  • Anyone using this with ADW Launcher? I just rooted my Droid and this is the first custom ROM I’ve installed. Everything seemed to be working fine until I restored ADW Launcher. It is taking a very long time for the app icons to show every time I return to the launcher.

  • i tried both pete’s last update, and pe…and after flashing htem the phone worked great…but my google music beta app wouldnt update with the newest albums i added…i flashed back to stock rooted froyo and it updated.

  • Bugless Beast 6.2.1 works fast and runs lower temps than the GPA series of roms. Right now CPU 86F / battery 89F. Love the new kernels 0.3 SV 1.2gHz. Whatever ROM, it’s good to wipe/clean 3X preinstall, and to keep fixing permissions – I use Rom Manager for this. Tempted to do a Nanrroid backup and instal the latest GPA to check it out.

    BTW – Droid 1 screen is better than Bionic as it doesn’t have the HD pixilation. Netflix movoies on the Droid are super sharp. As are phoeos and videos. Need to get under the hood and tweak away….. Thanks Pete!!!

  • i downloaded gpa16 but now the computer wont recognize the sd card. i cant see files. usb debugging is off tried on another computer and different usb cord same problem. when i go to usb tethering on phone it says usb not connected. please help

  • I had to pull my og out of the box to try this out. Very smooth! Almost makes me want to re-activate it for a few days, but I’d miss 4G too much.

    •  Mine hasn’t booted so far. I let it sit at the Motorola logo for over 10 minutes. I’ve tried removing the battery and powering on with and without the SD card (just a test). Still no go 🙁

  • I got this installed this morning. Faster, over all, and definitely better RAM management, which has been the curse of the OG for awhile, now. Seems different people get different results, but the 2.3.5 beta plus 1.1Ghz IV kernal are showing great battery (80% after 9 hours at work where my phone idles) and the response is head and shoulders above GPA16.

  • I’ve tried Pete’s roms but they’re just so vanilla. Very much stock roms. I do love the fact the Droid is getting so much love from the devs still. Makes the wait for whatever new superphone bearable. If the darned Droid wasn’t so memory limited,I’d consider keeping it! I’m using MIUI presently and just yesterday dl’d the V6 Supercharger memory script from XDA site and man the phone has really become more responsive! It seriously does help! Now I can wait till whatever. With the Bionic constantly being pushed back, and probably having a locked bootloader,I’ll be waiting for the SGS2 or the next unlocked superphone.

  • So let me get this straight…if my friend is on Froyo and I drop this on the sd card, boot into CWM Recovery and then run this, it should be good?  Or is is absolutely necessary to wipe all?

  • This may be a dumb question, but I asked last time Pete had a release for the OG and didn’t get an answer, does this image include root access?

  • It looked like everything was installing correctly but after the Moto logo it’s just been alternating between the Droid logo and red eye. Any ideas?

    • You are in a bootloop. Boot to CWM and do a factory data reset. This should fix you up.

  • Pete is great and BB is what made me fall in love with rooting and trying out custom roms.  My Droid is still snappy and useful – 4G will be the main driver for me to change along with the crap keyboard that moto put on it.  HOWEVER…  I have tried dozens of roms and ALWAYS revert back to PE4.2.  Nothing IMHO is anything near it in terms of stability, performance, and battery life.  These GPA Roms are fun to play with, but tend to be quirky and sluggish in my experience.  Kudos to Pete for putting them out there, I just think this post could have used a disclaimer – this will probably not be a great fulltime production Rom.

    • I never tried PE4.2, but PE6.5 is magnificent. Unfortunately I’ve had the same experience with Pete’s ROMs that you have – a few too many slowdowns and quirks for me, especially since I use my phone for work. (This isn’t to knock his kernels, which I used for ages with great success, nor his dedication in keeping the codebase up to date for the OG.)

