use to a rooted droid where i can do whatever i want to to it. lol
Mrpicolas
its probally pretty possible to overclock since root has been obtained and i believe that the had a kernrl workaround for the milestome that may work with the x well have to wait and see though i believe if you search root in the market, you will find an app called milestone/droid overclock which allows you to overclock
bsteen
Errrr, yup, you're right. The app you're talking about overwrites cpufreq in the stock kernel to overclock the Milestone up to 1.2 Ghz, so that should also be possible with the X. That's why I love this group. Learn something new all the time.
That is amazing! Does that mean you can remove the Bloatware?
I test drive the DX over the weekend and was shocked at the sluggishness compared to my D1/1G/2.2. Isn't the DX an upgraded processor? Is anyone else having weird wireless issues. It got a little better after the Verizon patches, but it was still bad. I think removing the bloatware and of course Froyo will fix most of the problems.
Austin
no clue what your talking about.. my droid x is light years faster than my D1 running 0.4 bb froyo 800mhz clock.. it is crazy really
Justin
For most users, root without unlocking the bootloader is useless. It is a start though...
are you guys going to put up a full Droid X root guide soon??
Jon
Since this phone is FINALLY rooted, it will help boost the sales because I know afew people that didn't want to buy it if they weren't able to root it.
Justin
Woot! Now enable internet streaming through the hdmi out
Tuna
What's the easiest way to delete the Bloatware??? Is there an app that makes this easy??
Well, so much for Moto's attempt at locked bootloaders...
Droidzilla
The bootloader is still locked. Root =/= custom ROMS, overclock, FroYo, etc. Now you can do things like get the wifi tether app and the LEDs hack app. It's cool, but it's really not that big of a deal (from what I can see).
digitalicecream
ok now I'm starting to really want one.
schex93
sorry im new to this ... but if you root you phone does that voids your warranty? can you do anything to reset you phone back so verizon wouldnt know?
Bbo
It "does" in theory but verizon employees won't check so there is nothing to worry about.
