The Samsung Nexus 10 is now the talk of the Android world as we inch closer to Google’s Android event on October 29. We saw Google’s Vic Gundotra post pictures with it to his G+ page this morning, and then a benchmark with specs for the device moments ago. Thanks to a commenter over at Gizmodo, we may have a picture of the device’s “About” screen as well.
While responding to an article that Giz had written, a commenter mentioned that he had held the device and that it looked just like the pictures from the user manual that was posted yesterday. Here is his comment:
I’ve held it. It’s a Samsung 10″ tablet that looks exactly like the user manual that leaked. All plastic, very thin, front firing stereo speakers. Running Jelly Bean, not Key Lime Pie. It’s designed to be held in landscape rather than portrait.
Very fast, but the About screen didn’t have any hardware details. Codename: Manta
After admitting to having held it, he was then mocked by another commenter, which prompted his posting of the picture we attached above as some sort of proof.
As we all know, About screens can be faked in a heartbeat, so take this however you’d like. He did deem it necessary to cover up parts of the build number and kernel version, so there is at least that to add to the story. We can see that the model number is “manta” and the software build name is “mantaray,” two things that were confirmed from the Nexus 10 in the recently posted benchmark. The device is also running JellyBeanMR1, the same version of Android that the LG Nexus 4 has been spotted running in the past.
Last, we should point out the section in the left column under “Apps” that reads “Users.” I don’t know about you, but I’m assuming that means multi-user support is indeed on the way.
Hopefully the hurricane on the east coast allows for Monday’s Android event to happen, because we may be in store for more goodies than initially anticipated.

What’s up with the navigation buttons being in the center? If the device is supposedly optimized for landscape use.
So when you hold it your fingers don’t bump the soft keys. One major problem that the tabs have had.
Oh yay, looks like the honeycomb interface for 10″ is dying in favour of the vastly superior n7 tab layout – note centred navbar buttons.
Why is the menu icons in the middle instead of the left?
oh man… and I was thinking of getting the 32gb Nexus 7 on Monday… wonder how much this will be? What about that GPU, is the Tegra 3 better in the N7?

whats with the tablet UI? are they ditching it completely for the “phablet” UI? this would not be good IMO. I wouldn’t like going to the middle of the screen to hit the home button when the lower left corner is a thumb-length away.
I completely agree! what’s up with that? I just picked up my 10″ Samsung from IO2011 and tried tapping the middle of the bottom bar while holding it normally. You’d have to have fingers like an alien to find that natural.
I was about to post this. I love how the notification and settings section is on the bottom right side of my nexus 7 and virtual keys on are the left side. It makes for really easy usage. I better still be able to do tablet ui when i get 4.2 or i will kill someone. Or install a rom that will do it for me.
Not to mention this moves the notification shade to the top, makes the clock and icons tiny (they’re nice and big on ICS) and takes more vertical space in landscape, something that widescreen tables don’t have much of. It also means you have to reach for the top center of the tablet to slide down the notifications instead of tapping the bottom right …you know, where your thumb is.