  • so i know the droid eye usually persists for a long time on the first boot, but mine’s been here for a LONG time. and it keeps going back to the DROID logo turning into the red eye, cycling the animation several times…

    am i fucked?

  • Everytime I try a new GB rom,  (PE 6.5 being the latest) I end up reverting to Sapphire after a few days.  I bet this one still hasn’t fixed the Bluetooth Lady either.

  • im not running a rom right now, just a rooted droid. i did a backup, and installed this through rom manager. when it was done installing, it would stay on the droid boot logo, and not go away. i had to go back into recovery and go back to my backup. an anybody explain what im doing wrong??? do i need to wipe data or something???

  • I still don’t understand why people think Pete’s so great. The only reason he gets his updates out so quickly is because he doesn’t do much of anything to the AOSP code. CM may not run quite as well (and is still on 2.3.4), but there are tons of extra features that I simply couldn’t live without. 

    • Stephen, little do you know that I have been working my tail off all day just so you can enjoy an update early. I get my “updates out so quickly” because I am a hard worker. I appreciate your concern though…

      • if i were to run a rom…yours would be my first and only choice…as it stands right now, my phone runs best with stock rooted froyo…but i always give your roms a shot…i like your work, especially on your AOSP roms…

      • Maybe you could work hard on fixing the loss of data after making a call bug. The last 3 releases have all claimed to fix it. I’m amazed people even install GB roms at this point. GB + Droid = useless phone. I guess people just surf porn and never talk to anyone.

    • I use both, and it is had work either way, BTW next CM will be 2.3.5 aas well, but really was no need for posting that the way you did it.

    • Whoa man.  How about a little respect.  I don’t see Pete giving you a hard time about all the great stuff you’ve done for us.

    • Source code isn’t magic, and it isn’t automatic. Compiling code for the Droid is a bitch in itself, let alone all of the fixes Pete has to do so that Gingerbread will actually function on the Droid. In reality — and I say this with no disrespect — adding features is the easy part. Making all the code work for the Droid is where all the delays come from.

    • The point of GPA rom’s is that its basically stock. He is great at what he does, making the latest updates work on the OG Droid.

  • How does rooting and installing this affect the amount of memory used? I’m running low on free memory on my Droid and wonder if the added programs will wind up using much more memory, or if the new google apps replace old ones.

    • All the system apps are replaced when you flash a ROM. If I understand this correctly, I am assuming you have a stock droid (with froyo). Correct? If that is the case, this ROM with be MUCH BETTER, and run much smoother and faster than your stock froyo, and will free up a bit of memory.

      • Yes, stock Droid with Froyo. From what I’m reading here and after searching around, it sounds like I won’t have to waste memory with both the original apps and with the updates downloaded from Market, plus other memory advantages from doing this.

  • I have had a Droid 3, Droid X, HTC Thunderbolt, and Samsung Charge.

    For some reason I just want the OG Droid. 
    It just seems like hackers paradise. 

    If MOTO unlocks the D3, I can’t wait to see what an unlocked phone feels like.

    • home>menu>settings>accounts> then toggle sync and re-open music, it should ask you to select your account and proceed to sync all of your music :] (OG ROX)

      • Thank u very much. That is all I needed to do, and I started to think it was my pe rom that wasn’t letting it update.

  • I had a problem when receiving calls in all gpa builds. Call comes in and then the vibrate is stuck and have to pull battery. Anybody know if this happens in this build or how to fix this? Also can you imagine if Pete worked for HTC thunderbolt would be less suck (work phone).

    • Same problem! Hasn’t happened for me since the latest Project Elite, so I’m afraid to jump back to a GPA build.

      • the opposite happen to me.. i went from GPA to PE and i couldnt make calls.. or i could but couldnt hear anything.. i tried flashing back to GPA and still nothing, the only way i got audio back was to actually revert to the backup i had made. 

    • I had the very same problem with my OG Droid. Frustration from the inability to receive basic phone calls drove me to revert back to rooted stock Froyo. Pete’s work was fantastic, though this issue was a show stopper for me. Frankly, I don’t think my particular unit handles the low voltage (and even many of the standard voltage) overclocked kernels. I would also experience camera issues with these kernels. I have good stability with the stock Froyo kernel overclocked to 800MHz, but miss the fun of custom ROMs.

    • Make sure that you have the latest radio (baseband) —  I think it should be C_01.43.01P. Also, try a different kernel. If those don’t work, flash the ROM again and wipe data and cache, then when the phone comes back on, do a full reboot (turn off from power button). One, or a combination, of these things should fix the call issue.

  • I’ll probably pass.  His last didn’t like my OG at all.  I’m so close to flashing back to Froyo because my poor droid hates GB but PE6.5 is doing ok so far… Fingers crossed.  But then Pete’s never been on my Droid longer than a few minutes before serious bugs and reboots start up.

    • I just went back to froyo.. i’m so glad i did.  the stability is incredible.  i can wait 76 more days until i can upgrade to bask in the GB goodness.

    • The first batch of Droids were a little hit and miss, so if you have one of them, it will be a little bit more unstable then the rest (this was admitted by Moto insiders). Make sure you try a higher GHz kernel first, before going back to Froyo. The devs do their best, but Gingerbread was really never meant to run on 550MHz.

    • PE 6.5 is probably the most stable GB I’ve tried, but it still has a few issues.  If Bluetooth headset is connected my phone freaks out if I try to answer incoming on the phone instead of the headset.   I get random browser crashes and background music apps like Audiogalaxy occassionally crash back to desktop.   And then there’s the AWOL Bluetooth Lady.   Sapphire has none of those issues on my Droid.

      • sapphire also wasnt a GB build…cvcps quit making his own roms and joined the CM team…

      • PE 6.5 has been the best ROM I’ve used, almost no issues.  I was a GPA fan and still have a huge amount of respect for Peter, but there’s no way I’m going back.  On my OG, PE 6.5 is faster, smoother and has better battery life than any GPA build.  

    • And I’m experiencing just the opposite. I had PE6.5 on my phone for a couple days and then started having all kinds of heat issues and restarts to the point where my phone was unusable. I went back to GPA16 and my OG is working great! I’m definitely on Pete’s bandwagon!

      • not to take anything away from Pete, who is great.  But PE is worked over and tweaked much more, and has far more features.  This 2.3.5 ROM I assume is going to be basically stock, ported to D1.

        • Well, just wait for Pete to drop some BUGLESS BEAST. Then see if project elite still has more features =P

    • I like it better.  Like the vanilla feel, and it runs really fast.  But some might not think it is as pretty 🙂

    • I moved from 710RC1 to GPA16.  Never thought about moving back.  CM701 is a memory hog.  GPA16 is FAST and lots of memory left over for running apps efficiently.  If you’re rockin’ the OG, GPA16 or Project Elite 6.5 is the way to go. 

    • I never really was a fan of CM7 on my OG. It was too resource intensive. Never tried Pete’s ROMs but always heard good things. Project Elite was always great though. I also liked Simply Stunning.

  • Way to go Pete.  Makes waiting for the Galaxy S II almost enjoyable.  Almost.

  • Any idea if this GB version drops data after a call as with any other GB rom for the OG Droid?

      • Hey Pete. I’m still getting the same issue unfortunately. Is there anything I can do or should I update to the new beta build?

        I’ve been running GPA16 for a bit and switched to PE6.5 to test out. No call volumes after 2 wipes and reflashes multiple reboots didn’t fix the issue so I went back to GPA16. Only issue is losing 3g after a call.

        Thanks for any help. GPA16 is the smoothest my phone has run in a long while.

      • Like Zero said, all calls auto silent. Hope the issue gets fixed, but going to GPA16 in the mean time.

  • Peter Alfonso has made sporting my OG droid all the more bearable with constant updates… +1 to him!
